Background / History
Misty Rain Pavilion was a dominant Sea Continent sect whose influence rested on an extensive network of assassins, spies, hidden agents, and subordinate forces. Its headquarters was deliberately difficult to locate: an underwater immortal palace capable of moving through the sea and ascending into the heavens. Its elusive nature inspired its name—like mist and rain, it could stir events everywhere while remaining difficult to grasp 147 363.
The pavilion cultivated and controlled covert operatives across rival organizations. Chi Wanning was one such agent within the Black and White Divine Palace; Misty Rain Pavilion forced the Three Corpses Pill upon her and held her family hostage to ensure her obedience. Rather than protect her from Ancestor Qingmu's plan to use her Water Spirit Body as a cauldron, it intended to exploit her predicament to control him 53.
Its Chess Player City network suffered a major collapse after Ning Ye identified numerous single-line contacts and ordered simultaneous arrests. Four strongholds were uprooted in one day, more than a dozen operatives were captured, and seized documents exposed further bases before the pavilion could withdraw personnel 153.
Repeated setbacks weakened the sect further. Its operations against Luo City, East Wind Pass, Magnetic Mountain, and the Ten Thousand Immortals Sect drew mounting opposition, while internal betrayal caused the deaths of senior personnel. By the time of the Sea Continent alliance's assault, old enemies and minor sects had united against it 206 378 410 412.
Headquarters and Defenses
Misty Rain Pavilion's headquarters was an underwater immortal palace located near Heavenly Heart Island every March. A seawater lake at the island's center connected to the palace far below the sea, allowing the sect to maintain contact with its surface territory 410.
- The palace stood roughly a thousand zhang beneath the sea, protected by a barrier that kept its interior dry while allowing sea life to pass harmlessly around it 410.
- Its visible layout contained nine palaces and eighteen halls, with densely arranged pavilions, terraces, and waterside structures 415.
- The defensive grand formation consisted of 108 independent smaller formations, preventing a single breach from collapsing the entire defense 413.
- A crystal conduit linked the palace to Heavenly Heart Island and was believed to supply spirit-stone energy from the surface. It was later revealed that the apparent conduit concealed the Spirit Light Ruler; destroying it would instead release the ruler's power 410 441.
- Ning Ye noted that the palace's Nine Palaces layout and several functional positions resembled the Thousand Mechanism Hall, suggesting that its founder may have had a connection to the Heavenly Mechanism Sect 415.
Secret Grounds
- Shaking Light Mirror Pavilion — A secret cultivation ground containing 3,600 bronze mirrors. It is an artificial Dao Realm centered on light and illusion, strengthened through formations and divine artifacts 416.
- Dark Hall — An important internal site containing the Heart-Rectifying Pool, a counterpart to the Heart-Cleansing Pool associated with reshaping or controlling the mind 417.
- Flowing Rosy Clouds Pavilion — The location of the pavilion's secret treasury 419.
- Heavenly Prison — A restricted prison area corresponding to the Gen position in the pavilion's Nine Palaces arrangement 415.
Organization and Operations
Assassination and Espionage
Misty Rain Pavilion operated what was described as the Evergreen Realm's most powerful assassin organization. A dedicated assassination division accepted contracts as a major source of income, while its agents excelled at counter-surveillance and concealment 147.
Its covert network relied heavily on single-line contact structures: low-ranking operatives typically knew only their direct handler, limiting the information they could expose if captured. This structure also prevented agents from warning one another during Ning Ye's coordinated arrests in Chess Player City 153.
- It maintained multiple strongholds in Chess Player City, including a base at Frost Moon Market 148.
- It used ordinary people as intelligence agents where cultivators were unnecessary 162.
- It issued a ten-million-spirit-stone kill order against Ning Ye, placing him thirty-first on its wanted list 265.
- Its willingness to use hostage-taking, poisons, planted spies, and false identities made it widely feared as coldhearted and deceptive 53 175.
Control Methods and Poisons
- Three Corpses Pill — A spirit-corroding poison used to control Chi Wanning. It becomes most vulnerable when it erupts, but once it fully corrodes the Primordial Spirit, even Misty Rain Pavilion cannot cure it 53 181.
- Spirit-Eroding Smoke — A poison mastered only by Misty Rain Pavilion. It destroys the Primordial Spirit and can kill even Nirvana Realm cultivators 369.
- Chillmist Stone — A tightly controlled resource important to the production or use of Spirit-Eroding Smoke 369.
- Heart-Rectifying Pool — A sect resource with an implied role in mental conditioning and loyalty control 417.
Source Pavilion Guards
The 128 Source Pavilion Guards were Myriad Laws Realm cultivators who fought as a coordinated unit. Their combined seal arts allowed them to invoke techniques normally limited to much higher realms 403.
- They used the Heavenly Net Seal Method to combine 128 hand seals into the Moro Seal 403.
- Their formations could imitate one technique while concealing another, as when the apparent Moro Seal transformed into Autumn Wind Sweeps to neutralize Yang Zhishan's force 403.
