Ten chapters is my limit. For one thing, I have other work every day. For another, this isn't a book I can write quickly. I don't think anyone wants to see it fall apart because I rushed it.

The premium launch is at noon on Friday, July 31. I've never done this before, so I'm not sure of the exact time.

Chapter 61: Dark Demon's Second Magic Spirit Card

"Meow, meow, meow!"

Dark settled the Meow Meow Grass on his lap, scratching its chin as he carefully examined the flower bud on its head.

Overall, the Meow Meow Grass had instinctively protected its own flower bud, leaving it undamaged.

Dark suppressed his desire for "one more drop" and tried to formulate another research question: If I don't add any more "Pride," can I get the bud to bloom through ordinary cultivation?

After all, autumn was the season when Meow Meow Grass flowered and bore fruit.

With that thought, Dark finally quelled his impulse.

With the situation still reasonably stable, there was indeed no need to take that risk.

The brain was, after all, the most complex system in the human body. A single mishap could cause irreparable damage.

Drawing on the self-control he had honed over the past month, Dark successfully steadied himself.

But a new idea soon occurred to him: couldn't he conduct an experiment without waiting for it to flower and bear fruit?

Although he couldn't tamper with the bud, the Meow Meow Grass itself had a fleshy stem, and its fur served a purpose analogous to a cactus's spines.

It couldn't possibly absorb and convert one hundred percent of the "Pride."

Some of what leaked out might well spread throughout its body.

In that case, would it be feasible to experiment with its fur first?

With that in mind, Dark opened the Magic Spirit Transmutation-General Handbook and soon found the Basic Transmutation Methods for [Bird-Beast Species-Grass-type] and [Plant Species-Grass-type].

So far, the Meow Meow Grass had shown no sign of any other attributes. Judging by its biology, it looked like a cat of the bird-beast species, but was fundamentally of the plant species.

For now, then, he would experiment along those two paths.

First, he copied out both Basic Transmutation Methods, both for easy reference and to familiarize himself with them.

Next, he selected ten long hairs near the crest on the Meow Meow Grass's head, snipped them off, rinsed them with clean water, then dried and pressed them flat.

After that, he shut the mischievous Meow Meow Grass out on the balcony.

Everything was ready.

Dark eagerly began his experiment.

Professor Kazel hadn't assigned any related homework during this class, but that was only to give the students time to adjust. Next Monday's Magic Theory class would focus on experiments, and students would need to bring their own materials, such as hair and plant parts.

Of course, Professor Kazel never minded lending the laboratory key to students who showed initiative.

A single wrong step during the entire transmutation process could very well mean starting over.

Fortunately, all the materials used were basic ones.

The materials Dark had bought over the weekend were just right for the task.

Following the procedure, he first made a small bottle of spirit honey nectar.

As the foundation for cultivating pseudo-life-forms, spirit honey nectar was widely used in magic spirit transmutation.

Almost every Basic Transmutation Method used this special magic potion.

Lobotomy essence water was another widely applicable magic potion.

After that, Dark also prepared a bottle of lobotomy essence water.

The entire preparation process took half an hour, and he made at least two portions of almost every potion and material.

Dark never grew irritated while making magic potions. He always managed to remain enthusiastic, so the potions he prepared carried a touch of "spirit" as well.

Next, he took out a blank Magitech Card and laid it flat on the desk. He first spread the spirit honey nectar evenly over it, then added a drop of lobotomy essence water.

After letting it dry a little, he applied a layer of deep green "plant essential oil" and sprinkled on some grass-type "attribute powder."

"Attribute powder" was a standard medicinal powder divided into twenty attributes.

Its production process was extremely complicated, so people generally bought it ready-made.

Dark had bought an entire set of attribute powders.

Next, he needed to draw Transmutation Circle No. 7 and first transmute and fuse these materials with the blank Magitech Card.

That was only the first major step.

It took fifty-five minutes in total.

A highly complete, semifinished Magitech Card now lay on Dark's desk.

The face of this kind of Magitech Card was greenish, marking it as [Plant Species-Grass-type].

"The last step."

Dark took a gentle breath and picked up the Magic Pen. Replacing its mercury core with "chlorophyll potion," he began drawing the No. 1 Transmutation Circle.

This time, it took only fourteen seconds!

The No. 1 Transmutation Circle was complete!

The instant the circuit connected, the entire transmutation array

burst into a faint green glow!

Dark carefully picked up a strand of Meow Meow Grass fur with tweezers and placed it above the No. 1 Transmutation Circle!

The hair was gradually engulfed by the green light.

But the light from the No. 1 Transmutation Circle did not grow stronger.

After considering it for a moment, he added a second hair, then a third... until he had put in all ten.

The light grew slightly stronger, but became extremely unstable.

Dark's eyes shifted, and he snipped off a bit of his own fingernail and dropped it in.

In an instant, the green light flared!

All the materials were devoured, and the entire Magitech Card turned into a green cocoon.
