"Your arrogance will become the reins that hang you, Primarch." The Plague Demon roared. With the motion, maggots fell from its mouth and crawled across the ground in search of flesh.
The Nurglings inside the Daemon also clumsily imitated it and let out roars.
Plaguebearers and Plague Guard emerged from behind the roaring Plague Demon, reinforcing the enemy's precarious defensive line.
Those traitors had nearly sacrificed all life on the planet, using the Warp power stirred by the dead to tear open reality, opening a breach into the Warp and summoning a Daemon army.
"Today is your day of death, Daemon. I will have your subordinates carry your head back and use it to announce my return to the Chaos Gods behind you."
Guilliman broke into a run, his heavy body making the fungus-covered earth tremble slightly.
The flames rising from the Emperor's Sword in his hand grew ever more dazzling.
"Protect the Primarch!" the veterans of the Honor Guard shouted as they charged alongside Guilliman.
They feared nothing. Even facing Daemons, they did not flinch.
"Kill him and offer his soul to great Grandfather!" Gurlo raised his rusted plague battle-axe and pointed it at the charging Primarch, ordering the Cultists and remaining Plague Warriors to attack.
The Daemons also joined the traitors in launching a counterattack against the Imperium Loyalists.
Rust-Blight Demons, Wither Demons, and countless other Daemons of Nurgle poured from the wound torn into reality like suppurating blood.
If left unchecked, this planet would soon be completely transformed into a Daemon world and become part of the Garden of Nurgle.
Guilliman would never allow that to happen. He would banish this Daemon, restore peace to this world, and incidentally burn the leader of the rebels to ashes.
With one slash, he cut down a Daemon that tried to attack him, using the Emperor's Sword to burn its soul away completely.
The Honor Guard gathered around their master, using their terrifying firepower to clear away the swarming enemies for the Primarch.
They could not destroy Daemons completely. They could only shatter their physical bodies and banish them back into the Warp.
The Nurgle Daemon looked down at the lesser Daemons attacking Guilliman and the others and smiled faintly, yet did not act personally.
It was waiting for the link between the Warp and realspace to be reinforced. Then it could draw upon Grandfather's power to the fullest and bring even more Daemons into the material universe.
"Hold back the other Daemons and traitors for me. I'm going to kill that damned leader of the Daemons." Guilliman issued orders over the comms, commanding the nearby Space Marines to intensify their assault and pin down the enemy so he could deal with the Nurgle Daemon and the traitors' leader.
"Understood, my lord. I will attack from the flank. The Titans will crush them." Sicarius replied to his lord. They were advancing behind the Titans and would soon reach the Tower of Flesh.
"Understood, my lord," Phicris said over the comms.
"Understood." The Chief Librarian of the Dawn Star Chapter also answered the Gene-Father's command.
The Dawn Star Chapter was a successor Chapter of the Ultramarines, and among the first warriors to answer their Parent Chapter after Macragge came under attack.
Many Ultramarines successor Chapters recruited in Ultramar, and their loyalty to Guilliman far surpassed that of other Chapters.
The Imperium Loyalists quickly formed a battlefield centered around Guilliman and launched a fierce attack against the Daemons' and traitors' lines.
To Guilliman's right, Space Marines advanced behind two heavy Leman Russ Tanks. As one of the oldest Heavy Tank models in Imperial service, the Leman Russ Tank naturally ranked among the Imperium's most formidable armored vehicles.
They rumbled forward, clearing rubble and flattening the road while unleashing volleys of Bolters, shells, and laser beams. The Plague Warrior Daemons guarding the enemy's left flank fought back desperately.
But their sparse numbers could not withstand the Loyalists' terrifying firepower. Countless enemies had their bodies torn apart, limbs blasted away, and fell across the battlefield.
To Guilliman's right, two Redemptor Dreadnoughts advanced. Their servo-motors hissed, and their piston assemblies roared furiously with every step.
The Assault Cannons in their hands shrieked as they spat streams of fire at Plague Warriors and Daemons. Their Macro Plasma Incinerators grew scorching hot with repeated firing, venting hissing steam.
