Background

Tang Ya was the leader of the declining Tang Sect, whose remaining members included herself and Beibei. Though proud of the sect’s legacy and eager to restore it, she struggled with the limitations of her Dark Blue Silver Grass martial soul and envied exceptional talent. When she encountered Huo Yuhao in the Star Dou Great Forest, his abilities convinced her that he could become the Tang Sect’s long-awaited successor. She recruited him by offering Tang Sect techniques and a Shrek Academy exemption quota. 7 8 11

She instructed Huo Yuhao in the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record, Mysterious Heaven Skill, and Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, and accompanied him to a Tang Sect-affiliated blacksmith to commission training weights, shuriken, and kunai. 8 11 15

The destruction of her family and the Tang Sect by the Iron Blood Sect remained the source of her grief and resentment. Huo Yuhao exploited those feelings by drawing parallels between his claimed family history and the Tang Sect’s decline, causing Tang Ya to question Shrek Academy’s refusal to intervene during her family’s crisis. 15 16

After confronting Beibei about Shrek’s inaction, Tang Ya was captured by Huo Yuhao under his Tiger Mask identity and taken to the Kamui Dimension. There, Huo Yuhao used genjutsu, simulated divine pressure, and fabricated revelations under the identity of “Tang Chen” to break her faith in Tang San, Shrek, and the Tang Sect’s history. She accepted his offer of power, joined Akatsuki, and declared that the Tang Sect would be renamed the Root Organization. 19 20 21

Tang Ya injected herself with White Zetsu Cells disguised as material from the God Tree’s seed. Her will and martial soul allowed her to survive the assimilation process, evolving her martial soul and giving her the strength to pursue revenge directly. 22

She later attacked the Iron Blood Sect, killing its lower-ranking members and overwhelming its defenses before Huo Yuhao intervened against its strongest opponents. The sect’s destruction fulfilled her revenge for her parents and the Tang Sect. 45

Following this victory, Tang Ya withdrew from Shrek Academy, became a core Akatsuki member under the codename Black Tortoise, and accepted responsibility for building Amegakure and the Root Organization into an auxiliary covert force for Akatsuki. 48

Huo Yuhao later used Impure World Reincarnation to let Tang Ya briefly reunite with her parents. She chose to release them rather than force them to remain in Edo bodies, then swore loyalty to Huo Yuhao’s goal of creating a peaceful world and awaited his promise of their true resurrection. 112

After the White Tiger Family operation, Tang Ya received Bibi Dong’s Rakshasa God inheritance through Huo Yuhao. When Huo Yuhao took her to Blue Silver Valley, the Blue Silver Emperor’s connection to Tang San exposed the truth of Tang Ya’s origin. Tang San’s memories revealed that Tang Ya was his illegitimate daughter, that her Blue Silver Emperor bloodline and innate talent had been suppressed, and that her suffering had been arranged as part of his plan to bind the Child of Destiny to the Tang Sect. His intended future for her included eight years of captivity in the Holy Spirit Cult before a planned rescue and improvement of her talent. 436 442

The Blue Silver Emperor was devoured, causing Tang Ya’s White Zetsu to evolve into a two-hundred-thousand-year Soul Spirit. Tang Ya subsequently awakened her eighth soul skill, True Several Thousand Hands, a giant wooden Buddha technique with power comparable to that of a conventional Super Douluo. 437 441

After learning the full extent of Tang San’s manipulation, Tang Ya and Huo Yuhao resolved to strike the Heavenly Dragon Gate and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Tang Ya initially appears enthusiastic, impulsive, and deeply proud of the Tang Sect despite its decline. She eagerly recruits Huo Yuhao, immediately begins teaching him Tang Sect techniques, and reacts with open admiration to his talent and weapon designs. Her cheerfulness also masks insecurity over her own perceived lack of talent and frustration over the sect’s poverty. 7 8 11

Her unresolved grief over her parents’ deaths and the Tang Sect’s destruction leaves her vulnerable to Huo Yuhao’s manipulation. Once her faith in Shrek and Tang San collapses, she becomes intensely power-driven, decisive, and ruthless. Despite her brutality toward former enemies, Tang Ya remains emotionally attached to Huo Yuhao.
