Background / History
Squad captain
Kailun leads a squad of World Lord combatants operating on the outskirts of the Third Outer-Region Battlefield. He welcomes Qin Cang—using the identity Cao Benqi—into the group, personally introduces the members, and hosts a celebration at his own expense. His squad includes illusionist Lan Ying, frontline fighter Lie Feng, beast tamer Kuin, and Gu Shi. 32
Although an Immortal, Kailun is only average among Immortal Military Lords. He specializes in Wind Law and uses a spear, making him exceptionally quick for his rank; his speed can rival that of a weaker Marquis-level Immortal. 32 53
For nearly a century, Kailun leads the squad in comparatively safe hunts against weaker World Lord teams on the Ice Sand Snow Plain. He favors steady gains over riskier battles with Immortals, assigning clear roles during ambushes and prioritizing the squad's survival. 35 39
When a distress signal lures the squad toward the Sky Wolf Skolls, Kailun initially considers retreating rather than gambling their lives for a reward. Qin Cang ultimately confronts Skolls, while Kailun and the team rescue the surviving World Lords. After Skolls broadcasts their location, Kailun accepts Qin Cang's recommendation to withdraw to Barracks Base 001. 41 43
Discovery of the Machine Race pyramid
Roughly twenty thousand years before the expedition, Kailun entered the Star Sea Region alone during his third tour in the Outer-Region Battlefield. He witnessed a major battle from afar, returned more than a decade later to search for salvage, and instead discovered an undetectable pyramid hidden beneath the sea. 48 59
Unable to breach the pyramid himself, Kailun left a Divine Power Coordinate at the site and repeatedly returned over the years. He concluded that it was a Machine Race legacy left by a powerful combatant, likely near the peak Marquis level, and eventually decided that a Fire God Source Crystal could force open its entrance. 48
After Qin Cang seeks to leave the squad for more intense combat, Kailun proposes a partnership to explore the site. He accepts Qin Cang's condition of priority in selecting one treasure, trusting Qin Cang's claimed ability to ensure their survival. 39 40
Pyramid expedition
Kailun accepts reward money from the rescued Immortal Delis as a loan, keeping 100,000 Hunyuan Units to purchase the Fire God Source Crystal needed for the expedition. 44
He refuses to exclude his longtime teammates from the operation despite their weaker strength. Following Qin Cang's plan, Kailun brings them through the first layer of the site, intending to place them in a space ring before proceeding into greater dangers. 48
At the hidden island in the Star Sea Region, Kailun guides Qin Cang through the underwater entrance and into a folded space containing a golden pyramid made from Mystic Sun Gold Soul. He detonates the Fire God Source Crystal at the gate, opening a passage into the structure. 50 51
Inside, Kailun fights Machine Race puppets beside Qin Cang and obeys Qin Cang's withdrawal order before a second Fire God Source Crystal destroys most of the puppet army. He eagerly gathers the resulting metal fragments, which he considers a major windfall. 53 54 55
The pyramid's second trial releases flames that burn divine power. Qin Cang stores Kailun in a space ring to limit the damage and evacuates him from the structure. Kailun loses 20% of his Divine Body, while his armored mechanical lifeform Xiao Ke loses more than 90% of its Divine Body and falls dormant. 56 57
After recovering outside the pyramid, Kailun urges Qin Cang to abandon the treasure hunt and prioritize survival. Qin Cang instead continues alone, while Kailun leaves with the metal and puppet salvage he collected. 57
Personality
Kailun is cautious, practical, and highly conscious of the risks of the Outer-Region Battlefield. He weighs profit against survival before accepting missions, avoids unnecessary confrontations with stronger opponents, and repeatedly teaches his subordinates that wealth is meaningless if they die obtaining it. 40 41 49 57
Despite being described as timid, he is a considerate and fair captain. He does not claim an extra share of spoils because he is an Immortal, worries about bringing weaker teammates into dangerous situations, and seeks ways for them to gain from the Machine Race expedition rather than leaving them behind. 39 48
Kailun is also fond of fine wine and has fostered a drinking culture within his squad. His enthusiasm for collecting valuable scraps and salvaged metal reflects the resource pressures faced by a lower-ranking Immortal. 33 55
