Background / History

Vomysor was formerly ridden by King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, the Old King. At the time of his reappearance, he was regarded as the second-largest dragon in Westeros, surpassed only by Vhagar. His Old Valyrian name is associated with the forging god. 11 19

He arrived in the Valyrian ruins alongside Silverwing, where the pair killed a gigantic Fire Dragon Worm. Lonzell Varezes approached Vomysor while he fed on the creature's head, climbed onto his back, and endured repeated attempts to be burned or thrown off. Lonzell's blood magic gradually entered the dragon's scales, creating the bond through which he tamed Vomysor. 19 20

After the taming, the Shadowbinding Stone engulfed rider and dragon in ancestral battle visions. Through these visions, Vomysor and Lonzell experienced Valyrian campaigns against the Rhoynar, dragon duels, hunts, and battles across Sothoryos, the Dothraki Sea, and the Summer Sea. 21 22

In Westeros, Vomysor became central to Lonzell's military and construction efforts. He helped drive Dornish forces from Blackhaven, used silver-tinged dragonfire to melt and reshape a Red Mountains peak into Dragonnest City, and excavated its Dragonpit. 32 34 During the Dornish war, he devastated Uller's forces with dragonfire and later killed the Cannibal by crushing it in a dive, biting through its neck, and burning the body. 45 63

In the later war against the Greens, Vomysor was credited with bringing down Vhagar and ending the conflict far sooner than it might otherwise have lasted. 108 168 As he aged, he became the dominant dragon of House Varezys's roosts and the largest living dragon. 167 171

Igor Varezys spent years acclimating Vomysor to his presence in anticipation of inheriting him. During a succession dispute, Igor climbed onto the dragon's saddle and successfully established a rider's bond; Vomysor then departed Summerhall and returned toward Dragonstone with him. 329 374 375 Under Igor, he later joined House Varezys's dragonflight at the Battle of the Redgrass and fought during the Defender's War. 410 504

Appearance

Vomysor is a colossal bronze dragon, described as hundreds of feet long with a wingspan exceeding a thousand feet during his encounter in Valyria. His enormous scale and heavy build make him resemble a mountain in flight. 19 258
