Chapters 26–50 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 26Commercial Acumen

The Blood Crow Mercenary Group learned that Medivh might still be alive, but refused to hunt him without extra payment from Wester. Meanwhile, Medivh continued developing Kurd City and sent skeletons to steal potatoes for planting, leaving a drifter leader to discover the theft the next morning.

  • The Blood Crow Mercenary Group's intelligence chief reported a skeleton sighting, and the captain connected it to Medivh's contract with Wester.
  • The captain decided the group would not search for Medivh again unless Wester paid an additional fee.
  • Medivh patrolled Kurd City as skeletons continued building walls and excavating the Graveyard District's underground bone farm.
  • Audrey asked where they would get wheat seeds, and Medivh chose to plant potatoes discovered by the Skeleton Assassin.
  • The Skeleton Assassin knocked out the guards at a drifter stronghold's potato field while skeletons harvested potatoes and loaded them onto carts.
  • The next morning, the drifter leader discovered something inexplicable.

Ch. 27There's Honor Among Thieves

Medivh paid the Drifter Stronghold for potatoes he secretly dug up while improving life in Kurd City and developing its agriculture. Meanwhile, Wester hired the Blood Crow Mercenary Group to kill Medivh, and White Crow led mercenaries to Kurd City, hoping to take the stronghold after killing its master.

  • Medivh left money and smoked meat after digging up part of the Drifter Stronghold's potato field, and its leader responded by increasing the guards.
  • Medivh cooked potato dishes for Audrey, Suixiang, and the Alien Maids while skeletons planted potatoes and worked on Kurd City's walls and drainage plans.
  • Wester agreed to pay the Blood Crow Mercenary Group for an additional mission to hunt Medivh, and the Blood Crow Captain sent White Crow to find and kill the suspected Necromancer.
  • White Crow and the mercenaries found Kurd City, admired the stronghold Medivh had built, and planned to claim it after killing him.

Ch. 28White Crow Forced to Fight to the Death

White Crow and the Blood Crow Mercenary Group attacked Kurd City, expecting to overwhelm Mediv and his skeletons, but they were trapped inside and faced a powerful force of Transcendental Skeletons. White Crow was repeatedly forced back into battle by the Minotaur Skeleton Shamans’ Taunt Totems, leaving him fighting for his life.

  • White Crow led the Blood Crow Mercenary Group through a low section of Kurd City’s wall and chased Mediv’s retreating skeletons into the city.
  • Mediv ordered the Skeleton Archers to fire from the walls, and their Bone Arrows killed mercenaries and pierced Apprentice Knights’ shields.
  • White Crow charged with the Knight Captains, but a Minotaur Skeleton Warrior drove him back and revealed the strength of Mediv’s Transcendental Skeletons.
  • Skeleton Warriors, Bone Spirit Rangers, Bone Spirit Assassins, and Spirit Cat Warriors surrounded and attacked the mercenaries as White Crow realized Wester had deceived them.
  • White Crow tried to flee, but a Minotaur Skeleton Shaman’s Taunt Totem repeatedly forced him to turn back and fight while other totems strengthened and healed the skeletons.

Ch. 29History Recorded in Silence

Medivh’s skeletons defeated White Crow, and Medivh expanded Kurd City District’s forces while resurrecting Minotaur Skeletons with new Totems. In Pioneer Territory, the Blood Crow Captain suspected his group was being targeted as he searched for White Crow and faced pressure to complete the employer’s task.

  • Medivh reviewed Kurd City District’s growing forces, sent skeletons to clear the battlefield, and returned to the High Tower to refine Minotaur remains.
  • Medivh resurrected twelve Minotaur Skeleton Warriors and two Minotaur Skeleton Shamans, whose new Holy Shield Totem and Flame Totem strengthened allied skeletons.
  • The Blood Crow Captain worried that White Crow had disappeared and sent scouts to search for him while gathering information about an outside group moving into Pioneer Territory.
  • The intermediary asked the Blood Crow Captain whether he had completed the employer’s task.

Ch. 30An Unconventional Opponent for Conventional Thinking

The Blood Crow Captain investigated White Crow’s disappearance and led his mercenaries toward Kurd City, intending to seize its facilities and move his camp there. While they delayed their approach, Medivh strengthened Kurd City’s defenses and raised a force of 105 first-tier Transcendental Skeletons, setting up an imminent confrontation.

