Background / History

The Celestial Star Sect originated when Hunyuan Ancestor passed teachings to three disciples, who established the Violet Sun, Bright Moon, and Celestial Star Sects. Tianhe Zhenren founded the Celestial Star lineage after observing celestial phenomena and created its foundational framework, described as “Xing Hai Hua Tian Luo, Qiankun Yi Zhang Zhong.” 8

Tianhe was said to have begun as a middle-aged fisherman with little education or martial foundation. He later attained formidable true qi, created the all-encompassing Myriad Phenomena Sky Net, and was regarded as Hunyuan Ancestor’s most brilliant disciple. 9 Under his legacy, the sect became the foremost of the Three Divine Peaks for roughly a century, possessing the renowned “Seven Techniques and Fifteen Swords.” 9

Thirty years before the main story, the sect entered the Battle of Celestial Star Demon Subjugation against the Reincarnation Sect. At the time, it had three Innate experts, including Sect Leader Li Qianshan, who had reached the peak of the fourth Innate realm. 64 Although the sect crippled the Reincarnation Sect, both sides were left devastated; the Great Li imperial family then intervened against the exhausted survivors, turning the campaign into a trap that severely weakened Celestial Star. 64

The court subsequently removed Celestial Star-affiliated generals from office. Feeling betrayed, surviving disciples dispersed across the martial world rather than return to a sect still cooperating with the imperial court. 64 By the present era, the sect had no Innate experts remaining and had fallen behind both the Violet Sun and Bright Moon Sects. 64

The Three Branch Tournament was organized to reunite Gazing Sky Cliff, Gold Jade Hall, and Fierce Tiger Stronghold. Its winner would become Young Sect Leader and receive the Vast Sea Heart Sutra and a Lapis Pill. 74 Lu Wu-bing’s victory and subsequent leadership helped bring the branches together, restore morale, and begin the sect’s revival. 133 154

Disciples

At its historical height, the sect reportedly maintained three thousand disciples, including eight hundred direct disciples, with twenty-eight fifth-generation elders. 112 During its decline, only nine direct disciples remained on Celestial Star Peak. 112

Following the branches’ reunification, Lu Wu-bing trained more than four hundred disciples in body refinement and swordsmanship. The sect then began recruiting widely again, with the goal of restoring its former scale. 157 177

Dripping Water Force

The Dripping Water Force is the sect’s introductory internal-energy method and the foundation of Tianhe Zhenren’s lineage. It is described as upright, peaceful, and safe for beginners, with no risk of qi deviation. 7 8

Reputation

The Celestial Star Sect is counted among the righteous martial world’s greatest lineages: “One Temple, One Mountain, Three Divine Peaks” refers respectively to the Great Brahma Temple, True Martial Mountain, and the Violet Sun, Bright Moon, and Celestial Star Sects. 3

Ouyang Zheng is known as “Righteousness Reaching the Heavens,” while he and Qin Huaiying are recognized for helping those in distress and strictly disciplining disciples. 3 This reputation endured even during the sect’s decline, though its old prestige also made its inheritances a target for hostile factions. 139

Resources and Revival

The Gazing Sky Cliff lineage was once severely impoverished, with ordinary food, limited medicinal meals, and insufficient resources even for regular meat consumption. 50 87 The reunification of the three branches changed this situation substantially.