"For the Lord of Ultramar!" The Chief Librarian of the Dawn Star Chapter roared beneath the fierce fire cover of the Dreadnoughts. The Force Staff in his hand crackled, and violent Psykers power burst from his body.
His projection within the Warp became increasingly brilliant. Faith granted him strength, allowing him to wield even more violent Psykers power.
A blazing torrent of fire erupted forth. The psychic shockwave leaped over the ruins, flinging aside every Daemon and traitor in its path as their rotten, nauseating bodies ignited in undying psychic flames.
Burning Plague Warriors rolled out from behind makeshift barricades, raising their Bolters in an attempt to kill the Psyker.
The Chief Librarian seized one with the force of his will and crushed its body, hurling the mangled remains into two other burning Plague Warriors and knocking them to the ground.
But the Plague Warriors and Daemons did not give up. They tried to join forces and force back the Imperium's ferocious assault.
Disease-ridden shells poured forth, killing several loyal Imperial warriors and turning them into foul-smelling pus.
Large numbers of Daemons chose to parasitize the Plague Warriors, lending them their strength and making them even more powerful.
Just as both sides fought in a bloody melee, a thunderous sound rang out. An Emperor-class Titan arrived with heavy steps, its plasma cannon annihilating every enemy in its path like divine punishment.
Even Plague Warriors parasitized by Daemons were no match for an Emperor-class Titan. Those that failed to evade it were crushed beneath its feet.
Like bursting meatballs, they vanished with a wet pop.
Even those who could dodge had no way to survive the Titan's terrifying firepower.
"For the Lord of Ultramar!" Sicarius's voice rang out as they arrived from the flank behind the Emperor-class Titan.
With the help of many warriors, a breach was opened.
Guilliman's Hand of Dominion smashed apart a Daemon's head, and he then strode unhindered toward the Tower of Flesh.
"Now it's time to settle our score, Daemon."
"You are far more hateful than Mortarion. At least he listens to Grandfather and feels the entropy of life throughout the universe, feels their withering and rebirth." The Nurgle Daemon raised its weapon and strode toward the Primarch as well.
The Nurgle Daemon knew very well that only it was qualified to fight a Primarch. Lesser Daemons facing a Primarch were merely throwing away their lives to delay him.
The Nurgle Daemon attacked first. Its weapon cleaved toward Guilliman, only to be effortlessly blocked by the Emperor's Sword in Guilliman's hand.
"Mortarion is an utter fool. He was stupid enough to submit at your feet. Look at you—joining The Changer would have been ten thousand times better than serving your idiotic Grandfather. Your Grandfather is weak and useless, the worst of all the gods."
"I will not fall for your trick. You are trying to provoke me with words," the Nurgle Daemon said.
"But you didn't deny it, did you? That means you also think your Grandfather is weak and useless." Guilliman leaped forward and slashed at it, but the Nurgle Daemon dodged with agility utterly unsuited to its bloated body.
"I do not," the Nurgle Daemon said angrily.
"Then why didn't you deny it? Why are you dwelling on whether I'm provoking you? Mortarion is the most worthless among us. My father disliked him, and the Primarchs hated him too, because he was too stupid and utterly useless. His own subordinates took his authority from him, and he was even sold off to you. Such stupidity would be unimaginable in any other Primarch, yet your father gladly accepted him. That proves your father is worthless. He prefers accepting worthless things, and you are also a..."
Guilliman mocked it casually as his attacks grew ever fiercer. The union of Primarch power and Dominion Power made him incomparably powerful.
Even a great Daemon of Nurgle at the level of a Great Unclean One struggled to withstand his assault.
"Utterly worthless Daemon."
"I'll kill you!" the Nurgle Daemon roared. Guilliman's words had driven it into a fury.
"But you can't." Seeing the Nurgle Daemon nearly lose control from his taunts, Guilliman smiled. "Looking at how stupid you are, I suddenly don't want to kill you. Daemons can never be killed off completely. Whether I kill you or not makes little difference. I've decided. I will carve the words 'worthless' onto your body, then banish you back. And while I'm at it, I'll give Mortarion a message: I will come for him."
Five updates today, brothers. Keep reading and don't let this die.
