Background & History
When Yukino was five, she returned from a family trip near Asahikawa with an abrupt, abnormal fever. She had unknowingly merged with the Snow Woman's residual Power of Will, a power drawn to her unusual ice-compatible constitution. In the years afterward, her body temperature fell, nearby temperatures changed with her emotions, and objects she touched could frost over; she concealed these symptoms because she believed she could manage them herself. 147 150 151
Yukino first meets Shuya at school after both find their indoor shoes missing from adjacent lockers. Initially cold and guarded, she nevertheless agrees to show him around the school and gradually grows closer to him through their shared connection to Haruno and the Snow Woman's legacy. 145 149
First Snow provokes a dangerous awakening on the school rooftop: Yukino's Snow Woman power manifests as an icy blizzard and phantom, revealing that her assimilation is accelerating. Shuya takes her to Kyoto, where Tsuruko Aoyama separates the residual power rather than allowing Yukino to become the Snow Woman without a mature decision. 150 151 152
After learning that the Snow Woman had sacrificed herself after Ikeda Ichinosuke's death, Yukino chooses to inherit the crystallized legacy. She regards the inheritance as both a duty to its former owner and a way to repay Shuya for saving her. 153
Yukino trains under Shuya and Tsuruko, later joining Shuya in Monster-hunting operations. Her Snow Woman Gem evolves after absorbing scattered Power of Will, greatly increasing her combat potential. 154 155 183 238 240
After reaching a bottleneck in Strange Arts, Yukino studies and fights across several regions, including the Russian Administrative District, where she develops a close-combat-oriented fighting style. In later worldline battles, she becomes a Monster to survive and continue fighting against demonic forces. 327 549
Appearance
Yukino is initially described as a cute girl with long, straight black hair and dark eyes. Her appearance changes dramatically when she invokes the Snow Woman Gem or her full Monster power. 145 240 549
- Ordinary / demi-human form — Long black hair and dark eyes; her presence can carry an unnatural chill. 145 147 549
- Snow Woman Gem form — White kimono, nearly translucent pale skin, white hair, and black eyes tinted blue; her demeanor becomes markedly colder and more aloof. 240
- Later battle form — An adult appearance with an ice-blue-haired, snow-white-kimono form used in major supernatural battles. 362
- Battle damage — Her kimono can be burned or torn in combat, but her wounds and clothing recover as her Monster body regenerates. 548 549
Personality
Yukino is calm, formal, and highly self-reliant. Even while her identity was being threatened by the Snow Woman's assimilation, she maintained that she could handle the problem herself. Her composure can conceal considerable fear and emotional turmoil. 151 319
She possesses a strong sense of responsibility. Rather than treating the Snow Woman's inheritance as a burden, Yukino accepts it as an obligation to a predecessor who fought for humanity. She later urges Shuya not to abandon hope of saving Rena, showing the same resolve in others that she demands of herself. 153 183
Despite her detached exterior, Yukino is sharp-tongued, easily irritated by Shuya's provocations, and openly hostile toward manipulation. She values sincerity and refuses to be treated as amusement. 318 416
Yukino has a private soft spot for cats. Her usual reserve disappears when she is around kittens, and she strongly dislikes having this side of herself exposed. 317
