Background

Naruto was born to the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, and Kushina Uzumaki. Kushina insisted that he bear the Uzumaki name to preserve her clan’s legacy; Minato named him after the protagonist of Jiraiya’s novel. His birth was guarded by Anbu because Kushina carried the Nine-Tails’ seal. 448

As Minato’s son, the Nine-Tails jinchūriki, and an Uzumaki descendant, Naruto’s identity is politically sensitive. He spends most of his childhood at the United Nations residence and only returns to Konoha during holidays. 497
