Background / History

Death and resurrection

Ten thousand years before the present story, Yu Xin died shielding Chen Nan from the Great Demon King’s attack. Chen Nan later sought revenge against the fiend’s descendant, was defeated, and died himself. 187

He is resurrected from the God and Devil Mausoleum and brought into All Heavens City by Jiang Han. Still carrying his memories from ten thousand years earlier, Chen Nan is devastated by Yu Xin’s apparent death and initially considers his renewed life meaningless. 187

Jiang Han tells him that Yu Xin is still alive, but that Chen Nan will need great strength to see her again. Chen Nan accepts a plane contract with All Heavens City, obtains the God of Light Set, and immediately returns to the Shen Mu Plane. 187

Search for Yu Xin

Chen Nan returns to Hundred Flowers Valley in the Kunlun Mountain Range, where Chen Zhan had once sealed the Ancient Immortal Remnant Array to protect Yu Xin. Using the God of Light Set, Chen Nan breaks the barrier that he could not have breached before his death. 188

In the valley, he protects a fairy-born girl later identified as Chen Xi, an incarnation Yu Xin left behind. Chen Nan is moved by her familiar aura, takes her with him, and learns that Yu Xin’s living true body is in the Heaven Realm. 189

At Fengdu Mountain’s Corpse Herding Sect, he finds Yu Xin’s corpse transformed into the Corpse King. Enraged by the sect’s treatment of her body, he attacks its members and protects the Corpse King even when confronted by the Invincible Ancient Corpse and the Thirteen Blood Corpses. 190 191 192

Jiang Han explains that Chen Zhan had saved Yu Xin ten thousand years ago, after which she entered the Heaven Realm believing Chen Nan dead. The Corpse King develops an independent consciousness, and Jiang Han removes the death qi from her body. 192 193

Heaven Realm and reunion

Chen Nan travels through the Eighteen Levels of Hell, defeats the Western Totem, and gains passage into the Heaven Realm. During this journey, he rescues Catherine, who resembles Corpse King Yu Xin and is connected to Yu Xin’s third incarnation. 198 199

At Tantai Holy Land, Chen Nan confronts the Ruthless Fairy, whose body is Yu Xin’s but whose actions are controlled by a new consciousness born from the Supreme Emotionless Record. Jiang Han intervenes, separates Yu Xin’s soul from the Ruthless Fairy’s body, and reunites Chen Nan with Yu Xin. 220 221

Yu Xin later recounts that the Du Family forced her into marriage after she reached the Immortal Martial Realm. Chen Nan accompanies her to the Du Family Profound Realm to settle this old debt, where Du Tao recognizes him as his former Young Master. 222

Lineage and Heavenly Dao conflict

Du Tao reveals that Chen Nan is the son of Chen Zhan, a Heaven Realm genius whose memories and power were altered after he resisted being sacrificed to revive the Ancestor Chen. 223

The Heavenly Demon merges with Chen Nan and becomes a helper within him. At Yu Xin’s request, Chen Nan spares the remaining Du Family members after Du Tao and the responsible experts are punished. 223

After reaching Heaven Rank, Chen Nan faces the primordial monarch Black Rise. Unable to defeat him directly, Chen Nan uses a light clone to lure Black Rise into the Heavenly Pit. 228

Chen Nan is intensely devoted to Yu Xin. His pursuit of her drives his resurrection, cultivation, and conflicts with the Corpse Herding Sect, the Du Family, and the Heaven Realm. He is willing to risk his life to protect even Yu Xin’s corpse, remembering that she once died protecting him. 187 192

His grief can turn into ruthless fury, particularly toward those who harmed Yu Xin. However, he is not indiscriminately cruel: after Yu Xin asks him to spare the surviving Du Family members who were uninvolved in the past crime, he accepts her decision. 191 223

Chen Nan is also pragmatic in battle. Against opponents beyond his direct strength, he relies on positioning, light clones, forbidden locations, and Jiang Han’s guidance rather than refusing to retreat. 228 229
