Background / History
Wang Xiaoming is a transmigrator who has spent twenty-three years in Japan. Most of his memories of his previous life are sealed; encountering people and events connected to those memories can unlock fragments, but doing so causes severe headaches and damages his mental state. The recovered memories also gradually repair cracks in his soul. 1 6 9 13
Before becoming involved in magecraft, he works as a reporter whose unusual headlines and writing style repeatedly anger his superiors. Assigned to investigate a serial-murder case partly to remove him from the office, he gives Ryunosuke Uryu a ride without knowing that Uryu is the killer behind the case. 1 2
He retains a strong connection to his Chinese heritage and especially enjoys spicy food, becoming a regular customer of Mr. Ba's Sichuan restaurant. 2 34 35
Appearance
Wang Xiaoming is later shown to have a lean, well-trained physique despite his normally lazy presentation. 176
- A deep-purple magical crest was once etched over his chest by Medea; it stored magical energy, protected his life in a crisis, and later allowed him to enter the sealed altar in Colchis. 85 101 268
- The crest is eventually removed by Medea and condensed into a Mana Crystal. 268
- When releasing Hector's Spirit Origin, he gives off an aura recognizable to Trojan Heroic Spirits. 181 283
Personality
Wang Xiaoming initially considers himself an ordinary, underachieving transmigrator and often responds to danger with sarcasm, self-deprecation, or a desire to avoid trouble. He calls his own reluctance the struggle of a “salted fish,” yet he repeatedly acts when others need help. 1 8 31
He is practical rather than heroic. He does not seek to be a savior, but he takes responsibility for the consequences of his interventions—particularly Sakura and Shirou's safety—and refuses to accept outcomes he considers cruel or unjust. 25 31 37
As his power grows, Wang becomes a calm and strategic fighter. He tests opponents to learn Hector's combat instincts, conceals his strongest abilities until necessary, and remains composed even when facing Servants or high-ranking magi. 106 156 170

Story Role / Major Arcs
Fourth Holy Grail War
Wang's investigation into the serial murders brings him into contact with Ryunosuke Uryu, Shirou, and Medea. He becomes Medea's student and later her Master, forming an alliance with Kayneth while attempting to protect Shirou and Sakura from the war's collateral damage. 1 6 18 26 37
When Ryunosuke escapes prison and targets him again, Wang confronts the killer despite losing an arm in the battle. He uses Medea's magecraft and Mystic Codes to survive until Ryunosuke is defeated. 60 92 93 94
After the corrupted Holy Grail is destroyed, Wang and Medea confirm their feelings. Medea disappears, and Wang resolves to gain enough strength to find her again. 98
Colchis and the Hector Inheritance
Medea's crest leads Wang into a sealed Hecate temple in Colchis, where he meets Circe. Circe creates his Magic Circuits, while the ritual unexpectedly connects him to Hector and the Throne of Heroes. 102 103
In a ruined Fuyuki, Wang tests his new abilities against Lancer Medusa. By using her as a sparring partner, he adapts to Hector's Saint Graph, defeats her, and later receives further reinforcement through her absorbed spirit particles. 105 106 107
Pursuit of Medea
Circe reveals that Fuyuki's Grail is corrupted and cannot restore Medea. She directs Wang toward a parallel world whose uncorrupted Grail could fulfill his wish, giving him Medea's former wand for the coming conflict. 119 120
Wang subsequently summons Lily, a younger Medea, and enters the Great Holy Grail War. 124 148
Great Holy Grail War
Wang demonstrates Servant-level combat ability against Black Rider, later uses Cybele to escape the Red Faction, and helps defeat Avicebron's Adam by cutting its mana supply. 156 170 174
He assumes responsibility for the instability caused by his summons, including Berserker Penthesilea, while continuing to protect Lily, Jack, and the Black Faction's civilians. 180 182 183
Later Conflicts
Wang defeats Souren Araya with Cybele while protecting Fujou, supports Touko after her confrontation with Cornelius Alba, and becomes a figure feared within Clock Tower politics due to his power and placement on the Sealing Designation list. 117 211 226
During the conflict against Artemis and the Olympian gods, Paris identifies Wang as the Holy Grail. Wang apologizes to the Servants fighting beside him, showing that he still treats leadership as a burden rather than a privilege. 296
