Clearly, with Schicksal's current technology, they could have used divine machines for this kind of work. Yet these people at Schicksal insisted on following tradition, sending Valkyries who were only B-rank at best to fight powerful Honkai Beasts.
To Mo Wang, it really looked like they were treating these people as cannon fodder.
This world wasn't a game, after all.
With their current equipment, ordinary B-rank Valkyries were already at their limit when dealing with Chariot-class Honkai Beasts.
C-rank Valkyries could only serve as logistical support personnel.
Yet Schicksal insisted on sending them to the front lines. If that wasn't using them as cannon fodder, what was?
If this had been Anti-Entropy, they probably would have sent a whole pack of Titans to gang up on the Honkai Beasts already.
Fully unmanned, sturdy, practical, and durable!
Weren't they far more useful than Valkyries?
Of course, that wasn't to say the Valkyrie system was bad.
Valkyries were simply better suited to an elite approach—investigations, difficult high-level bosses, special missions, and so on.
For invasion-style battles against Honkai Beasts like this, robots were more useful no matter how one looked at it.
But unfortunately, a certain cuckolded Bishop was obsessed with reviving his White Moonlight and simply didn't care whether the Valkyries lived or died.
Theresa had to act cute and beg just to get even the tiniest bit of resources.
A guy ten thousand times worse than a capitalist—it was no wonder he got cheated on.
After viciously cursing that blond Bishop in his heart, Mo Wang went back to playing his game.
Fortunately, Himeko and Fu Hua were on this mission, so the Valkyries' safety probably wouldn't be an issue.
Besides, even if he worried now, there was nothing he could do.
Who told him he had no command authority at all?
In everyone else's eyes, he was just there to take the blame.
Just as Mo Wang opened a bottle of soda and took a big, satisfied gulp, a voice from beside him made him spray it straight out.
"Bad news! A large number of energy signatures have suddenly appeared near Canghai City! They've been identified as—Anti-Entropy Titan-model mechs!"
"What did you say?"
Mo Wang slammed his hand on the table and shot to his feet, not even bothering with the soda spilled all over himself.
"What the hell? Is Anti-Entropy planning to start a war outright?"
Daily Failure Log, Day Five: The big shots have already started testing the waters, while this failure hasn't even earned the right to test the waters.
It really made one sigh. The joys and sorrows between people truly were never the same.
Chapter 11: Oh No! The Captain Jumped Down!
"What? What did you just say? A large number of Titans have appeared in Canghai City?"
When Mo Wang heard the news, his first reaction was that Bird's Nest Hair and Lobster had gone crazy. Either they had gotten too immersed in their act, or they regretted handing their life's work over to the Far East Branch.
They had actually sent a huge group of Titans here to cause trouble.
But Mo Wang quickly threw that thought out of his mind.
Those two Doctors had no time for this right now.
The old guard of Anti-Entropy they belonged to was being driven nearly into a corner by Cocolia's faction.
"So these Titans were called in by that woman, Cocolia?"
At that thought, Mo Wang's face immediately fell.
If there was anyone in this world he genuinely hated from the bottom of his heart, Cocolia would definitely be on the list.
Cocolia was a wicked woman who could practically be called the greatest troublemaker in Honkai history.
Compared to her, Otto looked like a saint, Elysia seemed adorable, and even Vita was just a little girl who liked playing pranks.
If the Cocolia from the neighboring Honkai: Star Rail could at least be somewhat excused by the Stellaron's corruption, while also being portrayed as a good mother, then this one from Honkai Impact 3rd was nothing but a deranged, anti-human lunatic.
Of course, it couldn't be denied that the woman had ambition and ability.
As a newcomer in Anti-Entropy, she had forcibly stood toe-to-toe against the two Doctors and even driven them into exile. That was not something an ordinary person could accomplish.
Though that was also because Old Yang was truly terrible at management, which had ultimately led to this outcome.
"Wait, wasn't this supposed to be the plot of Chapter One?" Mo Wang truly couldn't understand what had gone wrong in the head of that troublemaking woman.
If a few female students died, Theresa would probably fight her to the death.
"Where have those Titans reached now? Report immediately."
Mo Wang stopped slacking off and immediately began questioning everyone aboard the ship.
"The Titan force has successfully landed along the coastline and is currently splitting up. The Titan units are advancing toward our five squads!"
The Valkyrie compiling the intelligence was startled by Mo Wang suddenly rushing over, and instinctively reported all the information at once.
No one understood why the king of slacking from moments ago suddenly seemed like a completely different person. The air he gave off was like that of a real Captain...
"Split into five groups? What are the exact numbers?"
Mo Wang immediately asked the Valkyries before him.
"Um... at the moment, there doesn't seem to be any major difference in the numbers of each group. It looks like every group has the same number of enemies."
"So that's how it is..."
The instant Mo Wang heard the intelligence, he guessed what Cocolia was plotting.
To Cocolia, the only one she could call a target was Mei, the Third Herrscher.
After all, that woman dreamed of getting her hands on a Herrscher Core. She had probably learned of The Doctor's little scheme from somewhere and intended to fish in troubled waters by taking this opportunity to capture Mei.
As for splitting her forces, it was merely to confuse and pin down St. Freya.
The current problem was that the Valkyries in the various squads had no way of dealing with the incoming Titans.
And with St. Freya already short on top-tier combat power, even if they knew Kiana was in danger, they most likely wouldn't be able to send reinforcements.
"Notify every squad and Himeko immediately. Have them gather at the Fifth Squad at top speed!"
