Background / History

Yu Xiaogang served as Tang San's teacher from the latter's time at Nuoding Academy. He shared his Spirit Ring theories with Tang San and accompanied him into the Soul Hunting Forest to seek Tang San's second Spirit Ring 26.

During the Gale Demon Wolf rampage in the forest, Xiaogang attempted to buy Tang San time to escape. He used his spirit skill, Fart Like Thunder, but was captured by the wolves; Tang Hao later saved him in secret, while Tang San carried the unconscious Xiaogang from the forest and tended to him 27 28.

After the incident, his Martial Soul transformed into a weaker Pig Beast, changing his body and appearance. He became obese, carried a persistent fecal odor, and was increasingly shunned by others, including the Nuoding Academy community 51 99. His altered Martial Soul also destroyed the resonance necessary for his former three-person Martial Soul Fusion Skill with Flender and Liu Erlong 99.

Xiaogang recommended that Tang San attend Shrek Academy, believing Tang San's success could restore his own damaged reputation. He later taught at Shrek and attempted to recruit Ning Rongrong, who rejected him 51 57.

At the Great Soul Arena, he displayed a Martial Soul Hall Elder Token and attempted to use its authority to force Xiao Wu to kneel and apologize to Tang San. Bishop Victor declared the token invalid without Bibi Dong's acknowledgement and had Xiaogang arrested despite his claim that Yu Yuanzhen was his father 62 63.

Following Shrek's expulsion from Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Xiaogang reluctantly reunited with Liu Erlong at Blue Tyrant Academy. She initially failed to recognize him because of his changed body and Martial Soul, and because she could no longer sense Martial Soul resonance with him 99.

He later sought an audience with Bibi Dong, convinced she still had feelings for him. She rejected this belief, struck him for addressing her informally, and had him removed from the Pope Palace 153 154.

Tang San eventually entrusted Tang Sect headquarters to Xiaogang. Emperor Xue Qinghe appointed him State Preceptor of Heaven Dou, and Xiaogang disclosed Tang San's potential to inherit godhood to the Emperor 162. He embraced his new status, moved into Tang Sect headquarters with servants and gifts received from officials, and imagined using Tang San's future success to avenge his past humiliations 171.

Xiaogang later failed to obtain a stone Tang San wanted from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Sect. He was driven from the sect after insisting that it possessed the item 222. During Tang San's eighth God Trial, Yu Xiaode killed Xiaogang before Tang San could use him as the trial's target 222.

After the transformation of his Martial Soul, Xiaogang's appearance changed drastically enough that Liu Erlong did not recognize him at first sight 99.

Xiaogang was deeply invested in Tang San, treating his sole disciple like a son and repeatedly acting to protect or assist him 27 30 130. However, this attachment was bound to his desire to reclaim his reputation through Tang San's accomplishments; he regarded Tang San as his route to redemption and influence 51 61.

He was proud, self-important, and frequently unaware of how others perceived him. He attempted to flaunt the Elder Token at the Great Soul Arena, believed Bibi Dong still loved him despite her hostility, and grew increasingly arrogant after becoming State Preceptor 62 153 171. He also held grudges against those who humiliated him, particularly Bibi Dong and Martial Soul Hall 171.
