"It was the same when it was DemiDevimon."
"Perhaps this is the fundamental effect of the Pride series of Magic Guidance cards."
"If Pride 1 can be upgraded to Pride 2, there should be further changes."
1:10 PM.
Dark headed to the Magic Potion classroom early, only to encounter Victor, Robert, and Emma on the way.
They seemed to be arguing?
Chapter 26: The Great Debt Crisis of Victor and Robert
Robert Broheim never expected that Emma Metis would be such a vicious woman!
He had originally thought that this fellow townsman from the same city was reliable (and someone he could borrow money from), but he never imagined that from the moment she lent him the credits, she had been plotting against him in the shadows!
"You scheming bitch!"
He cursed loudly!
"Robert..."
Victor tried to pull him back, but failed.
Robert came from a military family; although he was dim-witted, he possessed a raw, brute strength!
While Victor had inherited the bloodline of the Hero, he had lost both parents and never received a proper education, leaving him malnourished and somewhat thin.
The disparity in their strength might reverse in the near future, but not right now.
The furious Robert was flushed from his cheeks down to his neck from sheer agitation.
The spittle from his roar nearly landed on Emma's face.
Emma, however, remained cold and indifferent, showing no signs of being provoked.
Seeing Robert swing his fist, which was as large as a meat bun, Victor hurriedly grabbed his arm, while Emma merely gave a cold sneer: "Only childish people resort to their fists."
Robert's expression faltered, his strength drained from his hand, and he allowed Victor to pull his arm down.
But his anger remained, and he gritted his teeth: "It's just five credits, isn't it? I'll go find someone to borrow them from right now!"
Emma said coldly: "We signed a contract, Robert."
Robert roared: "It's only a five-credit difference!"
Emma was unconcerned: "It's already too late, Robert. It is now the fourth doubling period."
The starting time was Friday at 1:00 PM.
Robert had always assumed that a day meant after the calendar turned, subconsciously ignoring the day of Friday itself.
But in reality, from the moment the contract was signed, a day was 24 hours.
After 1:00 PM on Saturday was the second day.
Starting from 1:00 PM on Sunday was the third day.
Now that it was past 1:00 PM on Monday, it was the fourth day!
Two times on the first day, four times on the second, eight times on the third, and sixteen times on the fourth.
Sixteen times five was a full 80 credits!
Robert had still been thinking that he only needed to scrape together 40 credits for the whole day today.
They already had 35 credits, and once they finished the Magic Potion class in the afternoon, they would have 55 credits—paying off the debt would be easy, right?
Even at the very worst, as long as they borrowed 5 credits from someone, they could make it!
Robbing Peter to pay Paul—who didn't know how to do that?
Those old military ruffians were best at this sort of thing!
Having been influenced by them, Robert's thinking was exactly the same.
"Don't get excited, Robert."
Victor finally couldn't help but speak up.
He had felt something was wrong from the start, and now he finally understood.
"Even if it is 80 credits, we can still easily pay it off. One class this afternoon, two classes tomorrow morning, plus what we already have—that's a full 95 credits! More than enough!"
"That's true!"
Robert struggled to calculate, then finally calmed down: "Once we pay back all the credits tomorrow, Emma, we will have nothing more to do with each other!"
"So it's a drama about paying off debts, I wondered what it was. It seems the trio is still stuck together, albeit in a rather abnormal relationship..."
Dark saw that a fight wasn't going to break out, so he turned and walked away.
It was only 80 credits; he would pay it off in the blink of an eye.
Potions class.
Starting from this lesson, Professor Thompson began teaching the students how to brew the "Speed Magic Potion."
This was a special potion that could help a magus quickly recover the magic power required for three "Normal Summons," and one dose could be taken per day.
Once a duel competition entered the tournament phase, it became a war of attrition, which heavily tested a magus's total magic capacity and recovery ability.
The "Speed Magic Potion" could often play a pivotal role at critical moments.
In order to "avoid losing points and gain more" during this lesson, Victor and Robert listened to the lecture and conducted their experiments very seriously.
But they were far too impatient.
While brewing his potion, Robert accidentally added an extra pinch of "Expansion Grass," causing the cauldron to explode and blowing the lid right off!
In an attempt to help Robert deal with the wildly overflowing potion, Victor accidentally knocked over his own cauldron!
Not only were they both deducted five points each, but they were also punished by being made to stay behind to clean the classroom!
"Professor Thompson already explained the dangers of Expansion Grass in the class the week before last, Robert."
As Emma left the classroom, she took the opportunity to throw a sarcastic remark their way.
