A close friend of Howard Stark and a father-figure-like business partner to Tony Stark, Obadiah served as the true helmsman of Stark Industries. Publicly, he greeted Tony warmly following his return from captivity, but Fang Bie already recognized him as the figure behind the conspiracy against Tony. 26

Behind the scenes, Obadiah trafficked Stark Industries weapons to terrorist organizations. Tony later used fingerprints taken from the M1 smartphone prototype to connect Obadiah to weapons recovered from the terrorist base, confirming that he had been inspecting the illicit shipments. 31

After Tony returns from captivity and shuts down Stark Industries’ weapons division, Obadiah’s relationship with him deteriorates over business disagreements. Tony and Fang Bie grow suspicious of his fixation on Tony’s technology and his impatience over the company’s falling stock value. 30

Obadiah is briefly drawn in by the profit potential of the M1 smartphone and agrees to arrange manufacturing, unaware that Tony is using the prototype to obtain evidence of his involvement in illegal weapons sales. 31

Assault on Tony’s villa

When Coulson presents evidence of Obadiah’s terrorist connections, Obadiah arrives at Tony’s home with armed mercenaries and openly reveals that Tony was meant to die. He demands Tony’s Iron Armor knowledge and Arc Reactor technology, believing Tony’s group has no way to resist. 33 34

His attack fails against the defenders’ combined tactics: lava traps inflict heavy casualties, Coulson picks off mercenary leaders, and Fang Bie rigs the armored vehicles with sticky bombs. 36

Defeat and capture

Obadiah attempts to escape after his forces collapse, but Fang Bie blocks his vehicle, steals the Sonic Paralysis Tool, and detonates the rigged vehicles. With all of his remaining advantages destroyed, Obadiah is handed over to Tony and subsequently apprehended by S.H.I.E.L.D. 37
