Background / History

Huang Shang was an actor on Earth, known mainly for supporting roles after three years working in anti-Japanese-war dramas at Hengdian. He died in a traffic accident while riding to a film set and awoke in his first novice world, Book and Sword Gratitude and Revenge. 1

After returning to the Main God Temple, he sold the Chen Jialuo character card he had obtained, negotiating for 900 reincarnation points while retaining the card until after his next plot world. He treated the novice world chiefly as an opportunity to observe the Heavens, plot characters, and Reincarnators before selecting a long-term path. 1 2

For his first official world, Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, he chose to infiltrate the historical Huang Shang: an impoverished, eighteen-year-old Song scholar born in 1044. He chose this identity for its minimal pre-established characterization, exceptional talent, long lifespan, and future potential as the creator of the Nine Yin Manual. 3 4

As Huang Shengzhong, he inherited the scholar's learning, continued copying and studying books, and deliberately gained recognition by reciting the “Hengqu Four Verses.” This brought him to Zhang Zai's attention and earned him a place among Zhang's disciples. 4 6 7

Huang Shang is calculating, observant, and willing to manipulate expectations to survive among Reincarnators. He uses his acting background and historical knowledge to maintain the persona of a Song scholar, while carefully steering Xu Feng, Xu Yue, Wu Que, and Nightingale into competing for his favor. 1 16 24 44

He is ambitious but pragmatic. He seeks the Jieyuan and Zhuangyuan titles not only for scholarly achievement but also because academic success strengthens his Literary Qi and offers a route toward political influence. 19 31 45
