Proxima Centauri System, aboard the Twin Stars' Attack Fleet Flagship.
"How many forces have we deployed?" Gustav asked.
"Reporting, Commander. A total of sixty thousand drones so far!" the adjutant replied.
"Mm! Has any news come back from the battlefield?" he continued.
"My apologies, Commander. The wormhole exit is still under enemy fire. Our reconnaissance aircraft are destroyed the moment they emerge, so we have been unable to obtain reliable battlefield intelligence!"
"Damn it. Communications really are a major problem!" Gustav sighed.
Whether it was the Twin Stars' quantum communication or Nie Yun's mechanical insect communication, as long as reconnaissance equipment was deployed on the battlefield, real-time monitoring was possible even over distances of millions of kilometers!
The effect of distance on delays in battlefield intelligence had been reduced to a minimum, but that did not include wormholes connecting vast stretches of space!
On a chaotic battlefield, especially when the wormhole exit was suppressed by enemy fire, the Twin Stars had few good ways to send intelligence from the Solar System back to the rear, other than throwing in large numbers of reconnaissance aircraft and hoping for the best.
Previously, the Twin Stars had been able to obtain a little battlefield intelligence through wired communications because large warships were up front taking the fire, providing a measure of safety at the wormhole exit.
Under the current circumstances, however, that method of communication was completely unworkable.
There was no concept of space inside a wormhole. In other words, the distance between its entrance and exit was zero, which made wired communications possible.
But although wired communications could solve the problem of communicating between the two sides of a wormhole, they had serious flaws.
First, the wormhole's complex, shifting rules of spacetime did not allow matter to remain inside the passage for
