Pursuit
'Huh? There are still people here... The Owen family's garden is almost more lively than their living room today.'
Sulu gazed curiously at the commotion on the other side.
Nailin Dogwell possessed the composure befitting a patriarch. He seemed to watch the shadowy figure flee, then rapidly chanted a few notes, and a purple flame flashed and disappeared in the darkness.
It was incredibly fast, arriving behind the fleeing man in the blink of an eye.
The fleeing shadow suddenly seemed to trip and fall flat on its face in an awkward, dog-like fashion.
Boom!
It was because of this wrestling that the flames exploded above him, missing their target.
Even so, the burning flames and sparks caused him to burn, resulting in a scream that sounded particularly jarring in the night.
"It's the Bureau 11 Inspectorate! Paul, William, you two handle this! The rest of you come back with me to deal with the guests!"
Nailin withdrew his hand and said indifferently.
"Yes, sir!"
The members of the Dougwell Family bowed, and two men in tuxedos quickly disappeared into the darkness.
'Um?'
Sulu, hidden in the shadows, clearly sensed something was amiss.
'That Nailin? He spotted me? Oh yeah... Anyone who discovers a peeping tom would check their surroundings again, right?'
He could clearly feel the air around him becoming stagnant, and the pitch-black night sky seemed to transform into tentacles, enveloping him from all directions.
"Pity..."
Sulu's lips curled slightly as his Shadow Clone slowly disappeared.
A minute later, Nailin Dogwell walked into the bushes, looking puzzled. "Nothing?"
"Master... Monk City Councilor Monk is waiting..."
A member of the Dougwell Family rushed over and bowed.
They must provide a unified explanation for why Owen has 'disappeared'.
"I see."
Nailin gazed into the shadows, the purple in his eyes flashing rapidly before finally settling into silence.
"My hunch was right, there's something wrong with the Dougwell Family!"
Sean nimbly weaved through the streets, his expression ferocious, somewhat grimacing.
His pace slowed uncontrollably, not only due to the burning on his back, but also as a result of the fall he had taken earlier.
"Damn it... I should have brought the captain with me."
Sensing the pursuers behind him, Sean gave a wry smile.
Tonight's events were entirely his own decision. He felt that Owen was indeed in despair at the time, and that the Dougwell Family was hiding something. He even had a fight with his boss, Horatio, about it.
"But... ever since I was promoted to [The Doom-Bringer], my luck has been terrible, no! It's gotten even worse. I always seem to get inexplicably afflicted with some kind of bad luck... like this time, I just stumbled upon the Dougwell Family's murder scene by sheer accident..."
Fortunately, this misfortune seemed to befall him alone; his enemies and his friends shared in it as well.
For example, although the fall he just took hurt a lot, it at least saved him from being burned to death.
"Why would they kill the heir so inexplicably, and then throw him a banquet in the process? Was it a requirement of some evil ritual?"
Sean had some guesses about this.
Anyway, since joining the Bureau 11, he's seen all sorts of strange and unusual cases.
To satisfy Demon, Evil God, or unknown beings, some fanatics perform rituals that are utterly bizarre.
Some are extremely bloody and evil, while others are full of absurdity.
"Of course... what I need right now is to take care of these two guys!"
Sean tilted his head, and a small black arrow grazed his shoulder.
He ran into an alley, turned around, and saw Paul and William chasing after him.
The two men had shed their cumbersome formal attire and changed into black bodysuits, carrying daggers, hidden darts, and other weapons—seemingly mindful of the potential repercussions, they did not use firearms.
"You are going against the Federation!"
Sean was only halfway through his shout when he realized that the two people opposite him didn't care at all and pounced on him directly.
'Physics-related professionals?'
He assessed the other person's profession, a dark luster appearing on his hands, before suddenly flicking them.
A streak of black flame flew towards the assassin who had used a hidden dart.
--The Corrosive Fire!
The opponent possesses ranged attack capabilities, making them significantly more lethal!
Just as he was casting his spell, another man wielding a dagger rushed within two meters, the dagger coiling around him like a venomous snake.
Sean dodged to the side, then suddenly grabbed the other man's arm holding the dagger with both hands and threw him over his shoulder.
Bang!
A heavy thud was heard as the burly man fell to the ground, the dagger in his hand flying far away.
"I've also studied martial arts... Holy crap!"
Sean was initially pleased with himself, but suddenly his expression changed drastically.
Because the guy he threw to the ground was pulling a revolver from his waist with a gloomy expression!
"The Paralysis Hand!"
He lunged forward, his Black Light hands grabbing the other man's arm.
"It's over..."
Although he had subdued the burly man, cold sweat immediately streamed down Sean's forehead.
The Paralysis Hand is a minor spell; you must maintain contact to paralyze the opponent.
This person struggled violently; their rank appeared to be equal to his!
Suppressing just one person consumes all my energy, leaving me unable to manage another.
Once the guy with the hidden blade comes to his senses, a single shot from a distance will eliminate Sean's chances of escape.
Puff!
Behind me came the sound of a blade piercing a body, a heavy object falling to the ground, and a muffled groan before death.
That sound made Sean tremble involuntarily.
"Haven't you gotten it sorted out yet?"
A voice came from inside.
He turned his head and saw the Dougwell Family pursuer lying on the ground with a bleeding wound on his back.
A figure was silently watching him; it was of medium build and its face was indistinct.
"Who are you?"
Sean had just opened his mouth when he saw a flash of cold light.
An ordinary dagger pierced the body of the person he was holding down, striking a vital spot and killing him instantly.
'Deliberately concealing their identity, their movements were clean and efficient; they couldn't possibly be reinforcements from the bureau, could they? Or Killer Assassin?'
Sean stood up, staring at the shadowy figure with suspicion. "Who are you? Why are you helping me?"
The figure bowed slightly, then slowly disappeared, like an actor taking their final bow, waving goodbye without leaving a trace, leaving Sean standing there dumbfounded.
On a rooftop not far away, Sulu gazed at the Attribute Panel and nodded slightly. "Very good... It seems the Shadow Clone's combat power is worth looking forward to, at least it's very convenient for assassination... and you also get experience. As for Sean, is he already a second-tier [Doom-Bringer]?"
This is the professional path of the Black Death Society. It seems that the Bureau 11 seized a lot of things when they destroyed the opponent's branch.
I just don't know why Sean chose this path.
Perhaps this is related to the abnormality in his body?
