Background / History

The Uchiha were one of Konoha's founding-era clans and formerly its premier clan. Their historical conflict with the Senju continued to shape their standing after the village's founding; while the Senju name disappeared from public life, a Senju-aligned faction retained political influence in Konoha. 113 147

The clan's relationship with successive Hokage differed sharply. Hashirama's overwhelming strength won the Uchiha's submission, while Tobirama restrained and employed the clan through rules, anti-Uchiha techniques, and the Military Police Force. Under Hiruzen, the clan believed it had been gradually marginalized, with its numbers declining as the Sarutobi clan expanded. 7 147

Following the Nine-Tails incident, Konoha proposed moving the Uchiha compound to the southeast edge of the village. The clan overwhelmingly opposed the relocation, which was viewed as an attempt to isolate them politically and physically. 3 4 5

Uchiha Chen later challenged Fugaku's leadership and became clan head through a show of superior strength and support from the clansmen. He condemned the clan's factionalism, assumed command of the Police Force, and began expanding its authority and internal structure. 41 45 48

By the period after the Third Great Ninja War and subsequent conflicts, the clan had grown to 35 jōnin, with three further promotion candidates. Together, the Uchiha and Hyuga accounted for more than 60 of Konoha's jōnin. 113
