Two Galleons, Not Making Any Money At All
While Harry was eating chocolate, Lupin took the letter and left the box to find the driver.
He needed to tell the school what had happened on the train, and luckily there was an owl there for emergencies near the driver.
But that was when he was in school, and I don't know if it's still the same now.
After Lupin left, Ron still looked at Harry with some concern. "Are you really alright?"
"I feel much better."
Harry took another bite of chocolate, wiping the cold sweat and rain from his face, and said, "But I don't understand... what just happened."
"That's what we're curious about too," Fred said.
While the sensations from Dementor are unpleasant, they shouldn't be enough to knock someone unconscious. And of all the hundreds of students on the train, Harry seems to be the only one experiencing this.
Even Ron is fine.
"Back then, when that Dementor... when it looked at you... you suddenly started acting strangely."
"I thought you were under a curse." Ron recalled the scene, still looking somewhat frightened. "You seemed to freeze, fell off your seat, and started convulsing..."
Then he and Hermione recounted the events in detail, including how Harry fainted and how Professor Lupin eventually drove away the Dementor.
"It was a flash of silver," Hermione said. "I couldn't see what it was, but the Dementor seemed very frightened."
"Silver light?" George whispered, "That must be the Patronus Charm."
"I didn't expect him to know this too." Fred seemed somewhat surprised. "It seems our Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts this year has some skill."
"Don't get too excited," Cedric said from the side. "He could also be the Professor of Care of Magical Creatures ... Remember? Professor Kettleburn is retiring this year."
"Damn it, how could I forget that?" Fred scratched his head. "Are we going to have to take reading classes all semester again? I've really had enough."
Cedric shrugged. Although he felt the same way, the Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts had always been disappointing.
Having learned from the experiences of the past two years, he wouldn't be surprised if another incompetent professor came this year...
"The Patronus Charm?" Hermione suddenly realized the key point.
"Yes," Fred explained, "Kyle just used this spell to fend off the Dementor. Look at us, aren't we much better?"
Only after he said that did Hermione realize that it was indeed true.
Ron and Neville... and even those who were spying outside, all looked rather pale, and she was probably about the same.
But Kyle and the others looked perfectly normal, just like usual, even the youngest Ginny, looked the same.
"Patronus Charm?" Hermione muttered to herself, silently memorizing the spell.
Just then, Lupin returned, smiling at everyone, and said, "I just asked the driver, and we'll be at Hogwarts in thirty minutes."
This was really great news for Harry, who couldn't wait to get back to his warm and cozy castle.
Most importantly, there are professors there, and Dumbledore... Dementor definitely wouldn't dare go in.
Harry was still a little confused as to why he was the only one who fainted, while everyone else was fine.
He asked Professor Lupin, but the professor just shook his head and comforted him.
"Dementor force us to recall our worst past experiences; our pain becomes their power, perhaps because your experiences are different from others, which piques their interest."
He said casually, "And you don't need to worry too much, because I've noticed that the Dementor behave completely differently here than in the other boxes."
Unable to control its hunger, it actively absorbed the surrounding emotions... This ability, unique to Dementor, is so potent that even adult wizards cannot resist it.
"You're only thirteen; it's normal for you to faint."
Harry still felt that his explanation was somewhat far-fetched.
"But Ron and Hermione didn't faint," he whispered. "Neville did too."
Seeing Harry's dejected look, Ron wanted to comfort him, but didn't know what to say.
Just as he was racking his brains, he suddenly turned his head and saw something flash on Hermione's clothes.
Ron's eyes lit up, and he quickly said, "Is it possible that we're wearing badges?"
He pointed to an identical badge below his collar and said, "Remember? Kyle gave this to us before. It's made of Dragon scales."
A creature as powerful as Dragon, even Dementor would be afraid of it.
"How could that be?" Hermione said. "Even if Dementor are afraid of Dragon, they wouldn't be afraid of a single scale."
"It's also possible... um... that it has some restraining effect."
To be honest, even Ron himself thought this reason was a bit far-fetched, but the problem was that he couldn't think of a better one right now, so he could only bite the bullet and continue:
"We were wearing our badges and were fine, only Harry, who was the first to change into his robes, fainted."
