Background

The Uchiha were one of Konoha's founding clans, joining the Senju under Madara Uchiha to establish the village. Madara remained a central symbol of the clan's military legacy long after his disappearance. 350

Before the clan's political shift, the Uchiha were isolated within Konoha and widely distrusted. During the Nine-Tails Incident, they were suspected by the village leadership and barred from intervening despite the Sharingan's ability to suppress Tailed Beasts; their failure to act was consequently misread as indifference. 5 Their compound was relocated to the village outskirts, while the clan faced hostility from civilians, friction with other clans, and restrictive treatment from Konoha's leadership. 194

The clan's standing began to change after Roy joined the Military Police Force. His public defense of civilians, fairer patrol conduct, and pursuit of infiltrators gradually improved grassroots trust in the Uchiha. 5 15 16 Shisui's proposal to escort the Daimyo, accepted by Fugaku despite hardline opposition, became a deliberate effort to gain prestige and expose threats against the clan. 8

History

Rebuilding public trust

The Uchiha defended Konoha during an invasion in which Fugaku manifested Susanoo. Although the clan compound was destroyed, the defense earned public gratitude and helped secure their return to the compound. 21 22

The clan expanded its patrols and uncovered hostile agents operating inside Konoha. These actions won praise but also provoked concern among the village leadership and other clans, who feared the Uchiha's growing influence. 16

During the Daimyo escort mission, Fugaku saved the Daimyo from an ambush with Roy's support. The Daimyo subsequently chose to stay at the Uchiha Compound and offered clan members positions as personal guards. 34 35

Internal reform and conflict

Fugaku adopted Roy's intensive training methods for Uchiha ninja at chunin rank and above. Resistance from veteran clansmen was overcome after Roy defeated Kansan and later the hardline faction in direct combat. 31 32 60 61

The clan repeatedly faced accusations of plotting against Konoha, particularly following attacks on other clans. Fugaku and Shisui presented evidence of framing, while Roy emphasized that the Uchiha acted as Konoha ninja before clan members. 56

When Shang Ping, Roy's young disciple, was kidnapped, the Uchiha mobilized toward the Hokage Building for an explanation. Civilian support and the clan's changed reputation prevented the incident from becoming an immediate confrontation with the rest of Konoha. 111 112 113

Growth into a major force

Roy's efforts helped multiple clansmen awaken Mangekyō Sharingan. Fugaku trained six new users in Ocular Power Conversion and Susanoo manifestation, greatly increasing the clan's high-level combat strength. 215

By the time of later operations, the clan possessed ten pairs of Mangekyō Sharingan. The elders ultimately accepted Roy's view that the Uchiha should prioritize strength and self-reliance over pursuing the Hokage position. 268

Madara Uchiha later reappeared and questioned why the clan had not seized Konoha. Izumi explained that the Uchiha's present status came not solely from power, but from their gradual change in conduct and relationship with the village. 350 352

Sharingan

The Sharingan is the clan's defining dōjutsu. It grants enhanced perception and makes ordinary genjutsu ineffective against many Uchiha opponents. 2
