Tang Chen was the Clear Sky Sect Master and a level 99 Limit Douluo. Alongside Qian Daoliu and Sea God Island's Bo Saixi, he was counted among the three strongest figures on the continent. He journeyed to Sea God Island with Qian Daoliu, met Bo Saixi, and later accepted the Asura God's inheritance in pursuit of godhood. 102 138

While undergoing the Asura God's trials in Slaughter City, interference from another god created an opening for the Crimson Nine-Headed Bat King to parasitize him. Tang Chen became the Slaughter King and remained trapped under the creature's influence for decades. 137 138

Danheng forcibly removed the Bat King from Tang Chen's body, leaving him gaunt, confused, and severely depleted. Although Tang Chen immediately wanted revenge, he was persuaded to leave the Bat King alive until the Infernal Path could be opened; without it, he lacked the strength to escape Slaughter City in his condition. 138 139

After learning from Danheng that his son Tang Wei had died, his grandson Tang Hao had been expelled from the Clear Sky Sect, and the Blue Silver Emperor had sacrificed herself for Tang Hao, Tang Chen resolved to return to the sect and verify its history personally. 141

Upon leaving Slaughter City, Tang Chen's body rapidly deteriorated. He completed his eighth Asura God trial and accepted the descending Divine Power despite expecting it to kill him. Danheng escorted Tang Chen to the Clear Sky Sect's hidden mountain settlement.
