Background
Valar was the twin brother of Longzel Varezys. While Longzel managed the family's affairs, Valar was sent to the Silverblood Army Estate on the Orange Coast for military instruction under the Unsullied centurion Silver Scorpion. 2
He trained alongside youths such as Hofa and proved highly capable in lance sparring. During this period, a Regret Man attempted to assassinate him; Valar evaded the attack, seized a broken lance amid the struggle, and personally killed the assassin after Silver Scorpion's spear struck him. 6 7
Valar later entered Westerosi politics and warfare alongside his brothers. House Varezys granted him the nominal title of Governor of Silver Crown City and an annuity drawn from its taxes, while the family's centralized rule remained under Longze's authority. 172
Personality
Valar was more comfortable with dragons and weapons than courtly socializing. He was notably stiff while dancing with Lyra Celtigar, though his awkwardness did not prevent their marriage. 64 75
He could be playful and mischievous, including provoking Daenerys to tears, but he also showed practical caution as a political leader. When House Manwudi sought protection, he ordered Ser Oberon Santagar to verify the envoy's identity before committing House Varezys. 60 144
Despite his record in war, Valar rejected the use of blood magic to prolong his life at the cost of innocent people. He distinguished those slain in battle or punished as sinners from civilians who would be sacrificed solely for him. 206
