Background / History

More than a decade before his meeting with Xu Yang, Fu Tao and a close friend sought treasure at Zhetian Mountain. They were attacked by the Four Evils of Zhetian; Fu Tao escaped, but his friend was killed. Because the Four Evils were powerful and acted together, he was unable to avenge him, and the loss became a lasting mental burden 109.

Personality

Fu Tao is cautious in dangerous environments. He urges quick action when secrecy matters, recognizes the dangers of ancient cave restrictions, and warns the group against carelessness while exploring True Man Ten Thousand Beasts' residence 95 97.

He values fair dealings and trustworthy allies. After claiming a Spirit Eye from the cave dwelling, he compensates the other explorers with rare treasures; Xu Yang's equal distribution of the Ten Thousand Beasts Pills also convinces Fu Tao to fully trust him 98 99.

Fu Tao is socially well-connected among the cultivators around the Lingxi Mountain Range. He invites Xu Yang to Elder Dahuang's exchange meeting and personally introduces him to numerous attendees 102 104.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Yanyun Grassland and Two Worlds Pass

Fu Tao leads Du Ming and Fairy Colorful Cloud into the Yanyun Grassland to seek Jade Blood Grass for Fairy Colorful Cloud's breakthrough. Mong cultivators discover and pursue them, but Xu Yang helps them escape. Although the group fails to find the herb themselves, Xu Yang gives Fairy Colorful Cloud his Jade Blood Grass; Fu Tao and his companions repay the favor with future support and Sound Transmission Talismans 90.

True Man Ten Thousand Beasts' Cave Dwelling

Fu Tao reunites with Xu Yang near a valley while carrying one of three copper fragments shared among his party. After Xu Yang joins them, the group battles the Diamond Demon Bull and explores the ancient cave dwelling of True Man Ten Thousand Beasts 95 96 99.

Fu Tao supports Xu Yang's effort to break the cave's restrictions, receives two Ten Thousand Beasts Pills in the equal distribution, and later selects a high-quality flying sword from the inner chamber's treasures 97 98 99. During the ambush outside the cave, he joins Du Ming and Fairy Colorful Cloud in the Three Talents Formation against Wu Hai and Sha Tongtian 99 100.

Lingxi Mountain Range

After the cave expedition, Fu Tao returns to the Lingxi Mountain Range, where his cave dwelling lies near those of Du Ming and Fairy Colorful Cloud beside a tributary of a Spirit Spring 101. He helps Xu Yang establish connections in the region by inviting him to Elder Dahuang's exchange meeting and introducing him to local cultivators 102 104.

When the Four Evils of Zhetian attack Xu Yang's cave dwelling, Fu Tao arrives with Du Ming and Fairy Colorful Cloud to offer support. Learning that Xu Yang has killed the Four Evils, he thanks him for unknowingly avenging his slain friend 109.

Black Water Pool

Fu Tao recalls that Black Water Pool lies on the border of the Lingnan and Yunnan Circuits and leads Xu Yang, Du Ming, and Fairy Colorful Cloud toward it to investigate a treasure map 111. Later, Xu Yang searches for Fu Tao and the others near a market, eventually finding a torn piece of Du Ming's clothing in a forest a hundred miles away 116.
