Background / History
The Human, Demon, Bug, and Machine Races have adjacent territories, resulting in continual conflict. The four races ultimately established the Outer-Region Battlefield as the central arena for these wars. 24
For World Lords of the Virtual Universe Company's Core Secret Regions, entering either the Outer-Region Battlefield or a Universe Secret Region is a required stage of venturing out. The battlefield is considered the more controllable option: it offers repeated combat against alien powerhouses, opportunities to temper willpower, and a setting for creating secret techniques. 22 23
Despite its high casualty rate, the battlefield draws combatants from the four major races, their affiliates, and other factions because military merit can be exchanged for rare resources, weapons, ships, secret techniques, and inheritances. It is described as the universe's foremost producer of Immortals and Universe Venerables. 33 55
Organization and Rules
Battlefields
Nine major Outer-Region Battlefields are open. They are located outside Human Race territory and serve as large-scale war zones for competing racial camps. 31
| Battlefield | Known details |
|---|---|
| Third Outer-Region Battlefield | A Universe Secret Region with a maximum diameter of roughly 980,000 light-years. Its original environmental hazards have been largely worn down by hundreds of millions of years of warfare; alien combatants are now its primary danger. 31 |
| Third Battlefield mortality rate | 95.2%, ranking sixth among the nine battlefields. 31 |
| Third Battlefield bases | Contains 100 military bases, including Base 001. 31 |
Entry and Military Authority
Lone soldiers entering through Human Race logistics bases are sorted by cultivation level before being assigned military authority. Authority determines rank and command status, and is based on the individual's strength. 30
| Rank | Description |
|---|---|
| Ordinary World Lord Warrior | A lower World Lord authorization; such combatants more commonly enter as part of organized armies or Immortal-led legions. 31 |
| Elite World Lord Warrior | The usual rank among lone World Lords who voluntarily enter the battlefield. 31 |
| World Lord General | A rare, higher-status authorization granted to exceptionally strong World Lords. Qin Cang received this rank upon entering the Third Battlefield. 31 |
Military Merit System
Military merit is awarded for killing enemy combatants and can be exchanged through each camp's military treasury. The Virtual Universe records and verifies battlefield activity in real time, preventing fraudulent claims. 33
- The four major races place portions of their core resources into their military-merit treasuries. 33
- Exchangeable rewards can include ships, weapons, rare secret techniques, and restricted racial resources such as the Machine Race's Evolution Heart. 33
- Alien fighters may access these exchanges if they earn sufficient military merit. 33
- Allied rescues require payment; intervening squads receive compensation if they successfully save the distressed party. 40
Power Restrictions
The battlefield's rules limit the strength of those permitted to fight there, preventing overwhelmingly powerful individuals from turning the conflict into a one-sided massacre. 23 33
- The highest regular combatants are King-level limit experts. 33
- Invincible King-level Immortals may not enter except during special campaigns. 23 33
- Special lifeforms with exceptionally high life-gene levels are prohibited; discovered entrants may be expelled or killed by the four major races. 33
- Soul enslavement is a major threat, particularly from Bug Race Mother Emperors, whose methods directly target soul-based weaknesses. 24
Infrastructure
Human Race Logistics Bases
The Human Race operates eight major logistics bases within its own territory, each serving as a fixed transit point to the Outer-Region Battlefield. Giant God Planet is one such base and the closest departure point to Qin Cang. 30
- Giant God Planet — an artificial planet and war fortress with a diameter of 1.09 million kilometers, responsible for protecting teleportation channels. It is reportedly guarded by a Universe Venerable. 30
- Lone troops can be gathered at these bases and sent through spatial passages to their assigned battlefield. 30 31
Barracks Bases
Barracks Bases function as secure military hubs within the battlefields. Base 001 is the Human Race destination for troops entering the Third Battlefield. 31
- A Barracks Base is considered absolute safety within the Outer-Region Battlefield; no race dares attack the bases of the four pinnacle races. 46
- The bases possess immense energy shields, solidified law-secret-pattern defenses, mechanical cannon emplacements, docking channels, and energy nodes. 46
- A base millions of kilometers wide is considered effectively unassailable by anyone below Universe Overlord level; even a Universe Overlord would pay a heavy price to destroy one. 46
- Their internally expanded spaces contain public halls and entertainment facilities for returning soldiers. 46
Notable Regions
| Region | Description |
|---|---|
| Ice Sand Snow Plain | A 30-billion-kilometer-wide frozen landmass used as a hunting ground by World Lords and Immortals. Its relatively limited scale makes it suitable for lower-risk squad operations. 34 35 |
| Lake 2921 | Site of Qin Cang's battle with Skolls, a peak Immortal Military Lord of the Sky Wolf Race. 41 43 |
| Star Sea Region | A dangerous sea region over three light-years in diameter, containing countless islands, unusual terrain, aquatic life, and frequent clashes between powerful experts. 49 58 |
| Ancient Wood Abyss | A nearby King-level battlefield with greater resources and treasures than the Star Sea Region. Its presence causes many Marquises to use the Star Sea Region as a hunting ground. 48 49 |
| Island TX89922 | A more than ten-million-kilometer-wide island expanded and controlled by Yar, who used it as the base of his Demon Race faction. 76 |
Story Role / Major Arcs
- Selection as Qin Cang's venture destination — Blood Blade King advises Qin Cang to choose the Outer-Region Battlefield over Universe Secret Regions because its danger is more controllable and its battles better suit the refinement of his techniques. Qin Cang accepts this advice. 23 24
- Entry into the Third Battlefield — Qin Cang departs through Giant God Planet, undergoes the authority-granting ceremony, receives the rare World Lord General rank, and is teleported to Base 001. 30 31
- Kailun squad operations — Disguised as Cao Benqi, Qin Cang joins Kailun's World Lord squad and participates in hunts across the Ice Sand Snow Plain, beginning his direct combat experience against alien forces. 32 34 35
- Slaying Skolls — Qin Cang kills Skolls, a peak Immortal Military Lord of the Sky Wolf Race, completing his stated one-billion military-merit quota while drawing Demon Race attention. 43 45 47
- Star Sea Region treasure conflict — Qin Cang's expedition into a Machine Race legacy site escalates into a conflict involving Fissure Gold King, Cang Star King, Snow Imperial King, Blood Butcher King, Bone Armor King, and the Heavenly Spirit Diagram. 48 58 65 67
- Return to the Star Sea Region — After the region becomes more dangerous following the King-level conflict, Qin Cang returns to seek Peak Marquis opponents and eventually kills Yar. 71 76 78
Trivia
- Qin Cang's initial military quota of one billion shocked Kailun's squad because it was the highest quota they had encountered for a World Lord. 33
- Qin Cang's true quota is ten trillion military merits, requiring him to kill a Peak Marquis using his human clone as the principal combatant while still a World Lord. 47
- Battlefield veterans emphasize “bully the weak and fear the strong” as a survival principle: identify opponents accurately, avoid stronger enemies, and prioritize staying alive. 35
