History

Chaldea’s Demi-Servant experiments severely damaged Mash’s body and accelerated her aging. At some point before Dr. Roman’s later examination, her health was restored; he finds no remaining illness or hidden danger, but does not know who helped her 174.

While away from Chaldea, Mash meets Arthur, who alters her Spirit Origin and presses her to live up to Galahad’s name. She initially resents being treated as someone else and longs for Chaldea. By their farewell, she credits the journey with improving her abilities and resolves not to tarnish Galahad’s name 92 93 108.

Back with Chaldea, Mash serves as Fujimaru Ritsuka’s frontline fighter. During the Hundred Years’ War Singularity, she reveals her allegiance to Arthur by placing her sword at Ritsuka’s neck after Ritsuka has exhausted her Command Spells. She remains distressed at the prospect of fighting Chaldea, and Arthur assures her he intends to help it rather than destroy it 196 197.

Mash and Ritsuka eventually reconcile. Mash accompanies Arthur and Ritsuka on later missions, including their return to Chaldea and the Roman Singularity. When Arthur leaves them to pursue his own mission in the Age of Gods, Mash accepts that she and Ritsuka must continue the fight to save the world 204 210 279.

Appearance

Mash’s knightly appearance can be misleading: Dr. Roman sees a swordswoman in frost-silver armor wielding two longswords, despite her Shielder class 174.

  • Her armor shares a matching design with Arthur’s 174.
  • She also uses a Red-Hilted Sword and, in other encounters, a shield 99 109.
  • “Little Eggplant” is a nickname used for her by Ritsuka and others 190 210.

Personality

Mash begins as shy and generally submissive in Dr. Roman’s recollection. Her time with Arthur makes her markedly more assertive: she challenges Ritsuka’s reckless plans, acts decisively in combat, and withholds parts of her experience from the doctor 174 190 191.

Her loyalty to Arthur is strong, but does not erase her attachment to Chaldea or Ritsuka. Choosing Arthur leaves her troubled by the possibility of further conflict between them. She later tells Ritsuka that she loves Arthur without wanting to compete for his attention 197 217.

Abilities & Skills

Shield Defense

  • Uses her shield to protect the Chaldea squad against a Steam Mech assault 192.
  • Can endure attacks from Imperial demon-breaking ammunition, though its magic-depleting effect strains her 193.

Swordsmanship and Light Cannon

  • Exchanges blows with the black Knight King using her Red-Hilted Sword and fires a light cannon during the fight 109.
  • Detects a retreating punitive force, fires on it, and charges; the blast destroys the lower half of deon’s body 190.
  • Fires a sword-based blast at Camilla during Chaldea’s attempted retreat 194.

Teleportation Magic

  • Reveals to Ritsuka that she can use teleportation magic 204.

Relationships

  • Artorius Pendragon (Arthur) — Alters her Spirit Origin and becomes her mentor and chosen ruler. Mash initially objects to his treatment of her, but later declares her love and loyalty to him 92 108 196 217.
  • Fujimaru Ritsuka (Gudako) — Her Chaldea Master and “Senpai.” Mash restrains her during the Empire’s victory, causing a painful rift; they later reconcile and continue working together 196 197 204 279.
  • Galahad — The source of Mash’s spiritual foundation and Arthur’s close friend. Mash rejects being called Galahad, then resolves to be worthy of his name 92 108.
  • Dr. Romani Archaman — Chaldea’s doctor, who worries about her unexplained recovery and changed demeanor 174.
  • Fou — A familiar companion whom Mash speaks to while homesick and who appears beside her after Chaldea’s capture 93 197.