  • The Blood Crow Captain refused to let the employer’s intermediary examine Medivh’s supposed body, while Night Crow reported that White Crow had not been killed by the rival mercenary group.
  • Scouts found Kurd City, a well-ordered settlement inhabited by skeletons, and the Blood Crow Captain decided to meet its Necromancer and investigate White Crow’s disappearance.
  • The Blood Crow Captain led most of his mercenaries out of the Pioneer Territory and had Night Crow deal with their followers as they secretly circled toward Kurd City.
  • During the delay, Medivh resurrected additional Minotaur and Heavy Skeleton Warriors, advanced eight Skeleton Warriors to first-tier Bone Spirits, and strengthened three Skeleton Shamans.
  • The Blood Crow mercenaries reached Kurd City and saw its growing network of high walls, while Medivh commanded 105 first-tier Transcendental Skeletons.

Ch. 31Sichuan Opera Face-Changing

Blood Crow led his mercenaries in an assault on the Workshop District, but Medivh’s skeletons halted their advance and lured Blood Crow over the wall. Surrounded by heavily reinforced Minotaur Skeleton Warriors, Blood Crow discovered that his attacks could barely hurt them and faced a growing threat.

  • Blood Crow chose to attack the Workshop District and sent his mercenaries against its walls from three directions.
  • Medivh reinforced the district, and Skeleton Archers killed more than a hundred mercenaries as they tried to climb the walls.
  • Blood Crow climbed the siege ladder and charged the Bone Spirit Ranger, but a Taunt Totem drew him into chasing a Skeleton Warrior over the wall.
  • Blood Crow landed among thirty-six Minotaur Skeleton Warriors supported by healing, earth, and holy shield totems.
  • Blood Crow’s powerful sword strike barely damaged a Skeleton Warrior, and the skeletons’ attacks made him fear for his life.

Ch. 32The Difference Before Death

Medivh’s forces defeated the Blood Crow Mercenary Group in Kurd City, killing Night Crow and Blood Crow. After learning Wester had arranged the attack, Medivh resolved to confront him despite the Hobarton Family’s powerful knights.

  • Medivh’s defenders cornered Blood Crow and his mercenaries, while the skeletons stopped Night Crow from assassinating Medivh.
  • Audrey and the Skeleton Mage captured Night Crow, and Medivh ordered her killed.
  • Blood Crow offered loyalty and then a slave contract, but Medivh ignored his pleas as the battle continued and Blood Crow died.
  • Medivh’s skeletons found the mercenaries’ money and captured prisoners who revealed Wester had arranged the attack.
  • Medivh recognized that killing Wester would risk conflict with the Hobarton Family and its Fourth-Rank Knights.

Ch. 33Mysterious Disappearance

Medivh developed Kurd City and used wheat seeds taken from the Blood Crow Mercenary Group to expand its farmland. In Loran City, Wester learned that Blood Crow and his group had mysteriously disappeared, leaving the bounty unresolved.

  • Medivh sorted Minotaur bones by age, expanded skeleton production, and continued planning Kurd City's growth.
  • Audrey brought Medivh high-quality wheat seeds found among the Blood Crow Mercenary Group's spoils, and he assigned Skeleton Farmers to plant two new fields.

  • The intermediary searched for Blood Crow and learned that the Blood Crow Mercenary Group had gone deep into the Wilderness and had not returned.
  • After the group's stronghold was taken over and its leaders remained missing, the intermediary reported the disappearance to Wester, who grew angry over the failed job.

Ch. 34Times Have Changed

While Wester remained unable to learn whether Medivh had survived, Medivh strengthened Kurd City and expanded its farms, workshops, and defenses. As the rainy season began and Murlocs roamed Odyssey, Kurd City continued building and repelled those that approached.

