Background / History

King Viserys I named Rhaenyra his heir after the death of his first queen and male heir. As Princess of Dragonstone and Syrax's rider, she became the center of opposition from nobles who favored Viserys's later-born sons by Queen Alicent Hightower. 10

During her later pregnancies, Rhaenyra remained involved in Dragonstone's affairs. When House Varezys emerged as another dragon-riding family, she refused to wait passively for Daemon's report, viewing direct involvement as “the responsibility of a ruler.” 11 24

Viserys's worsening illness brought Rhaenyra into open conflict with Otto Hightower. She remained in King's Landing to care for her father and defended her right to stay at his side. 78

Rhaenyra has Valyrian silver hair and is associated with violet eyes. Her appearance changed greatly after repeated pregnancies; at Dragonstone, she required a specially made chair. Aegon's Usurpation and Rhaenyra's Coronation

After Viserys dies, Aegon seizes the throne in King's Landing. The shock sends Rhaenyra into premature labor; she gives birth to a stillborn, deformed child before committing herself fully to reclaiming the crown. 85 86
