Background / History

Tang San was born to Tang Hao and Ah Yin. He witnessed material showing Ah Yin sacrifice herself to create a blood-red barrier so Tang Hao could escape with him; a strange soul then entered Tang San’s body and revived him. Tang Hao subsequently became a Title Douluo while fleeing with Tang San. 21

His childhood under Tang Hao was harsh. When Blue Silver Grass was revealed at his awakening, Tang Hao refused to let him attend Notting Academy and expected him to remain in the village cooking for him. Tang Hao’s attitude changed immediately after Tang San disclosed his second martial soul, the Clear Sky Hammer. 58

At Notting Academy, Tang San killed a gatekeeper with a Silent Sleeve Arrow before Yu Xiaogang intervened. Yu deduced that he possessed Twin Martial Souls, and Tang San accepted him as master after kneeling and kowtowing three times. 60 He later met Xiao Wu, becoming her roommate after they initially sparred. 61

Watching comparisons between his own development and Qian Renchuan’s caused Tang San to reassess both Tang Hao and Yu Xiaogang. He came to believe that Tang Hao was responsible for Ah Yin’s death and had neglected him, while Yu’s cultivation guidance had squandered the potential of Blue Silver Grass. 57 64 65

After future revelations showed him destroying Martial Soul Hall, Tang San rejected that fate and vowed to protect it instead. 136 He chose to seek the Slaughter God’s Domain at Slaughter City rather than hide in the Star Dou Great Forest with Xiao Wu, intending to form an Evil Soul Master organization against the continent’s hypocritical elite. 150

Tang San was captured at Hell Town by the Rakshasa Cult’s Blood Vulture and brought before Bibi Dong with his soul power sealed. He attempted to persuade her that they shared an aim of imposing order through darkness, while openly declaring his hatred for Tang Hao. 179 180

During the continental unification campaign, Tang San left Bibi Dong’s side to meet Qian Xunji. He publicly repudiated Tang Hao, then bowed to Qian Xunji, who accepted him as a foster son and as brother to Qian Renchuan, Bai Xue, and Hei Xue. 232 233 234
