Background / History
Linley grew up in Wushan Town as Hogg Baruch's son. As a boy, he watched Hillman instruct the guards and pursued strength through stone carving, a practice taught by Doering Cowart to improve spiritual-energy control. His early exchanges with Lin Qin centered on momentum, power, and precise control. 1 2
At Ernst Institute, Linley’s Earth-and-Wind super-grade affinities immediately established him as an exceptional prospect. He continued using stone carving to sharpen his concentration while developing as both a mage and warrior. 4
During the Elite Tournament, Linley reached the semifinals against Lin Qin. He overcame Lin Qin through coordinated wind-and-earth magic, including Meteor Fall and Destruction Storm, and later discussed the weaknesses in Lin Qin’s defensive awareness with him. 29 30
After leaving the institute, Linley undertook life-and-death combat against magic beasts. By the time Lin Qin found him fighting a ninth-rank Wind-Thunder Rhino, Linley had reached the eighth warrior rank and at least the seventh mage rank, but was burdened by unresolved troubles he would not discuss. 43
Linley later awakened as a Dragonblood Warrior and rose into the Saint Realm. When threatened by High Inquisitor Steller, he fought while severely injured to protect his companions until Lin Qin intervened and saved the group. 72 75 110
In the O'Brien Empire, Linley cultivated the Laws of Earth and Wind, fought Hedereson at Tu Jiao Mountain, and gained a battle-born epiphany after forcibly combining wind and earth power to block Hedereson’s sword. Though he conceded the duel, he regarded the insight as more valuable than victory. 117 118 119
Linley eventually became a Wind-element Lowgod. When Yale was controlled by the Grand Wizard, Linley sought Lin Qin’s aid to rescue him and stop the harvesting of souls for Soul Gold Beads. 145
Appearance
As a child, Linley has brown hair and bright eyes. In later years, his ordinary appearance conceals a powerful and increasingly restrained aura. 1 118
- Carries a heavy black sword, Slaughter, during combat. 114
- Wears dark-green robes after becoming a God. 145
- His Dragonblood transformation enlarges his body and covers him in scales described as dark red or fine green in separate encounters. 72 114 118
- His transformed presence carries the distinctive heat and ferocity of Dragonblood power. 72
Personality
Linley is driven, resilient, and intensely focused on becoming stronger. Even as a child, he was drawn to practical methods of improving control, using stone carving to train both his spiritual energy and will. 2
He is frank about his limits and learns from defeat rather than resenting it. After losing to Hedereson, he cleanly conceded once he could no longer continue, recognizing that his enlightenment mattered more than the result. 119
Linley is deeply protective of those close to him. Despite severe injuries, he stood between Steller and his companions; later, Yale’s enslavement compelled him to seek help from Lin Qin without hesitation. 72 145
