Background / History

Shuji was recognized throughout the Hyūga Clan as its most outstanding young genius. Before entering the Ninja Academy, he won two consecutive internal competitions and established his rivalry with Hiashi by defeating him with a deliberately exposed opening and a handful of dirt. His unusual foundation came from an inherited Nen Master lineage, while his mature spiritual energy was attributed to having lived two lives. 4 10 11

At age five, Shuji awakened the Byakugan, earning substantial clan support and attention. Rather than limiting himself to the Gentle Fist, he pursued other disciplines, including medical ninjutsu, chakra control, Superhuman Strength, sealing techniques, and high-speed movement. 2 8 11 13

Might Duy accidentally injured Shuji severely enough to hospitalize him for more than two months. Shuji ultimately chose not to have Duy imprisoned, instead requiring him to teach the Eight Inner Gates as compensation. 3 5 17
