Background

Wu Sheng was raised in the Wu Gang Clan under the name Black Boy. Xuan Gang was his nominal foster father, though their relationship gradually became a genuine father-son bond. Before Wu Sheng was taken for the Blood Trial, Xuan Gang gave him a Cosmic Crystal and urged him to survive the road ahead 4 5.

As a Special Lifeform, Wu Sheng's Primal Force and mental power naturally advanced together. He entered the Blood Trial with perfect force and mental amplitudes, but initially lacked the resources and weapons needed to fully exploit them 5 7 22.

The Blood Trial forced him toward the soul path. He killed competitors, refined portions of their souls through Soul Devour, and used their dreams to temper his will. The process rapidly improved his mental strength but exposed him to the memories, emotions, and possible backlash of those he devoured 11 12 16.

He later accepted Blood Sun City's support, completed the Blood Trial, and became one of its core elders. His performance in Trial Ground CKHX-3819 won Blood Sun City a massive betting pool and established his reputation as a dangerous illusionist 61 68 71.

After surviving the Soul Oath Land and accumulating major wealth, servants, Special Lifeforms, and treasures, Wu Sheng was promoted to Honorary Deputy City Lord of Blood Sun City 194. He subsequently entered Human Territory, established Star Prison Pavilion, became involved in pharmaceutical production, and began operating through multiple bodies and clones 202 232 255.

Wu Sheng is commonly seen as a green-robed youth with distinctive blood-red eyes. He can alter his appearance, suppress the glow of his eyes, and adopt other forms through transformation techniques 26 67 131.

Wu Sheng is pragmatic, calculating, and intensely survival-driven. In the Blood Trial, he concluded that when he could not change the rules of a brutal environment, he had to adapt to them or become someone else's stepping stone 19.

He is ruthless toward threats and highly willing to exploit opportunities, whether through ambushes, wagers, enslavement, or treasure acquisition. At the same time, he is not indiscriminately cruel: he spared Bai Yu for his usefulness, protected the wolf cub he felt connected to, aided Xuan Gang and the Wu Gang Clan, and later freed Bai Yu and Man Gu while retaining their voluntary loyalty 15 46 71 72.

His repeated refinement of souls eventually destabilized his sense of self. Through Master of Wine's guidance, Wu Sheng accepted that he was neither the people whose memories he had absorbed nor merely their accumulated regrets; he affirmed his identity as the Soul-Devouring Demon Tank 144 145.
