Background

Masumi had a history of theft beginning in middle school. Arisu Sakayanagi caught her stealing after she enrolled at Advanced Nurturing High School and used that secret to make her work under her; Masumi initially resented this arrangement but later came to accept it. 68 83 142

Her concealed theft record made her a useful operative within the Sakayanagi Faction. Because the Katsuragi Faction viewed her as someone forced into Sakayanagi’s service rather than a committed follower, it was less wary of her movements. 55

Masumi first appears beside Arisu in the dormitory lobby, visibly reluctant to be presented as Arisu’s “friend.” Hachiman deduces her secret history of theft, allowing him to win a bet against Arisu. 30

As part of Arisu’s lost wager, Masumi is compelled to wear a maid outfit and assist Hachiman. The incident becomes a recurring source of embarrassment and teasing. 34 35

Uninhabited-Island Special Exam

Masumi acts as a covert scout for the Sakayanagi Faction and supplies Hachiman with intelligence that aids Class D’s base strategy. She also participates in the faction’s plan to weaken the Katsuragi Faction by leaking Class A’s leader information. 55 56 63
