Background / History

Hikari is the Anbu codename selected by Uchiha Kaede when he and Uchiha Shisui entered the Hokage’s Direct Anbu. He chose “Hikari,” meaning “light,” after reflecting on his belief that he could become “the light of the ninja world.” 29

He told Shisui that he wished to become Hokage and bring true peace to the ninja world. Although this goal was sincere, he deliberately used it to earn the younger Shisui’s trust, later admitting to himself that his motives toward Shisui were not pure. 29

Under Anbu rules, Kaede was to be addressed as Hikari during missions. His unit was led by Captain Kabuto and also included the operatives Swan and Sparrow; its training covered codes, interrogation, and Anbu-specific ninjutsu. 29
