Lepest, the headquarters of the Imperial Security Committee, also known as Clovin.
This massive, castle-like complex, constructed from dark gray megaliths, crouched like a silent beast on the outskirts of the Imperial capital, Xiting City, exuding a chilling aura even in broad daylight.
Deep within the top floor at the center of the castle, inside the office of the Chairman of the Imperial Security Committee, heavy curtains blocked out most of the outside light. Only the dim, yellowish glow from a green-shaded desk lamp illuminated the mountains of stacked documents and a figure with a straight, rigid back.
This was the current Chairman of Clovin, the supreme leader of the Imperial Security Committee.
The old man, with his silver-white hair and a face etched with the ravines of time, yet eyes still as sharp as a falcon's, was slowly opening the thickest file box on his desk.
This box itself was ordinary, but on its lid, marked in bright red ink, were the highest-level warning symbols and a line of text: "Xiting City Series of Malignant Psionic Out-of-Control Incidents (Unresolved/★★★★★ Highest Confidentiality Level)."
His name was Andrich Vorman, and at this moment, he used his steady, age-spotted hands to remove the first document from the box.
His movements were very slow, as if with every page he turned, he was weighing the risks represented behind them.
He read through them one by one, the dim light dancing in his deep, profound eyes.
The first: <Report on Abnormal Clues Regarding Counterfeit Imperial Security Committee Credentials>.
The report briefly described a case of forged credentials involving a thief, with the final clues pointing to a young man named Malcolm and his accomplices. They had long-term rented rooms at the youth hostel on Lubo Lane, and their behavioral patterns were highly suspicious of conducting targeted surveillance. A note was attached to the end of the report: The surveillance target is suspected to be linked to subsequent events.
New note: Subsequent investigations confirmed that Malcolm was a low-ranking cleric of the illegal Imperial cult organization, the Order of Hidden Cultivation.
The second: <Report on the Unnatural Death of Imperial Industrial University History Professor Jeffrey Gito>.
It recorded in detail the tragic state of Professor Jeffrey's death scene, as well as the intense, chaotic, and corrosive psionic pollution remaining in his apartment.
At the same time, several photos of the scene were attached to the report.
Andrich picked up those photos; the study, pitch-black like a fire scene, had everything inside carbonized, yet such terrifyingly high-temperature flames had not spread to other areas of the apartment.
He focused on one of the photos for a while. It was a picture of Jeffrey's corpse. Even though the entire body had been burned into a large charcoal block, he could still see the grimace of the man before his death, yet he also felt as if a sense of relief permeated the man's blackened, twisted expression.
The third: <Report on the Spread of Malignant Psionic Pollution at 153 Higgins Street, West District>.
The content of this report could be seen as a follow-up to the previous one.
At 153 Higgins Street, the study in Jeffrey's residence had become the epicenter of the malignant psionic pollution, with a pollution level of "Beta-class"!
Currently, it has been calculated that, with 153 Higgins Street as the center, 37 households have been affected, with 98 people suffering from malignant psionic pollution.
The manifestations of these people suffering from malignant psionic pollution include: inability to control emotions, loss of reason when irritable, and abuse of violence... the vast majority show tendencies to harm others or even kill.
Currently, the malignant psionic pollution at 153 Higgins Street has been expelled and purified by another powerful psionic force, but there still exists residual third-party psionic fluctuations, and no negative pollution has appeared yet.
The source of the third-party spiritual fluctuations is unknown!
After reading this report, Andrich took a deep breath; his stern expression almost failed to hold.
After putting down the third report, he picked up the next one inside.
The fourth: <Report on the Disappearance of Imperial Industrial University History Professor Vanason>.
Imperial Industrial University History Professor Vanason was a colleague of Jeffrey.
After Jeffrey's death, he went to visit and then mysteriously disappeared. It was later clarified that he had been threatened by Malcolm, who possessed forged Clovin credentials, and after being intimidated and frightened, he fled to Delin County to hide.
He was later found by Clovin agents from the Third Bureau.
After his teaching assistant could not find Professor Vanason's whereabouts, he went to Professor Jeffrey's residence, discovered Professor Jeffrey's corpse, and reported it to the Ministry of Internal Affairs police.
The fifth: <Investigation Report on the Participation of the Taylor Family, Nobles from the Former Kingdom Period, in Extraordinary Events>.
Sacia Taylor, a freshman in the History Department at Imperial Industrial University, had high popularity at the university and was one of the students who accompanied Jeffrey on his Southern Continent expedition six months ago.
Behind her, she controlled the Taylor Family's overseas funds, injecting capital to support Jeffrey's Southern Continent expedition.
She had a cooperative relationship with the illegal Imperial organization, the Order of Hidden Cultivation, and was heavily involved in the subsequent malignant psionic out-of-control events.
Her purpose was perhaps to hope to use the extraordinary power of the spirit realm to threaten the Empire.
Her father, "Muzov Taylor," had deployed a large amount of assets in the Imperial capital a year ago, acting as the financial backer behind this incident, and arranged for his subordinate, Elliott, to rent 35 Elysée Avenue in the South River District as a hideout for the Order of Hidden Cultivation group.
Currently, all relevant members of the Taylor Family, except for Sacia Taylor, are on the run...
Note: Sacia Taylor has been affected by the malignant psionic out-of-control event and has gone insane!
The sixth, the thickness of the document material had significantly increased: <Preliminary Investigation Report on the Malignant Psionic Out-of-Control and Spirit Realm Entity Descent Event at 35 Elysée Avenue, South River District, Xiting City>.
This was the core of the entire file box.
But just seeing this title, Andrich's hands trembled slightly... his gaze fixed on this line of text.
At the same time, he was struggling to maintain his composure so as not to collapse. As the Chairman of Clovin, he knew very well what terrifying consequences malignant psionic out-of-control could cause.
He also understood even better that the terror of a spirit realm entity descending was hundreds of times greater than that of malignant psionic out-of-control.
He took a deep breath, and only after steadying his hands to hold the report did he open it to read carefully.
The content of this report described how four senior investigators from the Ninth Bureau, led by Damon Marco as the team commander, led a large number of Clovin agents to raid an activity stronghold of the illegal Imperial organization, the "Order of Hidden Cultivation."
It recorded in detail that there was a High Priest of the Order of Hidden Cultivation at the stronghold, who was a senior member and person in charge in the region. At the same time, the other party was presiding over a ritual to communicate with and summon a spirit realm entity. When the Clovin members raided and broke in, the ritual had already begun.
Subsequently, the other party used their own spirituality as fuel to forcibly accelerate the ritual and established a connection with the spirit realm. Under the circumstances where Clovin did not dare to act rashly to stop it, the "White-Gold Humanoid Spirit Entity" descent event occurred.
The report described in detail the characteristics, behavior, and the final process of the entity silently dissipating.
The report's conclusion admitted that this operation by the Ninth Bureau of Clovin failed to prevent the entity's descent, one key person at the scene died and another went insane, the remnants of the Order of Hidden Cultivation knew limited information, the nature of the incident was extremely serious, and there were a large number of unsolved mysteries.
Andrich's gaze lingered for a long time on the words "Spirit Realm Entity Descent" and "Order of Hidden Cultivation," his knuckles tapping lightly on the desk, making a dull sound.
