Organization
The Family is led by Donquixote Doflamingo and divided into four executive armies. Corazon is the title held by the leader of the Heart Army; Vergo held it before Rosinante 3 68.

History
Minion Island
Doflamingo brokered Captain Barrels’s proposed sale of the Op-Op Fruit to the World Government, but intended to seize the fruit himself. Rosinante, then the Family’s Corazon and a Marine mole, stole it to save Trafalgar Law 1 2 6. Vergo confronted Rosinante over the betrayal, while Drake alerted the Marines that the Family was about to land on Minion Island 3 4.
Doflamingo arrived with his executives and used his strings to control Rosinante and force pirates on the mountain to fight one another. Conrad and Baby-5 escaped into the sea; the arrival of Vice Admiral Tsuru, Zephyr, and Marine forces compelled the Family to retreat 6 7.
Sabaody Archipelago
The Family operated around a human auction on Sabaody and brought the Heart and Diamante armies to the island. Its forces fought Conrad’s group at the amusement park, where Diamante was wounded and briefly captured before Doflamingo pulled him free with his strings 55 62 68 69.
Doflamingo clashed with Conrad and Fujitora, then fled while Diamante held them off. During his escape, the String-String Fruit awakened, allowing him to turn his surroundings into threads. He also seized Saint Garud as a hostage 69 70 71. A subsequent newspaper accused the Family of a Sabaody massacre and of kidnapping a Celestial Dragon; Doflamingo disputed the account 75 77.
Dressrosa and the Heavenly Tribute
The Family planned to seize Dressrosa. Gladius selected strong coliseum fighters for Doflamingo to assess; those who refused to join or failed the assessment faced transformation into toys by Sugar 163 167. Conrad’s group later captured Sugar and Giolla at a Family stronghold 172.
For the Heavenly Tribute heist, Doflamingo gathered intelligence from tribute-paying kingdoms, had Pica remodel a sea route, and ordered explosives planted. He planned to trap the escort fleet and use a Celestial Dragon hostage to force its surrender 168 170. The plan drew opposition from the Marines and a demand from the Charlotte Family for one-fifth of the tribute 170 171.
After the tribute was reported stolen and a Celestial Dragon was killed during the confrontation, the Five Elders designated Doflamingo the fourth Emperor of the Sea. Sengoku argued that the Family had the strength of an Emperor’s pirate crew 174 177. The crew later found its Heavenly Tribute chests empty, and Fujitora captured Doflamingo, intending to use him as a puppet 178.
