Background / History

Early life and entertainment career

Shuya is a transmigrator and reincarnator who began pursuing fame while still very young. He became a media darling through commercials, television appearances, awards, and his unusually mature speech and behavior; by the time of his endorsement work, he had already spent five years as a child star. His popularity in Great Hua earned him the nickname “Nation's Son.” 1 5 6 9

His parents, Inoue Hikoo and Hanazawa Sakura, work in entertainment. Although Shuya is exasperated by Hikoo's reckless spending and recurring financial trouble, he repeatedly supports the family through his own earnings and professional ability. He also uses his income to care for Rena and the Quintuplets next door. 6 16 22 140

Shuya built a career across acting, voice acting, advertising, and modeling. He voiced Uesugi Yuichi in Alien Baby Hikari-chan, helped establish Sakurajima Mai's career by recommending her for a Morning Drama, and later portrayed Ikeda Ichinosuke in Art Academy. 4 15 17 130

Martial training and the Fox God's curse

Li Shuhong agreed to mentor Shuya for one month in the martial arts of Ikeda Ichinosuke. Shuya rapidly developed qi, learned the Northland New Snow Thousand-Fold Style, received First Snow, and began studying talismans and Strange Arts. 45 47 52 57

His concern for Rena initially appeared to be an unwavering romantic fixation. After investigating the Small Island's Fox God, Shuya learned that the Fox God's Charm Art had influenced his attraction and distorted his emotions. Rena's curse and declining condition nevertheless became his central motivation to seek power and a cure. 171 173 276

Rise of the Monster Alliance

When conventional and supernatural contacts failed to resolve Rena's curse, Shuya began hunting Monsters for Demon Power while avoiding unnecessary killing. His forces eventually subdued Kanto, defeated Kansai's major Monster factions, and established the Japan Monster Alliance under his leadership. 181 205 224

As Alliance Leader, Shuya used his celebrity influence and strategic ruthlessness to consolidate Monster Domains, gather Power of Will, and build an organization capable of challenging shrine factions and the Supernatural Bureau. 224 228 232

War against the deities

Shuya escalated his campaign into a war against the deities after learning of Amaterasu's hostility toward holders of powerful physiques, including Ikeda Ichinosuke. He allied with Great Heavenly God Tenman, subjugated or defeated multiple shrine factions, and accumulated Godheads to complete the Five Elements cycle. 245 263 274

During the battle in Takamagahara, Shuya overcame Amaterasu after realizing that his human body was the missing earth element in his cultivation. He killed Amaterasu with Li Shuhong's intervention, but Li later scattered Shuya's power; Shuya required a prolonged recovery afterward. 274 278

Appearance

As a high-school student, Shuya is over 1.8 meters tall with a lean but muscular physique. Cultivation refined his appearance from childhood onward, giving him unusually fair skin, bright eyes, and a polished, ethereal presence. 48 278

  • Ink-black hair, sword-like brows, and star-like eyes. 48 278
  • Cultivation enhanced his senses, physique, skin, and overall appearance. 48
  • Has a conspicuous public presence that makes concealment difficult without Strange Arts. 110 140
  • His Ghost God Body resembles his adult previous-life self, appearing around twenty-three or twenty-four years old. 204
  • In Vermilion Bird form, he wears crimson-and-gold samurai attire and manifests divine and demonic flame wings. 220

Personality

Shuya is self-aware, vain about his appearance, and comfortable leveraging his fame. He can perform charm, innocence, and professionalism on command, whether dealing with fans, industry veterans, or suspicious officials. 6 12 228

Behind that polished persona, he is calculating and often lazy about matters that do not interest him. He prefers indirect solutions, manipulation, and tactical retreats over prideful losses; when Shizuka's Heavenly Demon Body nullified his elemental advantage, he used a talisman smoke screen and fled. 110 466

He is deeply protective of people he considers his own, particularly Rena, the Quintuplets, his parents, and his close companions. That protectiveness can turn ruthless when they are threatened, and his fixation on Rena became increasingly unstable under the effects of Charm Art. 22 107 162 171

Shuya is also unusually direct about emotional uncertainty. After confronting the Charm Art's effects, he recognized that his feelings for Rena, Haruno, and Tsuruko were more complicated than he had admitted. 171 251

Abilities & Skills

Natural Martial Bone and qi cultivation

Shuya possesses the Natural Martial Bone, an exceptional constitution with immense physical potential. Combined with unusually powerful intent, conviction, medicinal resources, and combat training, it allows him to cultivate at an abnormal rate. 47 109

  • Qi reinforces his strength, endurance, speed, flexibility, senses, and recovery. 48 49
  • Can diffuse qi throughout his body for full-body enhancement or compress it for greater destructive force. 49
  • His qi has progressed from a flowing-water state to a steel-like refinement. 52 181
  • Completed the Five Elements cycle, granting comprehensive physical enhancement without the elemental weaknesses of deity or monster cultivation. 274
  • Limit: Shuya acknowledges that martial ability alone does not make him immune to modern weapons such as bullets. 49