Mo Wang swiftly issued orders to the Valkyries around him.
"No, our signal source is being jammed. We can't contact Major Himeko and the others for the time being."
Several Valkyries hurriedly operated the communications equipment, but no matter how they tried to connect, only static came through from the other end.
"The First and Second Squads have engaged the Titans! They are currently under fierce attack!"
"The Third and Fourth Squads are under artillery bombardment! Communications have been completely cut off!"
"The Fifth Squad is under attack as well!"
Mo Wang sucked in a sharp breath aboard the ship.
Fuck, Cocolia's move was truly vicious.
First she cut off their communications, then she launched separate surprise attacks. With this setup, they couldn't provide support even if they wanted to.
"What do we do now? Should we contact the Principal?"
Faced with this situation, the Valkyries aboard the ship began to panic.
After all, most of the Valkyries on the ship were merely students who had yet to graduate.
For some of them, this was even their first official mission.
Without Himeko's command, everyone was flustered and at a loss, having completely forgotten what they had learned in class.
"Everyone, calm down. Things haven't gotten that bad yet." Faced with the situation, Mo Wang instead became calm.
He turned his gaze toward an older-looking Valkyrie nearby.
She had once been Himeko's adjutant and was also one of the few Valkyries aboard the ship with a military rank.
Compared to the panicked students, she appeared exceptionally composed.
"Second Lieutenant Meng Ya, I am delegating all command duties to you from this point on. Organize personnel to restore communications between the squads as quickly as possible. Also, report the current situation to the Principal!"
Upon hearing Mo Wang's words, Second Lieutenant Meng Ya immediately frowned.
"Wait, Captain. The situation is still unclear. What are you planning to do? What we should be doing right now is figuring out how to deal with those incoming Honkai Beasts..." Second Lieutenant Meng Ya could no longer understand what the man before her was thinking. At a time like this, was he still thinking of slacking off?
"I'll deal with them!" Mo Wang cut her off.
"At this point, we can't just sit here and command the battle. Those Valkyries are all under my command. I have to bring every one of them back."
Mo Wang looked straight at her, his eyes devoid of any confusion or hesitation.
"But without Major Himeko's orders..."
"Forget Himeko!" Mo Wang interrupted her again. "Right now, I'm the Captain of the Hyperion! Don't give me that crap. I know that in your eyes, I'm just some guy brought in to take the blame and do the dirty work. Even if the Bishop and the Principal remove me afterward, so be it! But remember this: right now! Here! I'm the one in charge!"
Second Lieutenant Meng Ya was startled by the look in Mo Wang's eyes and ultimately found herself unable to say anything.
Indeed, Mo Wang was right. Everyone thought he had only become Captain of the Hyperion through sheer luck.
But no matter what others thought, Mo Wang truly was the highest-ranking commander of this warship right now.
Even Himeko was, in fact, subordinate to Mo Wang.
"Carry out the orders. I'll bring them all back safely." Mo Wang turned around and shouted loudly, "Ai-chan, open the hatch for me!"
"Yes, Boss!" As Ai-chan's adorable voice came from the ship's speakers, Mo Wang suddenly accelerated and vanished from everyone's sight.
"Wait!" Watching Mo Wang run off just like that, Second Lieutenant Meng Ya felt a headache coming on.
What was this? Were all the Captains of the Hyperion such reckless hotheads?
"Hurry and check what the Captain is doing! Where has he run off to now?!"
The lieutenant hurriedly questioned the Valkyries around her.
Mo Wang had run far too fast just now, leaving her no time to stop him.
"Captain—he's already reached the hatch!" The Valkyrie being questioned hurriedly checked Mo Wang's location.
"What is he going there for?" The lieutenant's mind went blank as she asked instinctively.
"No, this is bad! The Captain jumped straight down! He—he didn't even bring a parachute!"
At those words, the lieutenant staggered back two steps.
His mind went blank in an instant.
What was going on? Had their Captain snapped under too much pressure and jumped?
The new Captain had only been in office for two days. Were they already going to have to replace him again?
A Captain Fell from the Sky
Three thousand meters above Canghai City, Mo Wang stood before Hyperion's open hatch.
Gusts of wind continually whipped across his face.
"I never thought getting transported to another world would cure my fear of heights. I just hope the next thing it cures is my motion sickness."
Mo Wang looked down at the tiny city below and licked his dry lips.
Not only did he feel no fear, he was actually a little excited.
"Boss, are you really going to jump from here? I think you should consider some other method. We're not in that much of a hurry, are we?" Ai-chan floated beside Mo Wang, unable to stop herself from trying to persuade him. "Even if you really want to jump, shouldn't you at least bring a parachute or something?"
Ai-chan was a little scared now.
Even Valkyries needed equipment when they jumped. If he went without even a parachute, wouldn't he turn into a little meat pancake the moment he hit the ground?
"That's why you still don't understand a man's romance, Ai-chan." Mo Wang shook a finger at her.
"A real man jumps without bringing anything at all. That's what romance is!"
"I don't understand a single word you're saying! Why does this have anything to do with a man's romance?!"
"Oh, Ai-chan, you really don't understand humanity. Looking cool is a lifelong pursuit! You think a little height is enough to scare me? Don't underestimate me!"
"I think you need to get your head checked!" Ai-chan was already furious. Had this guy's brain broken from too much pressure?
"Alright, Ai-chan. I'm leaving Hyperion to you now. It's time for The Hunt to begin." Mo Wang gave Ai-chan a thumbs-up.
