Background
Hela was the first life form born in the Netherworld and became the Death Chief Sovereign after the Sovereign Sparks appeared. Although she was one of the Four Rule Sovereigns and possessed the Heart of the Underworld, she long remained unable to cross the Paragon threshold. She openly attributed this failure not to talent, but to inferior perseverance compared with Vivian, Uterede, and Orf. 7 55
The Heart of the Underworld allowed her to contend with Paragon Rule Sovereigns before attaining Paragon herself. It enhances her strength within the Underworld and enables Death-rule effects at Paragon standards, though using it at full power strains her body. 55 114 151
Believing that the Overgods might be controlled by an existence beyond the world’s laws, Hela sought the “pinnacle” beyond Sovereignhood. Lincoln’s extraordinary potential convinced her to gamble on an alliance with him. 56 64
Appearance
Hela is a red-haired woman usually associated with the purple-black palace atop Nether Mountain. Her normal attire was unchanged for countless years until she began wearing more vivid red garments after her relationship with Lincoln deepened. 125 155
- Red hair and a graceful, youthful appearance. 80 126
- Often wears vivid red dresses; Lincoln later crafted the Wide-Sleeved Immortal Dress for her. 154 155
- Her divine beast form is the Void Soul Vine, a colossal deep-sea vine with dark green-black flesh and deep blue veins. 180
- Wields a golden chained scythe whose trailing “metal ball” is actually a Hollow Bell. 175 181
Personality
Hela is candid about her limitations and ambitions. She envies Lincoln’s talent, yet distinguishes that envy from resentment; his growth represents her chance to witness a realm beyond the Sovereigns. 55 126
She is politically perceptive and cautious, frequently gathering information, mediating Sovereign disputes, and shielding Lincoln when his actions risk provoking the other Chief Sovereigns. However, she resents being treated only as someone who cleans up his problems, demanding honesty and involvement from her allies. 72 80 126
Her protectiveness is fierce. She opposed Lincoln’s proposal to abort their child despite the danger to herself, and later wanted the Asuras who insulted Hades killed. She can also be ruthless toward enemies, as shown when she forcibly extracted Augusta’s memories despite his suffering. 183 197 201
Abilities & Skills
Death Rules
As a Death Paragon, Hela possesses exceptional command of Death-rule techniques and soul-based combat.
- Severed Uterede’s Soul Prison threads with her scythe, dismissing his soul technique as ineffective against a Death Paragon. 175
- Uses deathly vines and soul energy in both direct combat and battlefield control. 181 207
- Her Paragon breakthrough was recognized across the Underworld through the descent of the Laws of the World. 153 154
Heart of the Underworld
The Heart of the Underworld is Hela’s defining treasure and the source of much of her former Paragon-level combat capability.
- Amplifies both her direct strength and Death-rule effects, particularly in the Underworld. 55 114
- Can examine souls, probe reincarnation-related matters, and cleanse soul impurities. 114 151 152
- Its full activation manifests a colossal stone-statue projection connected to the Nether Sea. 151 153
- Cleansing Lincoln’s soul impurities cost Hela Quintessence Blood. 152
- Before reaching Paragon, its rule amplification let her exert Paragon-level standards; afterward, its direct amplification remained relevant to her strength. 158
Life and Death Intertwined
Hela and Vivian can combine their Innate Divine Abilities into Life and Death Intertwined.
- Multiplies their power by a thousandfold. 67 127
- Combines material and soul attacks. 127
- Has a stated 50% chance to instantly kill any target below Supreme God level; survivors are severely wounded. 127
- The ability severely injured Lincoln’s Dark Sovereign Clone and tore away a fragment of his soul. 159
Death Hymn
Death Hymn is Hela’s wide-area Innate Divine Ability, manifested through the phantom of her Void Soul Vine.
- Releases deep-blue light points accompanied by a mournful song that directly affects the soul and destabilizes emotions. 180
- Can engulf and incapacitate opponents over a wide area. 180 182
- After use, returning light points can restore much of Hela’s soul fatigue. 182
- Once she gained sufficient control and Willpower, she could activate Death Hymn and the Heart of the Underworld together. 181
Combat and Command
Hela is an experienced Sovereign-level combatant and political leader.
- Personally prevented Uterede from aiding Orf during the conflict among the Chief Sovereigns. 175
- Defeated Uterede by restraining him with the Scythe of Death, blocking his final strike, and engulfing him in Death Hymn. 182
- Rewards and maintains the loyalty of the Underworld Sovereigns, distributing Heaven and Earth Wonders after her breakthrough. 155
- Protects the authority and safety of her son Hades while allowing him to develop his own goals and command experience. 201 202
