The Ravenclaw common room was located in a tower, one of the tallest buildings in Hogwarts.
Its overall style was blue and bronze, with comfortable chairs and tables scattered about, and several elegant arched high windows lining the walls.
What set it apart most from the other common rooms was the sheer number of books on display—it was practically a small library.
And among the tables and chairs, this year's Ravenclaw first-years were diligently taking notes.
Anthony Goldstein pointed at a pot of White Fresh, explaining the relevant content for the upcoming Herbology essay.
To be honest, this kind of scene was rare in Ravenclaw.
Because most of the time, they preferred to quietly read on their own.
But when Anthony and a girl named Padma Patil started discussing the topic, some knowledge inadvertently drifted into the ears of nearby students.
Even though it was all material from the books, having it explained by someone else was like breaking bread apart—easier to digest.
Before long, the first-years nearby had gathered around—after all, no one would turn down higher marks, especially not Ravenclaws.
"That covers the basics of White Fresh. I think if you use three of these points, you should be able to get a pretty good score from Professor Sprout." Anthony smiled as he looked at the faces of the students around him.
Amid a round of enthusiastic applause, he earned quite a bit of goodwill from his classmates.
"Great explanation," Padma praised as the students gradually dispersed.
"But besides the essay itself, Professor Sprout also gave us an extra credit question. Do you have any ideas?"
Professor Sprout believed in teaching according to each student's ability. The Herbology essay itself wasn't too difficult—it was basic knowledge that would yield decent marks as long as you were willing to put in the time.
But to get an even higher score, you had to tackle the more challenging bonus question, which couldn't be found in books—at least not at this stage.
This time, the bonus question was how to speed up the growth of White Fresh without adding any additives.
Anthony hesitated for a moment, then finally decided to speak up.
"On nights without clouds blocking the moon, placing White Fresh that's still in its growth stage under moonlight can speed up its growth..."
"But that's not in the books, and Professor Sprout never mentioned it in class. How do you know?" Padma was a bit surprised—she had only asked on a whim.
"Glen Howard told me... you know, the Slytherin who takes Herbology with us." Anthony answered honestly.
Padma thought back. There was indeed such a person. Professor Sprout often praised him in class.
But at the same time, she couldn't help frowning.
Padma had an older sister named Parvati Patil, a Gryffindor in the same year.
From their conversations, Parvati had painted a pretty terrible picture of Slytherin.
Just a few days ago, during a joint Flying Lesson between Slytherin and Gryffindor, a student named Malfoy had snatched someone's Remembrall just to provoke the famous Harry Potter.
According to Parvati, Malfoy was practically trying to get Harry to break his neck!
"Sorry, but forgive my doubt, Anthony. Are you sure your answer has enough basis?" What if that Slytherin was just spouting nonsense, waiting to see someone make a fool of themselves?
Padma didn't say the last part out loud, but her tone made her meaning clear enough.
Hearing this, Anthony shook his head helplessly. "No."
"Then you..."
"But he lent me this pot of White Fresh temporarily, said I could verify it myself."
With that, Anthony got up, found a good spot by the arched tower window, and set the White Fresh down properly—tonight was a full moon.
Truth be told, even he was a bit confused about how he had agreed to this while listening in the library.
But even if he had to do it over, Anthony would still agree. Not only that, he would thank Glen again.
Knowledge was valuable on one hand, but on the other, this was a chance to personally verify whether the knowledge was correct!
In a way, that was even more important than an essay.
It was regrettable, but one had to admit that there were differences between the dormitories and common rooms of each house.
Hufflepuff was close to the kitchen; Ravenclaw lived in the tower, high up with a great view.
Even Gryffindor at least had plenty of sunlight.
But Slytherin? Their dormitories and common room were built deep in the dungeons, right next to the Black Lake's bottom—it was outrageous.
Apart from watching the giant squid through the glass underwater, there were almost no advantages...
No matter how good Glen's impression of Slytherin from a hundred years ago was, he couldn't deny this fact—even Ominis and Sebastian said so.
Under these circumstances, getting White Fresh to bask in moonlight in the dungeons was nearly impossible.
So Glen chose to ask Anthony for help, letting him take the White Fresh to soak up the moonlight.
The principle was the same as applying Mooncalf dung.
Though the effect was weaker than the latter, the growth acceleration was still considerable.
In just one night, this pot of young White Fresh had grown a full inch taller!
"The homework this time was completed quite well." In Herbology class, Professor Sprout said cheerfully.
"Both Slytherin and Ravenclaw have a solid grasp of the basics, and most students wrote down the core points—so, I've decided to award five points to each of your houses!"
A mix of jeering laughter and applause erupted in the classroom, making it quite noisy.
But Professor Sprout was happy with it, so she didn't stop them, only waiting until the applause began to fade before pressing her hands down, signaling for quiet.
"In addition, I want to give special recognition to two students. They not only finished their essays perfectly but also answered my extra-credit questions..." she announced loudly. "They are Slytherin's Glen Howard and Ravenclaw's Anthony Goldstein!"
And this time, enthusiastic applause rang out again, lasting even longer.
The Slytherin students all looked toward the student who had been making a name for himself in various classes over just a few months.
Compared to the dismissive glances at the start of term, based on his surname, these were much clearer now.
After all, the smooth completion of this essay was inseparable from Glen's selfless explanations in the common room—so simple and easy to understand that even Goyle and Crabbe, whose IQs rivaled trolls, had grasped it.
On that point alone, even the most unwilling Malfoy had to admire him.
Under everyone's gaze, Glen stood up and gave a slight bow to those around him.
Then, at Professor Sprout's signal, he walked up to the podium with Anthony to collect their O (Outstanding, the highest grade, representing perfection and flawlessness) homework.
After class, Anthony called out to Glen, who was about to leave.
"Even though it sounds a bit cheeky, Glen, could I borrow your White Fresh again?" As he said this, he felt his face flush with embarrassment.
Even though he had approached Glen in the library first, just as Padma had said, he hadn't fully trusted this Slytherin from the start.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have been cautious enough to wait until the results were confirmed before writing down the answers—but the truth was... the other person had never intended to trick him.
"I want to experiment to see if, outside of a full moon, normal moonlight can also speed up White Fresh growth..."
He thought he'd have to go through some trouble, but Glen just waved his hand and agreed directly.
"Sure, just take care of it."
This left Anthony stunned for a moment, not knowing what to say, and he could only nod dumbly.
"Okay, thanks."
After Glen got up and left, Padma stared intently at his back as he was surrounded by Slytherins, her thoughts churning.
"Alright, I admit, maybe I had some prejudice before. There are some pretty cool guys in Slytherin too."
