History

Foundation and the Heavy Mountain Path

The sect’s origin lies in an enlightened cultivator’s sacrifice. After accidentally opening the Purple Demon Abyss barrier, he gave his life to seal it, leaving a formation and inheritance behind. His soul remained beneath the Heavy Mountain Path, whose name echoed that of his lifebound treasure, the Heavy Mountain Blade. A passing Green Mountain Ancestor obtained the inheritance, founded the sect, and assumed responsibility for maintaining the seal 24.

The path later became part of the sect’s admission assessment. Zhao Qingshan reveals that its formation was deliberately arranged under a decision by the Upper Sect—or, more broadly, the Cultivator Alliance—as part of the Devil Slaughter Plan. The plan used the Devil Race’s influence on human cultivators to facilitate infiltration, despite the suffering and deaths involved 55. Lin Chen subsequently identifies the path’s illusions as effects of demonic energy leaking from the suppressed rift beneath the mountain 170.

Lin Chen’s Admission

Lin Chen initially seeks admission because sects control access to Spirit Stones and offer cultivation techniques and expert instruction 1. During the assessments, his perseverance impresses the elders, but his Five Elements Root causes them to doubt his prospects. His unexpectedly rapid cultivation also raises suspicions of demonic cultivation 8 10.

After Lin Chen exposes Liu Ruyan’s attempt to frame him, Elder Liu revokes the qualifications of the conspirators and expels them. Lin Chen finishes first among the remaining candidates, all of whom become official disciples 15. He develops close ties with Sect Leader Peak and eventually becomes Zhao Qingshan’s personal disciple, a promotion that provokes surprise and rivalry throughout the sect 18 39.

War with the Beast Taming Sect

The Beast Taming Sect demands that Green Mountain surrender Lin Chen and the Skywing Bird egg, accompanying its demand with an accusation involving its Saintess. Zhao Qingshan refuses, while Ming Bufan presents evidence of massacres and essence-blood harvesting in Beast Taming territory. The confrontation escalates into a siege and open war 65.

After an initial compensation settlement, the two sects issue missions to kill one another’s disciples. They arrange a newcomer contest whose winner would receive thirty percent of the loser’s resources for three years 77. Green Mountain instead launches a surprise assault before the scheduled contest, mobilizing more than eleven thousand cultivators 91 92 102.

The offensive exposes Elder Gu as an informant for the enemy. Fighting continues from night until dawn, and Bai Qionghua opens the Demon Abyss seal to unleash demonized beasts 91 92. Green Mountain ultimately wins, but more than a thousand of its participants die. Lin Chen warns that the victory is incomplete: many enemies have become soul demons, and the Enchantress Clan’s manipulation extends beyond the destroyed sect 102.

Dragon City and Attempts to Isolate the Sect

Six sects demand compensation for losses associated with the Beast Taming Sect’s destruction. Green Mountain’s leaders decide to capture and cripple their elders, both in retaliation and to prevent interference with the coming Dragon City expedition 107.

Inside the secret realm, a bounty values each Green Mountain disciple at one hundred thousand Spirit Stones. Lin Chen rescues fellow disciples by spreading false reward rumors that turn their pursuers against one another, then establishes a fortified gathering point 115 117 118. Two disciples are killed during the expedition; eight members return and are publicly honored 132 133.

The attacks also serve the Raksha Sect’s attempt to isolate Lin Chen. Its later demand that he kill Mysterious Heaven Sect guards would sever Green Mountain’s remaining support and implicate it in betrayal of the human race 154.

Expansion and Regional Alliance

Taking over Beast Taming territory strains Green Mountain’s administration. In Clearwind City, Lin Chen discovers imprisoned cultivators and an essence-blood pill operation linked to Beast Taming survivors. Their activities threaten both local lives and Green Mountain’s reputation, since outsiders could blame the new territorial ruler 174.

After Huang Ritian threatens to release demonic beasts in surrounding cities, Zhao Qingshan dispatches eight patrol teams to eliminate hidden dangers 176 178. Green Mountain also becomes a trial point for the Community of Shared Destiny Plan, strengthening its connection with the Mysterious Heaven Sect 178.

That alliance holds when Windcloud Sect members provoke Green Mountain’s Beast Taming Hall. Lin Chen intervenes, and the two allied sects commit to standing together against further aggression 188 193. His later intelligence work and disruption of Northwestern Region alliances help defeat Windcloud’s invasion; Green Mountain also receives valuable inheritances and resources from his mission 251.

Regional Crisis and Merger

Bai Mujie’s conspiracy turns a formation at the Mysterious Heaven Sect’s victory celebration into a mechanism that drains cultivators’ spiritual power. Green Mountain’s members conceal the survival of Lin Chen’s real body after a clone is destroyed. When Bai Mujie threatens them, Ming Bufan offers the Heavenly Sword Sect a rigged warship, whose explosion kills many of its members 252 253.

After the survivors reach Black Dragon Continent, Lin Chen rejects the proposal to rebuild separate sects and advocates a single organization. Construction of the unified Mysterious Heaven Sect begins immediately 275. Following its completion, it is renamed Dragon Mysterious Sect. Former disciples are mixed and reassigned, while leaders enter collective governing bodies and advancement becomes subject to the Formation Spirit’s assessment 278 279.