- Their coordinated methods demonstrated the pavilion's emphasis on deception, transformation, and group formations rather than straightforward combat 403.
Abilities & Skills
Mist-Wave Fog-Hiding Divine Ability
A principal immortal art of Misty Rain Pavilion, the Mist-Wave Fog-Hiding Divine Ability specializes in concealment, disguise, transformation, and escape. Its practitioners can shift through countless forms, making the pavilion's agents difficult to identify or capture 146.
- Can transform the user's body into mist or watery radiance for escape 286 365.
- Its breakthrough aura can be detected, creating a vulnerability during advancement 146.
- At high levels, its techniques can disguise one divine ability as another and turn softness into a counter to overwhelming force 403.
- It was sufficiently distinctive that Ning Ye's use of it risked exposing Chi Wanning's connection to the pavilion 374.
Cloud Sea All Beings Art
The Cloud Sea All Beings Art was a secret art for cultivating the Primordial Spirit and served as a foundation for many of the pavilion's immortal arts and divine abilities 376.
- The Ten Thousand Immortals Sect's Inner Moon arts were developed specifically to counter it 376.
- Spirit-Eroding Jade Dew could strengthen its effects, making the medicine strategically valuable to the pavilion's Nirvana Realm experts 376.
Xuanji Dao Realm
Misty Rain Pavilion's ultimate project was the Xuanji Dao Realm, an artificial Dao Realm created by turning the entire headquarters into a higher-order cultivation environment 424 425.
- The pavilion spent ten thousand years reinforcing its headquarters for this purpose 425.
- When activated, the palace rose from the sea and manifested hundreds of layers of Dao laws 424.
- Its intended purpose was not merely defense: the sect hoped to create a small world capable of supporting Sixth Realm powerhouses 425.
- The realm became the focal point of the final internal struggle between Xue Qianhong's faction, Shenxiao, Ning Ye, and the besieging alliance 425 432.

Relationships
- Chi Wanning — Former controlled agent. The pavilion forced her to take the Three Corpses Pill, imprisoned her family, and intended to use her standing within the Black and White Divine Palace for long-term espionage 53 371.
- Black and White Divine Palace — Major enemy. Ning Ye's attacks devastated the Chess Player City network, while the palace later participated in schemes surrounding the pavilion's ascended headquarters 153 435.
- Ten Thousand Immortals Sect — Long-standing rival. Misty Rain Pavilion monitored and pressured the sect because its hidden Nirvana Realm succession method posed a strategic threat 378.
- Flying Heron Sect and Great Zen Temple — Suppressed Sea Continent sects that joined the coalition against Misty Rain Pavilion when it weakened 412.
- Four Seas Sect — Contingency branch intended to serve as the foundation for a future Misty Rain Pavilion restoration on Sea Continent 437.
- Demon Sect — Both source of recruits and infiltrators. Mo Haishou defected from the Demon Sect into Misty Rain Pavilion, while Lu Yuantang infiltrated the pavilion on the Demon Sect's behalf 272 404.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Chess Player City Crackdown
Chi Wanning lured out a pavilion agent by claiming that her Mist-Wave Fog-Hiding Divine Ability was nearing a breakthrough. This led Ning Ye and his allies to uncover the Frost Moon Market stronghold and dismantle a substantial portion of the pavilion's Chess Player City network 146 148 153.
Sea Continent Schemes
The pavilion attempted to reverse Luo City's grand formation and activate the Death Realm Furnace to refine the entire city in pursuit of the Exquisite Tower. It later maneuvered around East Wind Pass, sought the Inner Moon Profound Connection Secret Art at Magnetic Mountain, and planned to destroy Eternal Willow 206 272 295 378.
Fall of the Pavilion
After losses caused by Ning Ye, internal betrayal, and opposition from previously suppressed sects, Misty Rain Pavilion was besieged by the Hundred Families Alliance. Xue Qianhong activated the Xuanji Dao Realm as the pavilion's final trump card, turning the headquarters into an artificial Dao Realm rather than surrendering it 419 424.
Following Shen Feiyun's death and Shenxiao's failed attempt to seize the realm, the entire palace ascended into astral winds and baleful currents beyond the nine heavens. The sect was publicly declared destroyed, leaving a power vacuum across Sea Continent 432 434 435.
Astral Rediscovery
Years later, Gilded Shuttles carried Black and White Divine Palace and Haotian Sect representatives to the ascended pavilion. They found it apparently empty but filled with divine artifacts and the lethal Nine Heavens Ten Lands Judgment Divine Array 494 498.
Trivia
- Ning Ye named his illusion-and-slaughter art Misty Rain Tower after Misty Rain Pavilion, explicitly because he wanted the sect to hate him and recognize him as an enemy 190.
- The pavilion's supposed energy conduit was one of its most convincing deceptions: it was actually the sealed Spirit Light Ruler, an imitation of the Heavenly Mechanism Sect's Xuanji Ruler 441.
