Time-Turner Application Failed
After Lockhart finished speaking, he walked away, seemingly heading in the direction of Harry.
As soon as he left, Professor McGonagall looked at Kyle.
"Don't mess with that tree. If you want to live a good life, stay away from it. And..."
She pursed her lips and continued, "You have a lot of courses to study this year, so I suggest you read some very useful books, such as... those related to Ancient Runes."
"Okay, Professor," Kyle said.
In fact, he hadn't even read a single page of "Wandering with Werewolves," and he had just mentioned it casually. He didn't expect Lockhart not only not to refute him, but also to give him ten points.
This was truly an unexpected bonus.
Professor McGonagall nodded.
"Now let's talk about you."
Sprout said, "I'm sorry, Kyle, your request for the Time-Turner was unsuccessful, so you may have to reselect your class schedule."
"It didn't work?" Kyle paused, "But Percy had already..."
"This time is different."
Professor Sprout shook his head and said, "All Time-Turner are kept in the Department of Mysteries at the Ministry of Magic, but that place is currently under tight security, and letters can't be sent in at all."
"Just yesterday, we also tried to get Professor Dumbledore to intervene..." Professor McGonagall said, "But he also failed."
"Even Headmaster Dumbledore can't get in?" Kyle asked in surprise.
"No, he went to the Department of Mysteries." Professor McGonagall gave Kyle a meaningful look. "But someone rejected the application, saying that all the Time-Turner were in use and there weren't any extras available for the young wizards."
"Uh... no extras?" Kyle was a little confused.
"Yes, so you should choose a different course."
Professor Sprout handed Kyle a new timetable, slightly covered in dirt, saying, "Hurry up, don't be late for class."
Kyle held the timetable, thought for a moment, and then said, "Professor, I still want to choose all of them."
"But Time-Turner ..." Professor Sprout frowned.
"It's alright," Kyle quickly said. "I want a spot to take the exam, so if you agree, I only need to take one of the courses if there's a scheduling conflict."
"Ah?"
Professor Sprout had been at Hogwarts for decades, and this was the first time he had ever heard such an outrageous request.
She glanced to the side instinctively and noticed that Professor McGonagall was also frowning.
The two quickly discussed it...
"Are you sure, Kyle?"
Professor McGonagall said seriously, "You have to understand, ten grades of all 'O's' are different from twelve grades of ten 'O's."
"I know," Kyle nodded.
"Alright then," Professor McGonagall said. "If you insist, I will speak with the other professors, and you can choose the courses you need to take according to your own wishes."
"But..." Professor McGonagall cautioned, "This only applies to six elective courses."
"Of course..." Kyle smiled, "I won't miss a single Transfiguration Class or Herbology Class."
Professor McGonagall rarely showed a smile.
Professor Sprout had also forgotten the unpleasantness Lockhart had caused earlier, and with a smile, gave Kyle a branch of the Whomping Willow.
While the branches of the Whomping Willow are not as important as its roots, they are still a very rare Potions ingredient and are expensive.
The piece of paper Professor Sprout gave us could be exchanged for at least twenty Galleon at Diagon Alley.
Moreover, Hogwarts is the only Whomping Willow in the entire British Wizarding World. If Harry and Ron were to accidentally injure it, the loss would be enormous.
After discussing the course selection, the two professors left separately.
This time, Kyle didn't stay at the castle with Professor McGonagall, but instead headed towards the Forbidden Forest not far away.
Although we didn't get the Time-Turner, this result is still pretty good.
Like now... he can choose to go to Care of Magical Creatures, or he can go to learn Arithmancy... or he can do neither.
The professors wouldn't see anything wrong with it; he could easily use that time to do other things.
Of course, getting Professor McGonagall to agree to this request wasn't easy; in fact, it was arguably even more difficult than applying for Time-Turner.
Besides the fact that the Department of Mysteries just happened to reject the application, Kyle's perfect grades from the previous two years also played a significant role.
Otherwise... skipping class? Don't even think about it!
I definitely have to attend the first class.
Kyle crossed the grounds and headed toward the Forbidden Forest, where he saw Lockhart talking to Harry.
Because of the distance, Kyle couldn't hear what the two were saying, but judging from Harry's expression, he probably didn't really want to chat with Lockhart.
Professor Kettleburn's Care of Magical Creatures is on the other side of the Forbidden Forest, closer to the Quidditch Pitch.
He cleared out a large open space there specifically for students to use for classes.
Kanna also chose this course, and she was already waiting for Kyle when Kyle arrived.
"What does Professor Sprout want with you?" she asked. "Does he need any help?"
"No need, there was just a problem with my class schedule, but it's been resolved."
Kyle didn't hide anything and told her directly about his failed application for the Time-Turner, including the solution he later found.
Although Professor McGonagall asked him to keep it a secret, what secrets could Hogwarts possibly have...? That's common sense.
"You're planning to take twelve exams?" Kanna, somewhat surprised. "You already have the Order of Merlin, do you still need those other certificates?"
"I've got nothing better to do anyway, and it's not that hard, so I'll just treat it as a fun exam," Kyle said matter-of-factly. "The main thing is that I can skip class openly and legitimately, isn't that great?"
"So, being able to skip class is the real point, right?" Kanna stared at him.
Kyle shrugged, offering no comment.
Really!
Kanna rolled her eyes; she didn't need to ask any more questions.
Just as the two were talking, Professor Kettleburn also came out of the Forbidden Forest.
He looked injured again, covered in dirt and grime. His prosthetic leg was gone, replaced by an ordinary wooden stick, probably a substitute he'd picked up from the Forbidden Forest.
This also caused him to walk with a limp.
Many students who met the professor for the first time were terrified.
Is Care of Magical Creatures really that dangerous?
Some people started to have second thoughts, wondering if it was too late to change classes.
Professor Kettleburn remained unperturbed by the various expressions on the young wizards' faces.
This happens every year; he's used to it.
Moreover, ever since he was hit by the Unicorn, he has been thinking about retiring, and this year will probably be his last year at Hogwarts.
Professor Kettleburn found Kyle in the crowd and nodded with satisfaction.
"For our first lesson, we'll learn about the Bowtruckle!"
Professor Kettleburn opened the pocket on his clothes, and five or six creatures that looked like plant sprouts emerged from it.
Does anyone know about it?
Kyle raised his hand:
"The Bowtruckle is a gentle and Fantastic Beasts that typically lives in pine trees or other tall trees. However, it will attack anyone who tries to damage those trees."
Unless you're carrying their favorite ground beetle.
"Absolutely correct, Hufflepuff gets ten points!"
Kettleburn chuckled and said, "The bumpkins are in the box over there. Everyone take a small bag, then move closer together..."
