In this boundless universe, there existed all manner of lifeforms, countless brilliant civilizations, and powerful individual beings.
But one special race seemed markedly different from all the others. They were the symbiotes!
Symbiotes were slime-like organisms that lived on a distant, remote planet and generally could not leave it. Only on that planet could they survive independently; once they left, they needed to attach themselves to other lifeforms like parasites.
However, this form of parasitism was generally beneficial. It granted the host greater vitality, dramatically enhanced physical abilities, and could even cure diseases.
But while symbiotes were naturally kind, they had one trait: like the Super Soldier Serum, they amplified the darkness within their hosts.
The negative emotions of those they parasitized would be amplified by the symbiotes, driving them toward violence and turning them into terrifying monsters.
Even worse, once a symbiote was infected by such negative emotions, it would pass that brutality on to its next host even after leaving the first one and parasitizing another creature.
Unless the host possessed a will as frighteningly steadfast as Captain America's, it would be possible to cleanse the symbiote's corrupted negative emotions through sheer strength of character.
The Skrulls on this planet were all hosts to symbiotes. They had gained immense power, but their naturally violent dispositions had corrupted their symbiotes to the point that even their own kind could not accept them, exiling them to this planet.
To prevent these corrupted symbiotes from leaving the planet, the Skrulls had even created a special layer of radiation in outer space around it.
The moment a symbiote touched that radiation, it and its host would be killed together.
Thus, these Skrulls had been trapped on this planet for who knew how many years, hoping an outsider would descend upon it so
