Background / History
Class B obtained early information on the school's class competition and Special Exam system through Honami Ichinose's transaction with the anonymous “Agent 17.” Ichinose traded the information with Class A, but Class C attempted to obtain it without paying and began targeting Class B with threats, shoving, harassment, and intimidation. 9 10 11
Unable to secure intervention from teachers without proof, Ichinose gathered photographic evidence and brought Class B's complaint to the Student Council. When Class C disputed the photos, every Class B student stood together and gave testimony about their treatment. The Student Council ordered Class C's leader, Long Yuanxiang, to apologize and pay compensation. 10 11 13
The settlement gave the class a stable month free from further trouble by Class C. Under Ichinose's influence, Class B became notably unified; its students studied together and avoided becoming the exception in an environment focused on academic work. 14
During the May exam period, Ichinose manipulated the class-point competition by arranging for Class A's exam papers to be replaced with exceptionally difficult papers. The plan enabled Class B to gain more than 1,000 points, overtake the original Class A, and become the new Class A. 34 35 50
Organization and Dynamics
- Honami Ichinose leads Class B and is widely trusted by its members. Her ability to unite the class is a major factor in its cohesion and later rise. 14 42
- Class B presented a united front during its case against Class C, with all students participating in testimony rather than leaving Ichinose to face the accusation alone. 13
- Beihai initially characterizes the class as being made up of “ordinary” and law-abiding students, in contrast to the elites of Class A, the delinquents of Class C, and the defectives of Class D. 10
- Despite Ichinose's kind public image, the class is capable of employing severe strategic measures when its survival and rank are at stake. 26 35