  • Wester learned that the intermediary organization had hired a few scouts to search for Medivh, but he saw little hope of finding him and could not afford a larger search.
  • A month and a half after Blood Crow's disappearance, Medivh inspected Kurd City's new walled agricultural districts and the second Nine-Grid District, noting the growing skeleton forces and Suixiang's advancement.
  • Medivh returned to the High Tower to craft more skeletons, hoping that continued resurrection would eventually help him advance as a mage.
  • Audrey warned Medivh that the rainy season was coming, and he told her that Kurd City's walls and troops made him unafraid of Murloc attacks.
  • Heavy rains arrived, and while Murlocs roamed Odyssey, Kurd City's skeletons continued building under awnings and shot down Murlocs that came near.

Ch. 35Rescue Excavation

After the rainy season, Medivh learned of a flash-flood-stripped wasteland that might hold an Ancient Battlefield and led a rescue excavation there. He smelted recovered Transcendental bones and resurrected an Orc Skeleton Prophet, leaving his hoped-for advancement within reach.

  • Audrey’s Skeleton Archers and other defenders killed the murlocs that approached Kurd City, ending the rainy-season attacks.
  • After the rains passed, Kurd City’s reservoirs were full, construction had progressed, and Medivh continued resurrecting Skeletons.
  • A Spirit Cat Skeleton Warlock reported that a flash flood had exposed a possible Ancient Battlefield, and Medivh went to investigate.
  • Medivh confirmed the scattered bones dated to the same year, then directed thousands of Skeletons to excavate them before further damage occurred.
  • The excavation uncovered Transcendental human and Orc bones, which Medivh smelted into Knight, Mage, Orc Berserker, and Orc Prophet Skeleton parts.
  • After collecting a complete set of Orc Prophet parts, Medivh assembled and resurrected an Orc Skeleton Prophet.

Ch. 36Far Ahead

Medivh advanced to a Tier 1 Low-level Mage after resurrecting an Orc Skeleton Prophet, then tested the Prophet’s curse abilities and continued excavating and resurrecting Transcendental Skeletons. A powerful Spring of Time from his first Orc Skeleton Berserker restored his spent mental power and mana and increased his maximum mental power, so he kept working.

  • Medivh used the Spring of Time from resurrecting an Orc Skeleton Prophet to advance from Senior Mage Apprentice to Tier 1 Low-level Mage.
  • Medivh tested the Orc Skeleton Prophet’s Cursed Sword and its Curse of Weakness, Curse of Bleeding, and Curse of Pain.

  • Medivh absorbed the Berserker’s powerful Spring of Time, recovering his spent mental power and mana while increasing his maximum mental power, then continued smelting bones and resurrecting Transcendental Skeletons.

Ch. 37Magic Missile

Medivh returned from the Ancient Battlefield with new skeletons and magical knowledge, then began refining and resurrecting Blue Bone Skeletons in Kurd City. He found that his abilities could handle Light Blue and some Sky Blue Skeletons, but not Cobalt Blue or Transcendental Sky Blue Skeletons.

  • Medivh learned Magic Missile and recorded the Frost Skeleton Mage's inherited magical knowledge.
  • After five days of excavation, Medivh brought home five Orc Skeleton Berserkers, two Orc Skeleton Prophets, four Flame Skeleton Knights, one Frost Skeleton Mage, and a large haul of bones.
  • Audrey met Medivh at Kurd City's wall, and they rode together back to the High Tower.
  • The next morning, Medivh refined Blue Bone and resurrected Common Light Blue and Sky Blue Skeletons, but failed to refine Cobalt Blue Skeletons or resurrect Transcendental Sky Blue Skeletons.
  • Medivh resurrected a Transcendental Light Blue Minotaur Skeleton Warrior whose Totem Marks showed that the Minotaur Tribe's transcendental heritage had remained intact during that period.

Ch. 38Skeleton Assembly Line

Medivh mass-produced Skeletons from Kurd’s dwindling bone supplies, reviving new Transcendental units and thousands of ordinary ones before pausing the assembly line. He resumed training promising Skeletons with Magic Beast Blood and planned to produce more once the warehouse was replenished.

  • Medivh refined Blue Bone and revived two Transcendental Light Blue Skeletons, thirty-two Common Light Blue Skeletons, and eighteen Common Sky Blue Skeletons for Kurd.
  • Medivh distributed Magic Beast Blood, advancing the Green Bone Frost Mage and an Orc Prophet, while a Green Bone Heavy Warrior and Ranger awakened as Bone Spirits.

