The Mouse and the Witch
Suddenly, their wardrobes were empty, and the playful noises of the young wizards could no longer be heard in the dormitory.
But unlike when school started, there were now some posters on the dormitory walls that hadn't been taken away. The Quidditch players on them were, as usual, repeatedly making throwing motions, then cheering and celebrating, as if they knew their owners would be back soon.
The notice was sent to each student, warning them not to use magic during the holiday.
Since Hagrid was still in St Mungo's, Professor McGonagall temporarily took charge of leading them onto the fleet of boats that would cross the lake.
On the Hogwarts Express, Kyle declined the Weasley brothers' invitation to join them in the box to discuss the future (how to earn Galleon next term) and the direction of the Wizarding World (how to sell their products outside of Hogwarts).
The huge sum of one hundred Galleon had driven the Weasley brothers a little mad. In the last few days of the term, they didn't even bother looking for clues about the Marauder's Map anymore, and instead focused on figuring out how to make even more money.
Hopefully, they'll come up with some good ideas.
Kyle walked along the train and pushed open the door to a compartment at the very end.
There was only one person inside.
Kanna curled up in her seat, staring blankly at the neat wheat field outside the window.
Kyle sat down opposite her naturally. "Are you still upset about what happened to Pochi?"
"Her name isn't Pochi."
After a long silence, Kanna finally spoke softly, "Her name is Ratri, she's kind of my great-aunt."
Kanna seemed to want to confide in someone, and she talked a lot.
The countryside outside the train window became increasingly lush and tidy. As the train passed through one Muggle town after another, Kyle gradually understood what had happened.
This is a pretty cliché story.
Eleven years ago, Kanna's father inadvertently uttered Voldemort's name while drunk and was killed by Death Eaters arrived at the scene.
Fortunately, Kanna and her mother were not home at the time, which saved them from disaster.
Then, shortly before the start of the school year last year, Kanna's mother also passed away in an accident, and since then, Kanna has been the only one left in the Prince family.
Although the Prince family is not as famous as the Sacred Twenty-Eight, it is still a long-standing Pure-blood family, and this incident has naturally attracted a lot of attention.
Pochi... Ratri appeared at this time.
But when she arrived, she discovered that Kanna's family's previous businesses had long been divided up by the other Pure-blood.
So she set her sights on Gringotts, intending to use her Animagus to steal the key.
Once she gets the key and finds a way to get rid of Kanna, she can use her status as a distant relative of Prince to legitimately take what's inside.
She actually found it later, but Pure-blood families always have some hidden treasures. The box containing the key to the Prince family's vault is like that; only a direct descendant can open it.
The problem is that she doesn't know the Imperius Curse, and she doesn't dare to find anyone to cooperate with.
Just as she was worrying about what to do, the devastated Kanna unexpectedly fell in love with the mouse that "had always been with her at home" and brought it to Hogwarts as a pet.
The rest is history. She began to do everything she could to steal Kanna's money, hoping to get her out of Hogwarts as soon as possible and get the key to Gringotts.
Her operation was originally very successful, and if nothing unexpected happened, Kanna would go home to get the money during the Christmas holidays. But unexpectedly, Kyle appeared out of nowhere and forcibly extended Kanna's life.
According to Kanna, after being given Veritaserum, Ratri continued to berate the "meddlesome boy."
Kyle stroked his chin, pondered for a moment, and said, "So, in a way, I saved your life?"
"That's true." Kanna nodded.
After finally speaking out about what she had been keeping to herself, she felt much better.
"Shouldn't you thank me properly?"
Kyle laughed and said, "Besides, after you lost the rats, I lost a huge order for tonics."
"Then I'll keep buying."
Kanna took out a Mokeskin Pouch and placed it on the table. "Same as before, one bottle per month, until these are all used up."
The bags were full of Galleon.
In addition to the original 100 Galleon, the ones that were stolen before are also included, bringing the total to approximately 150.
"And what about your rats?"
"I can go to Diagon Alley and buy another one."
"Are you sure... you still want to raise mice?" Kyle looked at her suspiciously.
"Mind your own business!" Kanna seemed to recall the scene in the Forbidden Forest, and her expression suddenly turned somewhat unpleasant. "Do you want it or not? If you say another word, I won't buy it!"
"Yes, a fool wouldn't take Galleon if it were offered to him on a silver platter!"
Kyle quickly stuffed the bag on the table into his pocket.
"By the way, are there many people like Bo... that rat, eyeing your family's treasure?"
Kanna turned her head to the side and didn't say anything.
Kyle knew the answer just by looking at her.
Come to think of it, the Wizarding World is only so big, and every Pure-blood families must have quite a few distant relatives they have no real connection with.
Kanna was unhappy after the exam, probably because she didn't want to go back and face those people.
"Alright, I won't give you the tonic." Kyle tapped his fingers on the table, saying thoughtfully, "But since I'm paid to do this, how about I help you solve these problems?"
"What do you mean?" Kanna tilted her head, a little confused.
"That means you're leaving this to me," Kyle said calmly. "I guarantee no one will bother you during the summer."
"Really..." Kanna looked at Kyle suspiciously, clearly not believing him.
"Actually, you don't need to comfort me; I can handle them."
"Just wait and see, you definitely won't be disappointed."
Kyle didn't explain, but instead took out a large pile of snacks and put them on the table.
He was a little hungry.
There's nothing else to eat on the train, so if you haven't brought your own food, you can only eat some snacks to tide you over.
At that moment, Cedric and Cho suddenly pushed open the door to the private room.
"Kanna, I've been looking for you."
Qiu sat down next to Kanna and asked with concern, "How are you? Are you feeling any better?"
"Much better," Kanna replied with a smile.
In fact, they had come here once before, but they just didn't come in.
"Kyle, what are your plans for summer vacation?"
Cedric opened a bag of Chocolate Frog and said, "My dad is taking me to France, we can go together."
France?
Kyle thought about it and realized it was a good place, plus he was quite curious about Beauxbatons Academy of Magic.
It's just a bit too far.
After thinking it over carefully, Kyle shook his head. "Next time, Cedric. I have other plans for the summer."
"That's a pity," Cedric said, somewhat disappointed. "I'll bring you a present."
