The Trunk and the Niffler
In the following days, Kyle stopped spending all his time looking for Wampus Cat. Instead, at Tina's request, he set aside his mornings to bake cookies or bread rolls with her.
However, he sometimes helps Newt take care of the other Fantastic Beasts in the box.
Then, in the afternoon, I will go to the Wampus Cat to learn.
However, progress remained slow, with no advancements for a long time, always seeming to fall just short.
Another week passed just like that.
A week later, when Kyle returned to the lakeside clearing, he was surprised to find that Naddali the Wampus Cat was not waiting there as before.
"Am I too early?" Kyle murmured.
"No, your training is over."
Just then, Tina and Newt walked over together, with the Wampus Cat following beside them.
"In fact, Naddali had been unable to see what you were thinking for days," Newt explained. "His subsequent attack on you was entirely instinctive."
Kyle frowned and said, "Instinct?"
"Yes," Newt said. "If you don't believe me, then take a little test."
He took two apples, one large and one small, from the iron bucket he was carrying and said to Kyle and the Wampus Cat named Naddali, "Come on, choose one, both of you."
The Wampus Cat glanced at Kyle, then they both pointed to the larger apple.
Kyle turned his head in confusion.
Newt's face suddenly flushed.
"Ahem, it's just a coincidence." With that, he dumped an entire bucket of apples onto the ground. "Well then, let's choose again."
The Wampus Cat glanced at Kyle again, but this time, they each pointed to a different apple.
Try again, and the result is the same.
Newt visibly relaxed. He took out his wand and put the apples back into the bucket, intending to deliver them to the Demiguise later.
"Now you believe me, right?"
"Yes, I believe you," Kyle nodded.
If the Wampus Cat could see his thoughts, this situation certainly wouldn't have occurred.
Kyle followed them back to the room and asked suspiciously, "Did you already find out?"
"About a week ago," Tina said. "Are you wondering why I'm only telling you now?"
Kyle nodded.
"I was just checking to make sure, but it seems you've got it pretty good. Also..."
Tina couldn't help but laugh and said, "You've always performed exceptionally well, so it's quite amusing to see you stumble once in a while."
"Forehead..."
Kyle's lips twitched, and he looked at Tina, who was ninety years old this year, with a hint of helplessness.
What kind of twisted sense of humor is this?
But in any case, learning the Occlumency is ultimately a good thing.
Kyle then stayed there for three more days, not leaving until a week before school started.
Newt didn't write to Chris; instead, he personally took Kyle home and gave Kyle a box before leaving.
"Your birthday present."
Newt said, "It was prepared beforehand, but you were busy learning Occlumency, so I can only deliver it now. Hopefully, it's not too late."
Kyle accepted it with some excitement.
The box looked a size smaller Newt's, but it was new and the style was currently popular, so it was obviously made recently.
"The space inside isn't very big, but it should be enough for you," Newt said with a smile. "Use it well... and don't put just any Fantastic Beasts in there. I don't want to hear that you've been expelled from Hogwarts one day."
As everyone knows, Newt is a famous Hogwarts dropout... although he was expelled for taking the blame for someone else.
After Newt left, Kyle immediately turned around and went home.
Chris and Diana were both absent, leaving the living room feeling empty.
Kyle didn't linger. He went straight upstairs to his room, then eagerly put the box on the floor, opened it, and jumped inside.
Beneath the box was a small room, but it was completely empty except for a simple shelf.
Outside the room was a wide lawn, roughly the size of two Quidditch Pitch, with a small lake in the middle.
Compared to Newt's place, this is indeed a tiny bit smaller, but it's enough for Kyle.
He's only twelve years old and still attending Hogwarts; even if he had that much space, he wouldn't have anywhere to use it.
Kyle walked around the grass, making plans in his mind as he went through each place.
"This place is great... Once I learn the Weather Charm, I can build a nest for the Mooncalf by piling up a few rocks, and I can also raise Devil's Snare nearby."
"This place is also good, it's close to the water source, we can move the Biting Cabbage here later."
"As for common plants like Dittany, we don't need to worry about them. Just find a spot near the Mooncalf."
"And those trees not far away, the Bowtruckle will definitely love them there."
As he walked, Kyle soon arrived at the lake in the middle of the meadow. Looking at the shimmering water, he subconsciously took a small step back.
But the next second, Kyle realized... What was he afraid of? There were no Wampus Cat here.
The lake was crystal clear; you could see right to the bottom, and several lionfish were swimming leisurely inside.
Just as Kyle was about to go explore other places, he suddenly felt something tugging at his pockets.
Kyle looked down, and a creature the size of a palm suddenly appeared before him.
The creature had some black fur, a small, flat mouth like a duck's bill, but overall it looked like a mole.
"Niffler...?" Kyle exclaimed in surprise.
I was surprised to find a free gift inside the box.
This Niffler must have been born very recently; it's even smaller than Kyle's hand.
At that moment, it was clinging to the robe, its two little hands struggling to hold a Galleon, trying to stuff it into its pocket.
Kyle didn't stop him, just watched quietly until the Niffler was about to completely stuff the Galleon into its pocket, then he reached out and casually took the Galleon out again.
Incidentally, he also picked up the Niffler.
The little guy clung tightly to the Galleon, Kyle shook it several times, but couldn't shake it off.
"How did you get here?" Kyle asked curiously.
If Newt wanted to give him the Niffler, he would have done so in person, not hidden it in a box. So this little guy must have sneaked over.
Perhaps because it was still too young, Niffler tilted its head, as if it hadn't understood what Kyle had said, and continued to hold Galleon, stuffing it into its pocket with a pull-up-like, difficult motion.
