Background / History

Xuan Zi serves as a Sea God Pavilion Elder of Shrek Academy. During the Soul Master Tournament, he encourages Shrek’s team to give their all against Su Fan’s side, while leaving the semifinal outcome “to fate.” 24

After Shrek’s defeat, he becomes interested in Su Fan’s Aperture Method and studies copied aperture maps and condensation records submitted to the Sea God Pavilion. He is frustrated that Shrek’s incomplete materials cannot explain Su Fan’s densely packed Core Arrays or the full three-hundred-sixty-five-aperture Heavenly Circuit system. 73

Mu En recognizes that Xuan Zi’s exceptional mutated martial soul carried much of his earlier advancement, but that his lack of experience overcoming bottlenecks has left him trapped below the Limit Douluo realm. Mu En orders him to cultivate the Aperture Method diligently, intending to use aperture regulation to ease the formation of Xuan Zi’s second Soul Core. 74

Despite promising to work hard, Xuan Zi makes limited progress. By the time Shrek obtains fuller Aperture Method intelligence, he has condensed only eighty-three apertures and cannot perceive any immediate assistance in forming a second Soul Core; learning that apertures can simulate one leaves him deeply regretful. 100

Personality

Xuan Zi is forceful and quick to act, but his decisions are repeatedly portrayed as reckless. During the confrontation at Shrek Academy, his attempt to meet Du Busi’s Poison Dragon Energy Wave fails and places the academy itself in danger, forcing the Golden Ancient Tree to intervene. 132

He is sensitive to Shrek’s reputation and responds angrily when Su Fan criticizes Ma Xiaotao and Shrek’s standards. Rather than address Su Fan’s accusations, he attempts to silence him with soul power pressure until Du Busi intervenes. 39

Xuan Zi also lacks patience for painstaking cultivation. He dislikes the mental effort required by aperture cultivation, neglects his training, and is later observed eating a chicken leg instead of practicing. 74 108

Shrek Academy Confrontation

When Du Busi and Su Fan target Wang Qiu’er near Shrek Academy, Xuan Zi confronts Du Busi. He cannot withstand Du Busi’s Poison Dragon Energy Wave; the attack threatens Shrek Academy until the Golden Ancient Tree blocks it. 132

Xuan Zi later helps Tang San’s side locate Su Fan by attacking a spatial node identified through Tang San’s guidance. 133

Battle Against Su Fan

After Su Fan defeats Yan Shaozhe and Elder Song, Xuan Zi fights him directly in his Godly Taotie Bull form. Su Fan’s Elemental Stripping weakens Xuan Zi’s mysterious yellow energy, but Xuan Zi uses Taotie devouring power to draw in heaven-and-earth energy and continue the battle. 137

Xuan Zi escalates by linking a larger devouring vortex to his Soul Core, placing himself under extreme strain. Su Fan chooses to wear him down rather than face his enhanced power head-on. 138

Beast Tide Aftermath

When Tang San orders a ceasefire before the Beast Tide, Xuan Zi and the other Shrek elders comply. After the crisis, he notes that the human side suffers only a few hundred casualties and recognizes that strength is what ultimately commands respect. 141 145