Northland New Snow Thousand-Fold Style

Shuya inherited and refined Ikeda Ichinosuke's sword school under Li Shuhong. The style specializes in elegant but lethal ice-based swordsmanship. 45 50 127

  • Hazy Moon Night — Uses mist and concealment to erase his presence before attacking. 109
  • Rolling Snow Force — Borrows force through repeated clashes, building power with every exchange. 110
  • Avalanche / Ice Explosion — High-output ice techniques that can be altered or detonated when their original form is countered. 110
  • Thousand-String Flower — Compresses and releases blade light in a spreading, flower-like attack. 243
  • Ghost God Avalanche — An improved version used to defeat Otake-maru. 205
  • Can integrate ice, water, and other elemental qi into the style. 84 181

Strange Arts and talismans

Shuya can wield Power of Will and has learned talisman techniques, though he considers his technical aptitude for Strange Arts less remarkable than his martial talent. 52 155

  • Mist Art — A Black Tortoise water talisman that creates dense fog, allowing him to conceal his movements while sensing within it. 109
  • Presence-reduction talisman — Makes observers subconsciously treat him as ordinary, allowing him to travel unnoticed. 140
  • Vermilion Bird Fire Talisman — His most significant talisman, used as a relay to seize Vermilion Bird authority rather than directly forming a conventional divinity. 218
  • Limit: His ordinary talismans are of limited use against powerful opponents. 181

Ghost God Body and Godheads

Shuya's Ghost God Body is born from the coexistence of his child and adult souls. It channels both Power of Faith and Power of Awe, allowing him to manifest as both deity and monster. 203 204

  • Commands Divine Power and Demon Power simultaneously. 219 220
  • Developed a Divine Heart containing Heart Fire, which burns away hostile will and produces Divine Blood and Demon Blood. 219
  • Formed Vermilion Bird and Black Tortoise deity and monster incarnations. 239
  • The Black Tortoise can defend, manipulate water, and obscure fate linked to Shuya. 235 237
  • Limit: Following the battle with Amaterasu, Li Shuhong scattered Shuya's power; Shuya later describes his Ghost God Body as sealed and usable only briefly. 278 544

Leadership and strategy

Shuya commands the Japan Monster Alliance despite often delegating routine administration to subordinates such as Tamamo Ren. 224 466

  • Uses popularity, Power of Faith, and public image to control negotiations and disarm hostile officials. 228
  • Employs feints, staged incidents, ambushes, artillery, and strategic retreats rather than relying solely on direct force. 110 237 269
  • Led Monster and deity forces in campaigns against shrine factions and Amaterasu's army. 264 269

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • First Snow / Hatsuyuki — A sentient ice-blue tachi gifted by Li Shuhong. It accepts Shuya's qi readily, later evolves into a divine or ghost-god artifact, and can be stored within his body as will. 52 53 220 239
  • Black sword bag — A birthday gift from Mai, used to carry First Snow discreetly. 53
  • Talismans — Includes Black Tortoise mist and presence-reduction talismans, as well as the Vermilion Bird Fire Talisman. 109 140 218
  • Rena-shaped humanoid curse — A curse extracted from his body and temporarily wielded as an improvised chained weapon. 494 495

Relationships

  • Rena — Neighbor, mother of the Quintuplets, and the focus of Shuya's earliest romantic fixation. His feelings were influenced by the Fox God's Charm Art, but he continues seeking a way to save her and eventually confesses to her. 45 173 276 278
  • The Quintuplets — Rena's daughters and Shuya's neighbors. He supports them financially, acts as a caring older-brother/father figure, and remains emotionally tied to their family. 6 8 22
  • Inoue Hikoo — Shuya's father, an irresponsible but talented director and voice actor. Their relationship is affectionate, combative, and frequently strained by Hikoo's financial failures. 4 16 140

  • Sakurajima Mai — Longtime friend, acting colleague, and early beneficiary of Shuya's industry support. Their relationship gradually becomes romantic, though Mai insists Shuya address his unresolved history with Rena and the Quintuplets. 15 45 500 503
  • Yukinoshita Yukino — Classmate and supernatural ally who inherited Snow Woman power. She challenges Shuya's avoidance of Rena's condition and shares a close, teasing relationship with him. 148 249 415
  • Yukinoshita HarunoYukino's older sister and Shuya's partner. Their bond is built on mutual amusement, scheming, and a willingness to provoke each other. 179 251 502
  • Aoyama Tsuruko — Shinmeiryu swordswoman, combat ally, and Shuya's partner. She is one of his most reliable supporters in battle and emotional crises. 154 251 502

  • Sonoo Hyakka — Voice actress and confidante who relates to Shuya through their similar industry backgrounds. Their relationship is described as close but initially non-romantic. 158 161
  • Tamamo Ren — Loyal Monster subordinate who manages much of the Alliance's business and operational affairs. 203 466