--Regardless of whether it was truly sarcasm or not.
In Robert's eyes, it was a very malicious taunt!
"What should we do, Victor? We've lost another 10 points!"
After a brief moment of anger, Robert became dejected.
Victor, however, was using his Sorting Card to check the contract.
He couldn't help but say, "What is up with this contract? Doubling the principal, paid in full at once? I thought we could pay a little bit first to lighten the debt slightly, so the doubling next time wouldn't be so bad."
"Damn that Emma! She really was plotting against us from the start!" Robert leaned his mop against the wall with force, then clutched his head in agony.
Victor was, after all, much calmer: "It seems we need to borrow some credits from others before one o'clock tomorrow afternoon as a precaution."
Robert shuddered: "Borrow again? That doesn't seem right. As long as we don't lose points in our two classes tomorrow morning, we'll have forty points, and adding that to today's forty-five, it should be enough."
Victor shook his head: "Don't you see it yet? Five points per class—that is our normal level."
Truly worthy of being the son of the Hero!
After cleaning the classroom, Victor and Robert began to borrow money everywhere.
Their primary targets were, naturally, their classmates in the Knight Academy.
Andrina was a nice girl.
She always wore her brown hair in twin tails, had a few harmless freckles on her face, and smiled very cheerfully.
Victor and Robert could barely manage to speak a few words to her—in fact, that was back in the first week.
The first week of school happened to be the time when Victor was most popular.
But there was always a time when young magi would calm down. As Victor gradually fell into the same rut as Robert, getting called out by professors for point deductions in almost every class, even if he was the son of ten Heroes, it was inevitable that the young magi's perception of him would worsen.
By the third week, no girls would take the initiative to talk to them anymore.
Victor was pushed to the front by Robert, who claimed that using his celebrity effect would make it easier to borrow money.
With no other choice, Victor had to thicken his skin and speak up.
Andrina finally understood why these two had called her into the hallway and couldn't help but ask: "Is it because Robert doesn't have enough credits for the 'Magic Phantom Beast' material kit?"
Victor wanted to explain, but he felt too embarrassed to say it.
Robert, however, said immediately: "Yes, Andrina. You've seen it too; our credits were all used to buy Magic Chess! Just lend us a little. We can sign a contract and pay it back within three days!"
But Andrina just shook her head: "I'm very sorry, but I also need to buy the 'Magic Phantom Beast' material kit."
Chapter 27: Victor and Robert Start Their Race on the Path of Life
"Just five points, three points, even one point would do!"
"I'm really sorry, I have to save my remaining credits. What if the creation of the 'Magic Phantom Beast' fails again? I don't want to fail the assignment."
"One point? What use is one point? A toothpick can't plug a vat; you'd better think of another way."
"Robert? If you don't have enough credits, you can borrow from Victor, right? Eh? The Hero's son doesn't have enough credits either? Then there's nothing to be done."
"It's like this, I've already promised to lend my credits to Barbara. Her spending on Traveler Street is too high, and she can't scrape together 100 credits either."
"Robert? Forget it then. If Victor were to borrow from me... actually, I also need to buy the 'Magic Phantom Beast' material kit, hehe."
"Hey, you big-headed ghost!"
Just as Victor and Robert were struggling to find a way to borrow money, Dark had found a new source of amusement in his bedroom.
"Project initiation: Research on Magic Spirits!"
As expected, as long as a person puts their mind to it, they can find countless possibilities. Even something as rigorous as the Demon God bloodline had to bow before the human imagination.
Dark researched while petting Eevee; he didn't slack off or act pretentious, and he kept the petting to a light level.
A small satisfaction in life.
The so-called Seven Deadly Sins were nothing more than this.
The research on Magic Phantom Beast: Eevee was proceeding very smoothly.
As the effect of Pride 1 faded, Eevee returned to its soft and cute personality, no longer appearing arrogant, but the intelligence in its eyes remained.
Although its intelligence level was not yet on par with DemiDevimon, it was close to that of a normal familiar, at around 2.5.
However, compared to familiars, Magic Spirits could not maintain their physical form for long.
They consumed magic power every single moment.
The initial consumption was drawn from the magus's Summoning Technique.
This portion of magic power was consumed relatively slowly, and even a small amount could sustain them for three to five minutes, after which they would begin to consume their own magic power.
The magic consumption rate for a one-star Magic Spirit was 1 point per second.
Based on Eevee's total magic power of 100, it could only persist for an additional one minute and forty seconds.
If it unleashed its ultimate move, Mimic, which had a magic consumption value of 100, it would dissipate immediately!
