Shen Hui resolved the White Water River disturbances, killing a Crab Demon and uncovering a Jiafunu parasite before reuniting with Lu Huan. After preparing to return to Clear Wind Temple, he joined a caravan and confronted bandits who ate people, leaving with one captured guide to lead him to their hideout.

• Shen Hui dispersed the Fire Ghost inside Fang Yan and, after Lu Huan helped him through his doubts, decided to see people as mortal rather than judge them as good or bad.
• Shen Hui subdued the demon inhabiting a drowned woman’s corpse, arranged for villagers to honor her as the White Carp, and tasked her with protecting the river and reporting harmful demons.
• Shen Hui killed the Crab Demon at Backwater Bay and discovered Jiafunu strands in its body, then found the remains of the cultivator who had raised it for revenge.
• Shen Hui traveled toward Qu County, shared a shelter with Zhang Lao Si and his linked corpses, and shaped the shelter into a place for travelers to use.
• Shen Hui reunited with Lu Huan, reported to Old Taoist Ji Chen, and learned about Green City Mountain’s assembly before Ji Chen departed with Master Duo Ming and Miao Zhen.
• Shen Hui and Lu Huan shopped in Qu County, then joined a caravan bound for Shen Du after learning that Lanjin Ferry’s bridge was broken and the river crossing was dangerous.
• When bandits ambushed the caravan, Shen Hui killed the cannibal ringleaders, spared one short bandit to guide him to their hideout, and accepted Lao Jiu’s head instead of the merchants’ protection fee.

Shen Hui killed Fu Yunshan and returned to Clear Wind Temple, where he uncovered Qingyi’s ties to White Bone Hall and fought him. When Ji Chen turned on the temple, Shen Hui inherited its leadership, reached Foundation Establishment through a desperate attempt to survive, and was found beside the wreckage by Deacon Can and a young disciple.

• Shen Hui killed Fu Yunshan and learned that Fu Yunshan’s fate had been marked as a Killing Tribulation, then rescued the abducted women and returned to Clear Wind Temple with Lu Huan.
• Shen Hui studied the Snake Form, Crane Form, and Sword-Wielding Method, while Nie Yun visited the temple seeking its Flying Sword Art and exchanged sword instruction for wine.
• A Commander struck Lu Huan, so Nie Yun killed him and ordered You Shu and her maid to clean up his corpse.
• Shen Hui confronted Qingyi over his alliance with White Bone Hall, defeated him, and brought him back to the temple as Ji Chen returned.
• Shen Hui found Jinghui gravely wounded, killed her when she attacked, and faced Ji Chen’s sword beam before Jingming carried him away.
• Jingming named Shen Hui the temple’s next abbot, warned him not to trust Qingyi, and killed herself rather than be defiled, and Shen Hui then destroyed her reanimated body.
• With Corpse Fiend influence spreading through his wounds, Shen Hui advanced to Foundation Establishment, called down thunderfire, and split his soul between the Soul-Searching Gourd and his charred corpse.
• Deacon Can and a young disciple found Shen Hui’s burned body and several treasures, but the corpse opened its red-lit eyes and seized Deacon Can’s ankle.

After awakening in a new body with the Soul-Searching Gourd, Shen Hui joined forces with the Daoist whose body he shared and pursued the people behind the corpse plague. He rescued Lu Huan, destroyed several threats, and turned toward Yanuo Valley, where a scholar noticed her calligraphy.

• A white-haired figure took Deacon Can’s Jadeite Gourd and Mystic Yellow Robe, then Shen Hui woke inside the Soul-Searching Gourd among the dead disciples of Clear Wind Temple.
• Shen Hui regained control of a regenerated body and discovered that his Dark Essence was trapped in the gourd, leaving his other spirits to drive him toward Clear Wind Temple.
• Shen Hui and the Daoist agreed to share the body, with Shen Hui setting moral limits as they tracked Zhou Yunzhi and the people connected to the corpse plague.
• Shen Hui found Qingyi and Lu Huan at a camp, burned Qingyi and the others, and left with Lu Huan after rescuing her.
• Shen Hui killed a Red Ru, destroyed a Qizhong carrying a crimson worm, and led Lu Huan through villages stricken by corpse plague.
• Shen Hui killed Pang Hong and the Plague Slave, then chose to investigate Yanuo Valley with Lu Huan.
• At an inn, Shen Hui killed Black-Faced Zhao and his five men after they threatened him, while Lu Huan practiced reciting and writing.
• Shen Hui and Lu Huan continued their lessons at the inn, where a middle-aged scholar corrected Lu Huan’s stroke order for the character “Dao.”

Shen Hui traveled with Lu Huan and a grieving merchant, fought a Mountain Spirit that attacked the travelers, and explored a dangerous cavern beneath Apewing Mountain. After restoring the mountain and treating the travelers, he left an enchanted stone guardian behind as he and Lu Huan continued on.

• Shen Hui defeated the ghosts at the Ghost Market and helped a surviving merchant bury his nephew’s ashes before traveling with him and Lu Huan.
• Shen Hui learned that rebels had seized Zhaoyang Commandery City, but continued toward Yanuo Valley with the travelers.
• A Mountain Spirit attacked the group on a mountain road, and Shen Hui fought it while a stone giant guarded the travelers.
• Shen Hui pursued the wounded Mountain Spirit to Apewing Mountain, burned it out of hiding, and discovered a cavern beneath the summit.
• Shen Hui descended into the cavern, killed a giant centipede, and refined Ink Abyss from a Baleful Spring to master Control Water.
• Shen Hui cleared the cavern of its creatures, restored Apewing Mountain, and treated the travelers for the Mountain Spirit’s sinister energy.
• Shen Hui left an enchanted stone statue to guard the travelers, and Lu Huan said goodbye to it before she and Shen Hui departed.