"Neville doesn't have a badge either," Hermione said, frowning.
In the corner, Neville heard his name called and shakily raised his head.
He was in even worse shape Harry; even after eating a large piece of chocolate, he was still trembling uncontrollably.
Somehow, after combining Professor Lupin's and Ron's words, Harry immediately felt much better.
Although thinking this way was somewhat self-deceptive, he preferred to believe that the Dragon Badge was the one that had worked, rather than admitting that he was weak and cowardly.
Inside the private room, there was another person who believed it as well.
"What Dragon Badge...?"
Neville stood up, looking at Kyle hopefully. "Is there any more? I can buy some."
He really didn't want to experience that bone-chilling cold again.
"Yes... there is..."
Kyle pulled a handful of brightly colored badges from his pocket. "But these shouldn't work on Dementor..."
"I'll buy it!"
Before he could finish speaking, Neville took all the badges from his hand.
"How much."
"Hmm... two Galleon each."
Neville paused, his hand still holding the money. "How much?"
"Two Galleon," Kyle explained. "These are genuine dragon scales, valuable in themselves, and the patterns on them were hand-carved by local Romania. Two Galleon isn't profitable at all."
Neville looked at the six badges in his hand and hesitated.
Twelve Galleon in total... He doesn't have that much money.
Because he was always losing things, Augusta Longbottom usually didn't give him much pocket money.
"Maybe we should just forget about it; it's really not going to make a difference," Kyle advised again.
He has plenty of ways to sell things; there's no need for him to use this method.
The Dementor will be permanently stationed at the castle this year; their usefulness will soon be apparent.
False advertising could lead to product returns and serious negative consequences, potentially destroying the reputation they've built up over three years.
It's not a good deal no matter how you look at it.
But just as Neville hesitated, Lupin unexpectedly spoke up.
"Perhaps it really might have some effect."
This statement seemed to solidify Neville's decision.
He also gave Kyle three badges, and then took six Galleon from the pocket of his robe and handed them to him, saying, "That's all I have, buy three!"
"This..."
Kyle looked at Lupin, not understanding what he had just said.
Faced with Kyle's questioning gaze, Lupin shook his head and, taking advantage of everyone's inattention, walked to his side and whispered, "The most important thing when facing Dementor is courage. Only by not being afraid of them can you remain unaffected."
If Mr. Longbottom firmly believes the badge has the power to ward off Dementor, then it is useful.
I think, as the youngest recipient of the Order of Merlin, you should understand what I mean."
Does believing something is useful actually make it useful?
Kyle was thinking seriously.
This is not hard to understand; many forms of magic are like this. Even when he was learning the Patronus Charm, Newt repeatedly reminded him that to successfully unleash the full Patronus, one must have a sufficiently firm belief.
The same Apparition; once he starts to doubt himself, he will fail.
"You mean..." Kyle asked thoughtfully, "The badge can give him the conviction that he will no longer fear Dementor?"
"You could say that."
Lupin nodded. "But that's only if the Dementor can control their hunger."
He then pointed in Neville's direction and said softly, "However, at least for now, it seems there are no problems."
Kyle also looked up.
Since receiving the badge, Neville has stopped trembling, his pale complexion has regained some color, and he looks much better than before.
"A badge is just a vessel; it can also be a stone, a leaf, or a withered twig... The important thing is that people genuinely believe it is useful!"
Lupin looked at Kyle, his tone suddenly changing, and his expression became strange. "But, isn't selling it for two Galleon a bit too expensive?"
"No, sir," Kyle said with a smile, "You can go to Diagon Alley and ask about the price of Dragon scales. In the Potions, they're clearly priced at one Galleon and fifteen Sickle, and there are no discounts."
Adding in the cost of the design and the Portkey in Romania, two Galleon is already the cost price; I'm not making any profit at all."
Lupin was speechless for a moment.
Indeed, anything related to Dragon is quite expensive. He sighed softly, turned around, and returned to his seat.
Just then, a commotion broke out outside, and as soon as Lupin left, someone entered the private room.
"Sorry, I overheard your conversation... Do you still have any badges like that?"
