Background / History

As a child, Shirou witnessed his parents' murder and became entangled in the Fourth Holy Grail War. He bore Command Spells and learned the basic meaning of their authority from Caster. Wang Xiaoming sought to keep him away from further bloodshed. 6

Caster later assessed Shirou's aptitude for magecraft: he possesses 23 Magic Circuits and an affinity for the Sword element. He learns quickly under her instruction, in contrast to Wang Xiaoming's far lower aptitude. 8

Shirou agreed to the transfer of his Command Spell when Wang Xiaoming and Medea discussed it. 26 Matou Kariya viewed him as unusually kind and naturally inclined to help others, while worrying that these traits could be exploited. 36

Personality

Shirou is compassionate, earnest, and instinctively protective of others. Even as a child, he compliments Sakura openly and retains his integrity despite the trauma he has endured. 36

He tends toward reckless action when someone may be in danger. He investigates suspicious activity aboard the Rail Zeppelin despite recognizing that he should return to safety, and later accepts Lord El-Melloi II's warning that he had endangered himself unnecessarily. 240 246

His protectiveness is paired with practical judgment in battle. Against the Child of the Forest of Einnashe, he chooses retreat when necessary and prioritizes the safety of his allies, but ultimately resolves to face the enemy himself to protect Olga-Marie. 260 261

Rail Zeppelin Incident

While searching the Rail Zeppelin for Lily and Hishiri Adashino, Shirou discovers a recently used Servant-summoning circle. His investigation brings him into conflict with Hephaestion, who overwhelms and severely wounds him. 240 241

Shirou's blood activates the summoning circle, allowing Mordred to manifest and defeat Hephaestion. He wakes to learn that he has been chosen as a Master in a new Holy Grail War. 241 242

Child of the Forest of Einnashe Battle

Shirou fights alongside Gray and Father Kabbalah against the Child of the Forest of Einnashe. He chooses to withdraw when necessary, then later confronts the Dead Apostle directly after Olga-Marie's Greater Magecraft fails to destroy it. 260 261

By forging a blade through his Projection Magecraft, Shirou unleashes Sword Pulse against the creature despite severe physical strain. 261

Fuyuki Singularity