  • Kurd City’s skeletons expanded its districts, harvested potatoes and wheat, and prepared fields for more crops.
  • Audrey offered Medivh honey bread, and he found her baked goods delicious.
  • A slave-hunting group spotted Kurd City but chose to avoid it and camp nearby.
  • Suixin and Suixiang led skeletons toward the camp to search for captured kin, while the Skeleton Assassins killed the sentries and sleeping hunters.
  • Urgot detected the attack and raised the alarm, and the Skeleton Archers fired on the warriors emerging from their tents.

Ch. 40Despair and Hope

Medivh’s skeletons defeated a Slave Hunter Group and captured its merchant to learn a route through the Winter Mountains. Suixiang and Suixin reunited with the captured Cat-men, learning of their tribe’s decline and the abuse that had driven several Cat-girls to suicide.

  • The Slave Hunter Group tried to escape the skeletons, but Minotaur Skeleton Warriors surrounded them and killed Urgot after the slave merchant abandoned him.
  • The skeletons captured the slave merchant and several warriors so Medivh could question them about a mountain route into the Gewalt Federation.

  • Queling explained that famine, the old chieftain’s death, and the Slave Hunter Group’s raid had left the tribe vulnerable.
  • Suixiang and Suixin discovered that the merchant and his men had abused more than a dozen Cat-girls, some of whom had taken their own lives.

Ch. 41Just Right

Suixiang and Suixin brought more than three hundred Cat-men slaves to Kurd City and persuaded them to obey Medivh’s rules. The Cat-men settled in District Two, where Suixin began restoring their Inheritance Spirit Runes.

  • Suixiang and Suixin told the imprisoned Cat-men that their ancestors had become undead and encouraged them to integrate into Kurd City.
  • Medivh assigned the Cat-men to District Two and put Suixiang, Suixin, and the other Cat-girls in charge of them.
  • Suixiang led the Cat-men to District Two, warned them not to resist or escape, and arranged for them to rest under guard.
  • The next morning, Queling and other Spirit Cat Warriors greeted Suixiang and Suixin in District Two.
  • Suixin began restoring Queling’s Inheritance Spirit Rune in stages, explaining that inscribing too much at once could seriously harm or kill the recipient.

Ch. 42The Cat-men Belonged to Kurd City

Suixiang persuaded Medivh to offer the Spirit Cat Tribe a chance to move to Kurd City, then led a skeleton caravan to Spirit Cat Hill. She reached Riddle and the tribe before fighting began, but the Cat-men still had to decide whether to accept the offer.

  • Queling completed her Inheritance Spirit Rune, grew stronger, and learned the lost Cat Clan Combat Technique from Suixiang.
  • Queling, Suixiang, and Suixin worried that Riddle's death would leave the Spirit Cat Tribe vulnerable to its hostile rival.
  • Medivh agreed to send soldiers to help the Cat-men move to Kurd City if they chose to go.
  • Suixiang traveled with a skeleton caravan for ten days to reach Spirit Cat Hill, where Riddle prepared to hold off the skeletons while the tribe fled.

Ch. 47Secret Parchment

After discovering that Lingxi had arranged a reception because she believed false stories in a Secret Parchment, Medivh told her to correct the misinformation and destroy the texts. As the Spirit Cat Tribe developed its magical institutions and supplied ancient battlefield bones, Medivh continued forging Skeletons and reached the intermediate level as a Necromancer.

  • Lingxi invited Medivh to a special reception, where he learned she had arranged it because she believed human lords claimed their subjects' brides' first time.
  • Medivh corrected Lingxi's misunderstanding, and she agreed to burn the Parchments and tell the Spirit Cat Tribe the truth.
  • Medivh assigned the No. 2 High Tower Castle to the Spirit Cat Warlock Hall, which trained Warlocks and Spirit Rune Warriors and taught Cat Clan Combat Techniques.
  • The Skeleton Assassins found more Ancient Battlefields, and Skeleton Caravans brought aged Green Bone back to Kurd City for Medivh to forge into Skeletons.
  • By late November, Medivh's spiritual power passed the threshold for a first-tier, intermediate-level Necromancer.

Ch. 48A Heaven-Sent Opportunity
