Background / History

Madara initially remains underground while monitoring the Shinobi World through Obito. News of Yuji's overwhelming Fire Style and Susanoo draws his attention; he decides Yuji may be useful to his own goals. 33

When Yuji directly confronts his spiritual form, Madara recognizes a shared Uchiha belief in taking power through strength rather than receiving it as charity. He rejects Obito as his successor and invites Yuji to the Land of Grass to inherit his legacy. 80

Madara instead faces Yuji in battle. Though his swordsmanship experience is greater, Yuji's Mangekyō Sharingan continually copies and absorbs his techniques, while Madara's aged body begins to fail despite Ten-Tails assistance. Madara ultimately concedes defeat by throwing Yuji his Uchiha Flame Gunbai. 84 85

Afterward, Madara presents the Eye of the Moon Plan: using the Ten-Tails to cast a worldwide genjutsu and create peace. Yuji rejects the plan as destructive, favoring unification of the Shinobi World under one power. Madara nevertheless transfers his knowledge, including a method to restore Mangekyō vision and information concerning the Rinnegan, to Yuji. 86 87

Orochimaru later revives Madara to challenge Yuji again. Madara regains his living body, Rinnegan, and eventually the Ten-Tails' Six Paths power, but continues to be outmatched by Yuji. 114 117 118 120 121

Personality

Madara is intensely proud, combative, and convinced that strength determines legitimacy. He dismisses schemes as tools for the weak and regards direct contests of power as the proper Uchiha way. 80

His arrogance persists even when he recognizes Yuji's superiority. He is capable of fear and frustration, but ultimately accepts combat from a disadvantage rather than abandoning it. 121

Madara is driven by a genuine desire to end conflict, though he believes peace requires the Eye of the Moon Plan. His disagreement with Yuji is ideological as well as personal: Madara seeks peace through universal genjutsu, while Yuji seeks political unification. 86 87

Abilities & Skills

Dōjutsu

Madara wields the Sharingan, Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, and later the Rinnegan.

  • Can manifest Susanoo even with three-tomoe Sharingan, contradicting the belief that two Mangekyō Sharingan are required. 85
  • Regains the Rinnegan after returning to life through Nagato. 117 118
  • Uses Limbo: Border Jail to launch attacks from difficult-to-detect clones. 118 121

Susanoo

Madara's Susanoo is a central component of his offense and defense.

  • Manifests an azure Complete Body Susanoo after being revived in his prime. 114
  • Previously clashes Susanoo directly with Yuji's stronger four-armed blue Susanoo. 85
  • Uses Susanoo alongside Wood Clones and the Sealing Technique Absorption Seal, though Yuji's fireballs bypass the seal and disperse it. 117

Fire and Wood Release

Madara uses powerful elemental ninjutsu and Wood Release constructs.

  • Fires Fire Style: Majestic Destroyer Flame, though Yuji absorbs it during their first battle. 84
  • Uses Wood Release and Wood Clones to pressure opponents from multiple directions. 85 117
  • His Wood Style is overcome by Yuji's superior Fire Style. 85

Sealing Technique Absorption Seal

Madara creates a circular barrier intended to absorb chakra-based ninjutsu.

  • Has historically absorbed chakra-based techniques with the seal. 117
  • Cannot stop Yuji's slow-moving fireballs, which pass through the barrier and Susanoo armor. 117

Six Paths Power

After becoming the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki, Madara gains Six Paths abilities.

  • Acquires Truth-Seeking Orbs formed from Yin-Yang Release and the five elemental transformations. 120
  • Uses Sage Art: Storm Release Light Fang, though Yuji absorbs and reflects it. 121
  • Launches Truth-Seeking Orbs, Limbo, and Yin Release Lightning Dispatch against Yuji; none can breach Yuji's barrier. 121
  • Believes the Six Paths power should negate Yuji's Fire Release and escape techniques, a judgment proven incorrect. 120 121

Tengai Shinsei

Madara summons a massive meteor shower through his Mangekyō Sharingan and Rinnegan.

  • Forces other combatants into cover beneath an Iron Sand wall. 116
  • Is countered when Yuji multiplies a fireball and destroys every meteor. 116

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Uchiha Flame Gunbai — Used to reflect Yuji's Fire Style: Majestic Destroyer Flame; later surrendered to Yuji after Madara's defeat. 85
  • Crimson armor — Worn during his first battle with Yuji. 84

Relationships

  • Uchiha Yuji — Initially viewed as Madara's ideal successor due to their shared Uchiha will; becomes his rival, victor, and later “Clan Head.” Madara passes knowledge to him despite Yuji rejecting the Eye of the Moon Plan. 80 85 87 122
  • Uchiha Obito — Madara rejects Obito as his successor after meeting Yuji. 80
  • Black Zetsu — Believed by Madara to be his will; Yuji later exposes Black Zetsu's true identity and deception. 87 88 122
  • Orochimaru — Cooperates with him against Yuji; Orochimaru revives Madara and helps him acquire Hashirama's chakra and the Ten-Tails. 114 118 120
  • Senju Hashirama — Madara absorbs Hashirama's chakra to augment himself; he remains disdainful of Hashirama's philosophy. 80 118
  • Nagato — Madara uses Nagato's body as the vessel for his return to life and regains his Rinnegan through this process. 117 118
