Hermione slammed a hefty old leisure book onto the table, flipping through the pages rapidly while muttering under her breath:

"Nicolas Flamel is the only known maker of the Sorcerer's Stone!"

"It's a miraculous substance with astonishing powers—the Stone can turn any metal into pure gold and produce the Elixir of Life, which grants immortality to whoever drinks it."

The three of them thought back to the corridor on the fourth floor to the right—the dangerous room guarded by the Three-Headed Dog.

"That big dog must be guarding Flamel's Sorcerer's Stone!"

"A stone that can turn things into gold and make you immortal!" Harry said. "No wonder Snape's after it too! Anyone would want it!"

"No wonder we couldn't find Flamel in Modern Magical History," Ron said. "Since he's already six hundred and sixty-five years old, he doesn't exactly count as modern, does he?"

The three felt they had uncovered the truth.

But then they froze again—so the whole thing was that Snape coveted the Sorcerer's Stone and got himself injured by the Three-Headed Dog guarding it?

What about Professor Quirrell, then? Why did he go after Harry?

They understood everything, yet seemed to have fallen into a new mystery.

The Quidditch match was drawing closer, and Harry's nerves grew more frayed by the day.

Gryffindor's House Cup score had already dropped to fourth place, but that didn't really matter—Quidditch match points converted to House Cup points on a one-to-one basis.

In other words, as long as he caught the Golden Snitch this time, he could directly win back the 150 points Damon had lost!

Professor McGonagall adjusted her glasses, her expression stern as she looked at the manuscript Damon had given her—ever since Damon had publicly struck Malfoy, she had treated him with nothing but official formality.

Though her fondness for Damon hadn't diminished one bit, the more she cared, the more determined she was to be strict with him.

Damon smiled, as if brimming with confidence in what he'd submitted. He sat down in a chair without waiting, using the Levitation Charm to pour himself tea and grab some biscuits.

Professor McGonagall couldn't help pursing her lips and shooting him a glance before picking up the paper—she resolved that if this manuscript was just a perfect homework assignment, she would not tolerate Damon's flippant attitude.

But the moment she opened the first page and saw the title, she froze.
